With the Bengal Tiger, a dream animal for many to see in theHunter: Call of The Wild bringing the true BIG CAT behavior to the game, it is time to talk about the King of those Big cats ... The African Lion on Vurhonga Savanna.

Lions in real life, just like tigers, are apex predators and are naturally inclined to hunt ... and to kill. In many cases, it happens that they perceive humans as potential prey, especially if they are hungry or if the human is behaving in a way that triggers their hunting instincts. But unfortunately in the game, they act like a roe deer running away from a .22 shot.
The true big cat behavior already in the game with Bengal Tigers, we believe that it should finally be added to African Lions as well. This will boost the popularity of our current one and only African map in the game by a ton, and will encourage us to always want to go back there and hunt with the thrill in our hearts while we are waiting for a second African map to come to the game.

Expansive Worlds, please consider this COTW

P.S. We have already seen a similar thing happen in the game once. American Alligators finally got in their true nature in the game with the introduction of Saltwater Crocodiles on Australia ... so we know this is absolutely possible ✌

As of June 1st, we don't have the full list of updates coming with the new Sundarpatan map yet. If this is already implemented, I will gladly say Thank you to the developers, and will remove the post 🦁

Lets see how the tigers behave on the new map first. EW said they are keen for our feedback too.
For me, lions regularly attack and are lethal if I don't manage to avoid them so I'm happy with them as they are. The Cape Buffalo are also prone to attack so I think there is enough aggression on Vurhonga to keep it enjoyable. If tigers are extra aggressive but there are only a few of them on the map then that'll probably make sense for them. It'll be a different and unique hunt. I would prefer if each feline species had their own behaviours to keep it interesting.

For me, and for many more people I heard from, Lions always flee when they spot us coming, and never once charge ... only do it if you get to 20 yards to them and shoot them which is very predictive behavior animation that can get boring too quick ... and with Tigers bringing the unpredictability to the game, it would be cool to see that with Lions too

#

Not knowing when the Lion will charge or flee will in fact make Vurhonga better and bring back the thrill of a Lion hunt ... "Lion hunt" even sounds scary when you say it out loud

We really need better pride/coalition mechanics in this game.

The lion hunt used to be scary for me, got taken out a few times, but now it's just fleeing cats that run into you and knock you out on accident. We definitely need better mechanics on them and the bears.

I approve of this message.

Also lions need a bit of a remodel, someone had a TruMane suggestion

Assuming the tiger system works as intended, I think a hybrid between the tiger system and the current lion system would probably be best. Use the more-defined home ranges the tigers are getting but applied to prides. Keep most of the prides at their current aggression, but have a random few of the home ranges belong to more aggressive solitary lions/small groups that stalk like the tigers.

I for one would like to fear the lions while hunting them

People always question why they are in 9, make them live up to their class.

What this game really needs is a difficulty or aggression slider/setting. If you make the map too aggressive it will put the majority of people off, especially new players. There needs to be an overall balance. An aggression slider would cater to those who want that extra challenge and thrill.

I know that this post is about Lions and I upvoted I like this but if I'm going to be honest I don't just want Tigers and Lions to have a behavioural change I want all species to have more realistic and interesting behaviour

For those who want to feel an increased level of fear while hunting ... EW could change the penalty for being hit by an aggressive animal. Whether it is being run over by a Buff or mauled by a lion or a pack of wolves.

The current death or incapacitation penalty needs to be changed. I propose a loss of levels based on the animal and the severity of the attack. Which would also reduce some skills until those progression levels could be recovered …..

They could also choose to make this difficulty setting optional for those that would rather not participate in the more severe penalty.

In addition this could also give purpose to carrying med kits that would mitigate the severity of the penalty so you wouldn't loose as many levels when you do get hit ....

Hello Zareh B.G.,

Thank you for your suggestion regarding the behavior of African lions in theHunter: Call of the Wild.

We appreciate your detailed feedback on how lions currently behave in the game and your comparison to the more realistic behavior of Bengal tigers. Your idea of making lions act as true apex predators, similar to their real-life counterparts, would indeed add a thrilling new element to the Vurhonga Savanna map.

We'll make sure to pass your feedback along to the rest of the team for consideration in future updates. Enhancing the lion's behavior to reflect their natural instincts could certainly boost the popularity of the African map and create a more immersive hunting experience.

If you have any more ideas or feedback to share, please feel free to let us know. We're here to listen!

If you have any more ideas or feedback to share, you can submit them through our support portal: https://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

I think losing levels of progress would be frustrating since it takes so long to achieve

It is just too many lions for me and it seems that they are disputing territory and mating rights among the males. I would like also there to be a very small group of male siblings, like 2 or 3, who challenge and are willing to kill the leader of another pride.

I definitely think that the Tiger's stalking behavior should be added to the Lions. Can you imagine how terrifying it could be to hear a lion sneaking up on you in the tall grass on Vurhonga?

I think the tiger territory system would work much better for lions. As well, a model revamp would be quite welcome

lions chasing players at night in their territory when they are hungry, but never trying to attack if the player does not behave like prey during the day (for example, the player shoots at the ground or remains still without turning his back). I think to differentiate it from the gameplay with the tiger and make each one unique would be cool. Along with a new model if the devs want 🤣
Imagine being chased by a pride of lions and obtaining a rare one, it would be very satisfying to survive to tell the story with the trophy

Hunting lions should feel more like this.

I want to be charged by a lion coming out of the tall grass!

I don't want them to constantly charge like the wolves but I would like to see carnivores sizing you up or even stalking but not choosing to pounce to warm you up

Then, when your back is turned, they go for the kill

Have lions spook and change the movements of other animals

As the top order carnivore, they should have a whole landscape of fear going on across the savannah

The only problem I could raise with having lions hunt you is that they could attack you as a pride, in which case, I feel it would be near impossible to defend yourself against all of that. Fortunately (though I do disagree with the concept), lions only travel as solos and don't act as a pride, but instead as an individual so implementing a similar stalking mechanic as tigers would be phenomol. However, I would prefer lion behavior get a rework in that they travel as a pride rather than as individuals.

ebon hound
#

Well lions often spend a lot of time alone

But they rarely hunt alone, that's all I'm saying. It'd just be interesting, if they were to implement a similar mechanic as tigers, how they would do so and how it would be different from tigers and wolves

This has to be added to cougars as well, not just lions. Cougars are even more likely to stalk and ambush.
