#Show fur type when spotting an animal: a new skill

Sometimes, it's really difficult to tell what fur type an animal has whenever you spot it, so it would be a lot easier if whenever we spot an animal, it would tell us it's fur type. Take Ibex for example, my first super-rare was a mela ibex diamond. I didn't know it was mela at first though. It looked pretty much the same as a dark grey ibex.

Hello Seamussy,

Thank you for sharing your suggestion regarding displaying fur type when spotting an animal. We understand how important it is for hunters to easily identify the fur type of animals, especially when tracking rare specimens.

Your example with the Ibex highlights a common challenge faced by hunters, and we appreciate your feedback in addressing this issue.

We'll certainly consider your suggestion for future improvements to the game. Ensuring clarity and ease of identification for players is a priority for us, and your input helps guide us in achieving that goal.

If you have any more ideas or feedback to share, feel free to reach out to us anytime. We're here to listen!

And remember, if you have any other suggestions or feedback, don't hesitate to contact us via our support portal: https://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Happy hunting!

Big bump cus it would totally make sense to have it part of the ambusher skills to be able to spot and go "oh cool, it's a [fur type here]", maybe as a level two for a scoped spotting skill or alteration to level 3 spotting?

Also just being easier for colorblind people. I don't hunt waterfowl and don't care because I'm colorblind, so I'd never see a rare if it stared me in the face. I had a hard enough time figuring if a crocodile was luesistic. Would be nice to just be told

If they implemented this, I hope there is a way to turn it off or not unlock it.

If this ever get implemented, it would be nice that it could be either activated or desactived on demand in the settings.

Because disturbed veg and the fun of not having confirmation until you harvest the animal would be lost otherwise, at least in my opinion

I killed a lot of rare first two years of playing. And didn't know about it. Because I'm not a real hunter. I'm not a biologist. How should I known about it. For whom a peibold or braun or black gold are the rare for whom common. Now I killed multiple rare Tibetan fox before the community posted the information. It's like a private club. The devs took an absolutely wrong giving it to enthusiasts.

It works if yours first one isn't peibold. If you known about this game early. If you friends known. If you watched about the game in YouTube or read here. But if you see a grey mouflon, grey goose, brown black bear, or peibold mallard, sand tibetan fox etc. It's very hard. The devs didn't give us no one clue. I wan't to read community post. I want play and see what I got in the game. Rare or uncommon.

It could even help the visually impaired who might not be able to tell the difference between a melanistic or just a dark fur type

I think this will be even more necessary now that snow accumulates on the animals' fur and can lead to confusion about some rare fur.

I think a better option would be to have some indication an animal is rare in the harvest screen, making it easier for new players to tell if something is rare while still keeping the fun of not knowing the fur type until you pick it up and maintaining a use for disturbed veg

One of the most interesting things about getting a rare is realizing it's rare. If you remove that part of it and the challenge of knowing something is rare, it would take a layer of realism away from the hunting experience. I recently got a cream tufted duck, and I didn't see it at first. Looking over the flock again, I saw something was off and remembered the rare cream, which made the experience more memorable and exciting versus instantly knowing something is rare because of something in the spotting info.

Some rares currently in the game can be pretty hard to tell from the commons, but that’s what makes it fun and more challenging, and ultimately, more rewarding when you get one, if there was an indication an animal was rare in the spotting info, it would remove any kind of challenge. Also, in real life, you have to discern if an animal has any kind of mutation for yourself, which is how the current system functions in the game, if there was an indication an animal was rare when spotting, it would remove this sense of realism.

Again, suggesting for the harvest screen to tell you somethings rare instead. This would be better than in the spotting outline, so you don't lose the thrill of realizing somethings rare. If something looks a bit weird with an animal's fur type shoot it and then the harvest screen will tell you it's rare. If you have absolutely no idea somethings rare and you miss it you won't me annoyed because you wouldn't have known you missed it, and if you can't tell for yourself that something's rare did you really find the rare and do you really deserve it?

There’s also the COTW Companion app, and IMO I think this skill would defeat the purpose of the Vegetation tracking skill that’s already in game because then people wouldn’t need to use it as much anymore, if at all, to figure out what their animal is. Maybe this could be a skill placed on night vision scopes though so people can tell their animals apart when it’s dark? Though I don’t think that would make sense, because technically you wouldn’t be able to tell IRL as well anyways.
