I was doing missions on Medved the other day and tracked down Baden, thought it was odd that the Warden mentioned a rifle but you didn't see one when you found him. That made me think about the helicopter on Te Awaroa, where you just pick up a rifle left on the seat.
Cabela's Alaskan Adventure had a mission similar to Medved's, you entered a hunting area and the warden would radio in to say that a hunter had been lost in a blizzard and the search planes had finally spotted something, you go to the spot and look around to find a little snow shelter with a frozen man in it. the warden basically says "Why don't you keep the rifle? he doesn't need it now and it's to nice to leave behind" in this case it's a replica Sharps .45-70 (comes in handy in the second hunting area for bear and bison)
Makes me wonder why Cotw doesn't have more little interactions like that. It doesn't need to be a huge thing, just something to pique interest or to get a player interested in the environment. Let's say Doc says a hunter got hurt by the old church on the western side of the map and you go have a look out of curiosity and when you go into the church there's a Whitlock .30-30 left behind with a broken stock. You pick it up and Doc says the Hunter left it on purpose and he couldn't contact the owner.
"I guess you could have a Gunsmith look it over, might be sound enough to use still if you put some work into it" then it goes to your cache just like the rifle on Te Awaroa does
It would be a cool to get rewarded for exploration and a really cool way to bring some life to the base game weapons.
"This Whitlock .30-30 was found badly damaged after a hunter on Mount Leviathan took a spill, with a gunsmith's help it's back in hunting shape! The action was improved for high pressure rounds and the 3 round magazine gives it a sleek Sporting look. " Introduces Hard Cast ammo (Moradi but with the .30-30's skin and name)
