#Pricing on Sundarpatan Nepal Hunting Reserve

Hey everyone,

We have an important update about our pricing structure that will come into play alongside the launch of Sundarpatan Nepal Hunting Reserve.
Ever since theHunter: Call of the Wild was released in 2017, we've maintained a steady price point for all our reserves. But as we progress, starting with the Sundarpatan Reserve, the price of new hunting locations will be adjusted to 11.99 USD / 11.79 EUR.

There's a variety of factors that contribute to our pricing decisions, the primary one being the overall rising costs of game development. We believe this new price better represents the value of the added gameplay experience that reserves have to offer and will allow us to support the game with even more diverse content in the future.
That being said, we will continue to support our most dedicated players by offering a special 20% launch discount for Sundarpatan Reserve on all platforms.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support. We hope to see you in Sundarpatan soon!

I fully support paying full price for the new DLC. It's a shame that the COTW discord team don't show the same support for their entire community, with regards to which country they come from. If you're going to take money from a country then allow those people to represent themselves. A flag is a symbol of the country and it's people, not the government that runs/dictates it.

I expressed my point of view, you started a polemic, nothing more, if you already think that it will be such a leap in quality, then I'm waiting for arguments, what's new? was the map written on a new graphics engine? I don't see anything that wasn't there before, another map with new animals and so many new mechanics, old graphics engine, again a few models of the appearance of trees that are implemented into the map using the copy-paste method, what's so unusual? because I don't see it, can you explain it to me?

If y'all are getting heated over opposing sides, take a breather and come back when you're heads are cooler -

No one likes raising prices, but ultimately they did put a years worth of finesse and development into this, so, imo, the 3€ jump is well deserved.

If the issue is solely the price point, ultimately, they launch with a 20% mark down and also there are other sales to possibly pick it up on through the year - so for the thrifty player, that is always an option.

We have a species list, 2 short trailers and a fly over of the landscape. I'm for one not putting my great job EW banners on display until after release. Seems like a lot of fans turn a blind eye to the problems this game has as soon as the company shows them something new.

valid crow
# tall girder We don't know if it's well deserved and neither do you because it's unreleased.

Sure, you could argue that - but my opinion remains the same.
I think, for having a year of no map and them putting in the extra time and effort, that I can let them have another 3 dollars. Afterall, devs gotta eat too, and for the first price jump in 7 years? I mean.. People pay more for battle passes in other games on like a bi-monthly basis, so.. to that end.. 11€/year vs someone paying 10-15€ every 2 months? That math also works for me. As a non-battlepass player, I certainly value my 11€ "fee" comparatively.

Not everyone will be okay for this, or like it - and that is OKAY - but in my case it's not exactly a dire issue.

I also wouldn't say I am turning a blind eye? I'm aware that they are rolling out things piece by piece. Sure, they could have given us a species list and a whole breakdown yesterday, but.. since we have no release date (pretend its like still 3 weeks out, we haven't even gotten word of console certifications etc) - now we have mad people that they know what they are being delivered and now have to wait almost a month for it.
From that stance, I am fine with seeing the map view/tour and going from there. Next week I think we see some or all animals or something?
Possibly the GO?

#

Ultimately, my point of if people can't keep it civil in conversation, they need to take a break and come back with a cooler head, stands.

tall girder
# valid crow Sure, you could argue that - but my opinion remains the same. I think, for havi...

I'm not trying to be rude but I was sure you're gonna give the benefit of the doubt. You ARE a mod here after all so your answer is right along with what I expected it to be. EW is deserving, they gotta eat too, etc. I legit killed over 30 banteng this morning by the coast because the AI sucks so bad they couldn't figure out a way away from the water. That's the last map that released. Completely immersion breaking issues upon the last release a whole year later and now your hiking prices up on me after that issue and many many others just get kinda ignored or glossed over. For a WHOLE year. IMO the price jump isn't justified for me. That's just my opinion man. They're like buttholes everyone has one

valid crow
#

And that's fair, I mean, we report the issues we find for a reason.
Include video clips when possible - the Devs do bug fixing as often as they can figure them out. The more reports they have - the more info they have to try and work backwards through the bugs.
Sometimes its a hitbox thing (re: moose cheerleader pyramids) and sometimes its an AI thing. Bug fixing, testing, altering - those all require reports being made.
And when community members DO report it's super helpful and helps get things moving.

I can get the frustration with that sort of immersion break, truly. If it's not worth it to you, with the new prices, grab on sales if you deem that is okay - or hold off until you are comfortable and confident in the content they are putting out with regards to bug fixes.

# tall girder Idk man. Maybe you're right and this team is dedicated and willing to do whateve...

(Sorry for the delay, I was answering the Queen Dogs summons for her afternoon meander.)

Hey you know, I meant it when I said differing opinions are okay. It's the conversation conduct that matters, ultimately.
While I was out walking though, another thought hit me. In 7 years, we have paid 5-8€ per map (depending on launch price/store sale prices etc). Not once has that shifted, despite the fact that most certainly the cost of living has gone up.

As someone who previously worked a routine 45 hours a week in the states, for a measly 12$/hr (and OT got skimped on because as a mom and pop business we couldn't really "afford" it) I guess I feel strongly for people who do put in the work - but don't necessarily reap the benefit. My job raised prices after 5 years, our customers got MAD about it, until I broke it down for them and explained that the bag of dog food they bought was a 4$ profit for us if we retained the old pricing.. which like on one hand, yeah its 4$... but when you are running a store and staffing it AND buying product... that 4$ doesn't go far.

Granted, its not the same model, but running the team, staffing it, creating and fixing content takes on a new value when the cost of living for the staff itself, the commutes, the electricity required to run the office plus replacing any out of date/failing/broken mechanical components - that all is the cost you try to meet.. so the figurative 4$ also doesn't go far in office, at that point.

Idk, I guess, with that mindset, I offer a little more leniency and understanding.
Thank you for being willing to talk, instead of rant.. Thank you for your time, and welcome home friend~

Im okay with the price increase .... I was surprised that dlc was a low as it was 3 years ago when I started playing. I also understand that hiring and keeping good dev talent is necessary. Price increases are never easy but crap rolls down hill and unfortunately the consumer is always at the bottom .... In the US we have fast food workers asking for 15.00 to 20.00 bucks an hour ... What do you think it costs for a good competent game developer / Content creator ???

tall girder
# fickle shoal Im okay with the price increase .... I was surprised that dlc was a low as it wa...

I guess it's all objective tbh. Some of us make enough money the prices don't matter. Some hate it off principle alone. Some think the company shouldn't raise prices with the game in the state its in. I have no idea what a deserving salary is for game designers. All I know is the working man's struggle and they probably still make more than the average man. They DO gave degrees, so it's a skilled job for the most part but idk. Inflation all that crap comes into play. Like @valid crow said if you don't like the best thing to do is wait on a sale when you're sure it's worth it because I'm pretty sure this whole text string is just generate buzz. They don't care what we think about the pricing lol they're gonna charge what they charge

lapis onyx
#

This is completely fine cuz they took an entire year for the map and not just 6 months like other ones so no problem 👍

fickle shoal
#

@tall girder I think they care but they have direct competition now in the hunting sim space so they have to up the anti. At the end of the day if their product is not worth the price they are charging then people will go elsewhere ... That's just how the free market operates ....

#

One thing I do wonder is whether the other game is paying royalties to use the name of Licensed products or if those companies are paying them to advertise thier products ..... I could really care less about branding but if it could give EW an opportunity to make additional revenue then I would be okay with that

tall girder
#

I've always wondered why they didn't take that route with the weapons and gear but I eventually just quit asking as I chalked it up to its just never gonna happen. Seems like something that they wouldn't even entertain.

#

Where as I guess if they make up their own stuff they have more creative freedom to make it to their own standard instead of another companies standard. Which I guess is good enough considering calling COTW a "sim" is a bit of a stretch IMO. It fits with the level of realism.

#

As far as people going elsewhere idk about that. I thought so too but this market is so niche. WOTH is cool but caters to a different playstyle for a lot of COTW people and it has its own slew of pricing issues IMO. That's not a very happy discord rn🤣

I just wanted to add my .02 on this. I've been playing computer games for a very long time and have played many, many games over the years. Dollar for dollar this game has given me more value for my money than almost any game I can recall purchasing. Yes it has its imperfections. (What game or just about anything in life doesn't). I'm retired so I have a fair amount of free time to fill and this game and the Angler provide me many hours of enjoyment and mental stimulation. I'm not crazy about spending more money especially being on a fixed income but I don't feel that EW is taking advantage of its customers here. True, we won't know for sure until the map is released and we get to spend some time in it. I feel confident that I won't be disappointed based on my past experience of playing EW games. Guys and Gals it's a game man not life and death. So much in the world to worry about just have fun with this.

I’m not understanding the issue

tall girder
#

As if someone standing on the principle of immersion breaking bugs and ignored issues for months on end isn't a standard for being upset about the price. You know they've released cosmetic packs for every reserve? Multiple weapon and gear packs? All these costs money dirt. Money used pm development. Meanwhile in the whole year these things were coming out and we were buying them, all the immersion breaking issues people complain about for the most part are still standing. You must be pretty ignorant to the standing of this game as a whole you think people have absolutely no reason to complain.

#

Then to tell people basically to be upset about the price is immature and have no understanding of tbe world rn is brash and intentionally arrogant.

frank perch
#

It’s a fact that prices are increasing astronomically as well as people’s pay checks and if they don’t increase the prices how will their paycheck balance out with the economy why would they work on this game if they could switch to a company that pays better because they didn’t want to raise the prices the fact that a game has bugs dosnt change the hard work they put it. Also who buys cosmetics really? 🤣

tall girder
# frank perch It’s a fact that prices are increasing astronomically as well as people’s pay ch...

I'm pretty sure the majority of everyone has bought most of the cosmetic packs. They wouldn't have polls on them or have kept releasing them if they were a flop. Secondly, we don't know what kind of money EW makes and to say you understand their business model you'd be lying. Because you don't. You nor I know for sure whether this price change is for the survival of the company or a necessary thing for the employees. They say it's for "rising costs of development" which it could very well be. They also say it's so make the game better in the long run which it very well could be. The fact of the matter is, people are walking away from this game due to the price change not because of the $4. It's because there's a lot of problems and bugs and things people want to see in the game that EW plays deaf to. They see the price change as a spit in the face of the consumer because when you break it down and step into their shoes for a second; how can you keep asking money from me when you won't fix what I've already paid for?

#

For example how long ago did Vurhonga come out? Yet I can still stand around a pond and kill 9 lions because they just stand around with their mouths open. THIS MAP AND CREATURE ARE YEARS OLD! There's stuff like that plagued all through COTW and it's been swept under the rug. I'm not gonna NOT buy the dlc because I love this game. I'm just saying I understand those who don't.

fickle shoal
#

If I can interject .... I understand the world economy is tough and that some don't feel like the base game justifies the increase cost of the dlc... But at the end of the day we as consumers have to make that decision individually just as EW has to make that decision for themselves to increase pricing... They are taking a chance and it might backfire on them in the loss of players or it could be a boon to them in increasing revenues ... Its just business at the end of the day and we will have to wait and see how it goes ....

frank perch
#

I can’t argue with the fact that they don’t fix bugs because I have a game breaking bug myself stuck on a mission forever in one map but for the main part of the game frozen animals and wolves stuck howling just don’t effect it as much I feel your exaggerating a tad bit. And the fact that they keep popping maps out left in right at light speed deserves praise I know games that take 2-3 years to get maps of this size out and they do it in months

tall girder
tall girder
#

Also if I may, games that take 2-3 years to put stuff out are usually much more graphically inclined and they ship with less issues. Then you say you have a game breaking bug on one map? So you legit can't effectively use a product you've already paid for? Literal reinforcement of my point. You can't use what you have already properly and they implement a price change. It doesn't matter if the world's economy is changing or not. You should have a properly working game for the price before you raise it on people.

frank perch
#

The 2-3 year old game is pretty much at the same lvl as cotw if not worse but uh I can’t argue with the bugs as I said they suck at fixing them instead they focus on getting new maps and DLCs out

fickle shoal
frank perch
#

Yea but some of these bugs are years old and they don’t really have an excuse for never fixing them

fickle shoal
#

Well for me I come from the position of having no game breaking bugs .... yeah I have a mission or two that cant be completed but nothing I would really call game breaking... But I play on PC so I have no way of knowing if the majority of the existing bugs are on the consoles or not .... Also I think peer to peer MP confuses the issue ... there are a lot of players that complain about how buggy MP is but with Peer to Peer system like COTW has there is no way to really fix those issues ... Peer to Peer is just inherently unreliable ....

tall girder
# fickle shoal If you were running EW what would you focus on ? It's a hard choice to choose ...

I don't think it's very much of a hard choice. Especially like now when they've taken this extra time to make a crazy new map. That's great but I still wanna play my old ones. Hopefully most of the issues won't remain and they're planning fixes for them but I don't think every move they make should be focused around making money. Player QOL does matter. Immersion matters in a hunting game. At least for me. Stuff like the lions or deer standing with a foot of water over their heads drinking, rabbits running vertically, not being able to figure out the terrain and the AI Wilding out. I don't use MP so I can't speak for connection issues.

fickle shoal
#

Yes QOL does matter, but from a business standpoint they also have to pay employees and keep the lights on ever day. Regularly releasing dlc's has to happen and that's why we see so many cosmetic packs and weapon packs that are really just cosmetic of weapons we already have .... Those dlc's are fairly easy to make and people do buy them ... For me personally I would rather pay a subscription of 2.00 to 3.00 a month ...

I mean we think nothing of paying twice or 3 times that amount for some streaming service that doesn't give nearly the entertainment value that I get from COTW.

So how about this option … Offer a a subscription service for those that would rather pay on a monthly basis. You pay a monthly subscription and you get all the DLC's as they are released during the year. In six months you will have paid the price of the new yearly map. This would provide a steady stream of income for EW to do both QOL fixes as well as new content ...

And when we were accustomed to 8$ - a 4$ jump (while not huge) might not be in the budget immediately for everyone, thanks to bills etc. (That's not even counting emergency crap that may happen).
Some people may be underage for a job, and can't earn money, and are at the mercy of their parents saying yes/no to things.

Then there's the angle of: Well why change something that's worked so far? Not all consumers like that, but ultimately, Devs got bills and rising costs of living, just like the rest of us.

So I mean, it might seem like a silly thing to get mad over - but.. Not everyone is in the same boat, y'know? And we shouldn't judge over that.

Yeah, Puma/Mountain Lions and Bobcats/Lynx are already a massive pain in the butt, and now theyre introducing a MORE aggressive animal... I'm really tired of spending 5-10 minutes sneaking up on a herd of particularly sensitive animals/animals I suck at hunting just for them to spook literally the second I ADS because surprise surprise, there was a buggy, erratic, excrutiatingly loud Puma half a mile away screaming its head off. Or whole entire MOOSE spooking because a Bobcat/Lynx had the audacity to exist remotely near them...
Considering that I assume the majority of this reserve will be mountains and jungles with very few good sightlines or ways to sneak up on animals without making too much noise (which already ticks me off a bit), I'm not really all that optimistic about the Tigers' effect on non-Tiger hunts.
I literally NEVER hunt on Parque because of this. The brush is too thick, too much of the map is coated in stupidly dense (and loud) forests, and the hills and mountains are so steep and common that you can't see farther than 50-100 yards without all the trees covering them. The cat AI is so buggy that it ruins any hunt, including ones where you arent even looking for one, and all the other animals seem to have superpowers. Considering that I believe the new map only has a large river and few other water sources... Eugh... I'm really not sure how fun hunting here is gonna be

Oh my god, that tiger growl is terrifying, especially at night. Hands down best map by EW so far. I'd have paid $15 for this DLC without a sweat.

Sundarpatan is waaay more expensive than other map DLCs. It's a bit over $9.30 AUD for all the other reserves. Sundarpatan is almost $18 AUD and ~$14.34 with the discount. Full price is close to 100% more expensive than all the other reserves. This doesn't make much sense to me given I bought all of the other reserves within the past month. Even with the discount it's about 150% more expensive.

Hmm. You shouldn't be having a problem. Set your clock to about 6am and then around all the lakes South West quarter of the map but then also all lower third biome lakes to find drink zones. If they exist then you have tigers. I'd double check your backpack because I've had that reset to large on me after a crash.

#

Maybe you're too quiet. I'd imagine noise would get them to stalk you though. Very odd. Hope you get it sorted.

Now that I played it, this map is a no-brainer. Definitely worth full price, even though I didn’t wait and purchased it as soon as I possibly could. 😏

I suspected the price increase was because of rising costs of game development, but not that big of a deal for me. For right now anyway.

@cunning herald Can you explain why the franchise sale on Steam was delayed relative to the release of Sundarpatan? Standard practice is for such sales to be simultaneous with major releases. Knowing that and not seeing a sale, I purchased another DLC alongside the map. Now two days later I see it at a lower price. It's only a matter of a couple dollars but it doesn't feel good on principle. It feels like the company may have intentionally waited until after many people had made purchases associated with the map release before initiating the sale. Steam has refused a refund due to the time I've put into the game since purchase. I'll try again but if there's anything EW can do to reach out to Steam support in favor of honoring refunds due to the delayed sale I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks

To be honest I know very little in how sales are handled as it does not fall under community management. What I do know is that we try to join every sales campaign we are able to in order to offer the game and it's DLC's at the lowest prices available.

I am fine with the price. There was a 20% Sale on PlayStation, so I got the map and cosmetic pack for $13 and change after tax. That's half of what I spend on food delivery for a meal or to see a movie for 2 hours. For years of entertainment, that's a steal.

Agreed. No problem paying for quality content.
My issue is multiplayer being beyond broken and the constant bush sound bug still being in the game 5 years later. We pay for content but some of the worst issues are not being resolved. I would like to see some of those $$ we give them go to fixes/changes for these issues because these really need to be fixed.

There was a launch discount for Sundarpatan, which was always our intention to make sure you got a good price for the new DLC on launch day. Lining up all the dots with different platforms to bring together the COTW franchise sale is not as simple as us deciding a date and it happening perfectly together. Spacing them by 1-2 days was not at all done with the thought that players would buy other DLC's with Sundarpatan and miss out on the sale. I can assure your specific situation was NOT something we planned for or expected many people to do.

Hey Vivi! I completely understand lining up the sale times across platforms isn’t as easy as many people may think. I just wanted to ask though, will PlayStation players still get the COTW Franchise sale sometime in the next few days before it all ends? I know many people are a bit upset about other platforms getting it, as the sale has been advertised but not delivered for PlayStation platforms. Many thanks

Lining up all the dots with different platforms to bring together the COTW franchise sale is not as simple as us deciding a date and it happening perfectly together.

Jaxy and Avalanche support through the website said much the same thing, but I'm honestly having trouble understanding it.

Particularly in the context of just lining up the release and the sale within Steam: If the publisher wants to have the sale start on a given day (like release day) can Steam just refuse? Maybe I haven't been paying attention but this isn't an issue I've ever noticed with other games on Steam. Franchise sales and releases always seem to line up. Even CotW didn't seem to have any trouble with it in the past.

And if you're saying the complication is lining things up across platforms then I think that shouldn't really be a concern which takes precedence over consistency within each platform. And based on the other commenter, it sounds like not all the platforms aligned this time anyway.

Sorry if I'm off the mark here but I really am struggling to understand the issue based on what I've seen using Steam for many years. And while I understand that it probably wasn't a deliberate rug-pull I also would have thought that the publisher would want to ensure that there's not even a possibility of it feeling that way. Thanks

Man listen. The DLC is worth the price increase. It's the same price as a decent meal from McDonalds on average anywhere in the world. It was cheap before. Less cheap now, but still cheaper than most games after just a year of waiting. That's not that long tbh when you're getting actual good updates during the year. It's worth. If your argument is they should fix broken stuff before they raise the price, things break in games all the time. Fix 10 things, 4 different ones break. It's just the reality of making games. It's not perfect and neither are the devs but inflation and rising cost is real for companies just like the average household. Don't like the price increase? Be grateful they give you MP access. They really don't have to.

Pricing doesn’t matter cause the quality and quantity of content that was provided however if you look at some old DLCs maps for example Parque they are lacking unique species like Nepal has so many and some other reserves.

#

Parque only has a teal that you can only hunt on that map now with Blackbucks on Nepal. A backfill wouldn’t get a veteran player to go back on that map like a new species would.

As I said before. I agree with the price increase and have no issue paying for quality content. I also think it’s fair to say that some of that money we pay should go into fixing a 5 year old issue that affects gameplay 90+% of my total play time. They have patch notes for this release and there are 60+ issues they have resolved but the main one for a very large number of players isn’t even mentioned. That’s a big problem and the lack of transparency on the issue is frustrating to paying customers. I work with software programs and I understand bugs happen, and when bugs get fixed sometimes other bugs come from the fix. But 5 years later, an issue still being swept under the rug is inexcusable.

My most recent point is: When you go to a restaurant and order a steak and the person at the table next to you orders the exact same dish, are you okay with their dish costing them $25 while you have to pay $34 for the same thing? For anyone saying gamepass gives the discount, it gives 10% on dlc’s. In comparison to the 25-50% discount pc gets, my point still stands. Why should one customer consistently pay more for the same product than another?

The pricing increase is so minimal and you get to hunt cool snow leopards and tigers. Like I would pay $2-3 more for Zebras or even the Pere's David Deer. But instead they will probably backfill some random species into Parque. All while it doing nothing to ultimately help its popularity, or of it truly succeeding or staying to par with Nepal the only replayability with Parque is the Cinnamon Teal. Therefore, it’s a bad DLC.

If companies release products that aren’t improved from their previous product release they don’t sell and therefore they don’t increase revenues. Let’s not forget this is a business creating products. They learn from each product they’ve released and improve on that. Methods and processes are innovated. Models are improved. If a product from years ago is as good as one from today then their innovation and product development has failed.

#

I’m confused on what you are saying. Talking about how they are innovated and methods/models are improved. But than they give the experienced players backfills? Not like that really helped to improve its popularity to remain to subpar with Sunderpatan. Even Layton has 3 uniques species and is still one of the best maps in the game. You giving product development no sustainability is just incorrect from a business standpoint. If a DLC/Map becomes unpopular it’s most likely cause they already backfilled that species into a newer map. They marketed Nepal with good unique species and got good results for what taking a risk and they are reaping the rewards from their effort. Layton is super successful reserve not just as a base map but cause of the amount of species and unique species still doesn’t mean their not innovative and heir product development has failed. Especially when you see updates like Great Ones, Backfills, they consistently update/patch the game. Doesn’t mean they aren’t innovative cause as you can tell all the maps are updated just like the game.

#

You can look at old backfills and ask yourself did you go back to that map cause they added that one old model/species? If they updated models like Blackbuck and water buffalo every time they did backfills that’s a complete different story.

Honestly the map costs what it costs. The consumer has the option to spend money or not. Asking for consistency between platforms is a nice ideal but ultimately it boils down to what it costs for you and if you’re willing to spend the money. Personally the new map is great worth every cent.
