#How Trail Cams could be used in COTW

Trail cams in COTW do not take pictures but they do provide lots of valuable information. The trail cams are purchased and when placed are attached to zone markers. When operational for at least 1 day they will give information on the animals visiting that zone.

As an alternative the Camera could be placed in an "unattached state" in which case it could detect new zones zones within the cameras viewing radius. When a new zone is detected the camera then becomes attached to that zone revealing additional information about the zone as seen below ...

When you hover over the trail cam icon that is attached to a zone on your map you can receive the following information transmitted to your hunter mate

  1. Number of animals in the herd
  2. Class and levels of animals that last visited the zone …
  3. **Any rare furs spotted ** 🔥
  4. Exact time when Animals arrive in the zone 🔥

Trails cams should be expensive to purchase (like tents and stands ) and limited in how many can be placed on a map. ..... Additionally the trail cams must be maintained so have a battery life timer that requires the hunter to purchase/replace batteries .

Of course this is just a general outline … Feel free to add or remove any features that might be over or under powered ….

These would be so much fun and really add another dimension to the hunting experience.

In the game Deer Hunter 2005, there is the Trail Cam.

trail cams don't need to take pictures to be useful in game ....

What an idea!

maybe less info. not the levels but a range of levels if you see 1-5 for a deer herd could be just a big 4 or maybe a 5

I edited the original post to add possible additional features to the Trail Cam

edited the OP to add additional features to the Trail Cam ....

I mean the devs have teased them in plenty maps already, I really think they are trying to find a balanced way to make them work

or maybe they are just trolling

I would love to see this

So I was think about this recently and I came to a conclusion. This would be very hard to code but very useful and profitable in the end, so i don't know if EW will ever add this to the game

So here's a idea we've all placed a trail camera out once and say a bear or I've had raccoons rip them off the trees so it would be cool if that happend in game and say a big buck ripped it off with his antlers it would make the player go and replace the camera more often

narrow dagger
#

Not really necessary .... as laid out in the OP .... The cams should be maintained with fresh batts on a regular basis or will not function ....

Now this sounds realistic but will get old real quick for players .... So I suggest not requiring the hunter to manually visit each trail cam to replace batts

Just allow him to purchase batts in the store and then click on a trail cam icon on the map to replace batts....

Tbh this is about the only possible way o could see trail cams working. Make them incredibly expensive to buy (I’m talking $30,000+ a pop) and limit what they can actually do. No pictures, no videos, but info on animals in those specific zones is understandable. Plus, if you have to actually maintain it (eg. not being able to use it for a certain amount of time, having to pay money to refill the battery, etc.) it would be fairly balanced.

Ultimately its up to the devs how much they want to charge in game for these .... I think they should release them as a DLC item first ...

like tents where you get a certain number of cams for the price of the DLC ....

After that you can purchase them in the store for in game creds .... As for price it really depends of how many features the devs build into the cams ....

narrow dagger
#

with the proposed feature list in the OP and how easy it is get creds in this game I propose 20k price with a 1k recharge that will last about 1 RT month for each cam you own .....

If you have seen Deer Hunting Camp game that just came out on steam that's the best I've seen them used. You can place them and see livestream video which I like. I have a Spartan GoLive cam Irl that can do the same thing.

Because of the way animals spawn and move from zone to zone in HCOTW it would be very difficult to capture video or take pics ..... That's why I just suggest they record information only ....

COTW hunters have always wanted some very key information like exact time when animals populate the zone and rare fur variations ...
