#A LAND OF TAHR, MUNTJAC AND BEARS: Himalayan Hunting Reserve, Nepal

Due to the speculation that the next reserve is likely in a part of Asia where the Northern Muntjac can be hunted, I quickly put this together and I would like to thank @wild geyser for providing this useful link: https://lawcommission.gov.np/en/?p=12046

The reserve can be divided into several biomes

  • Himalayan Broadleaf Forest
  • Subalpine Conifer Forest
  • Terai Lowland Grasslands
  • Subtropical Broadleaf Forest
  • Himalayan Alpine Meadows

The Big Game Species of this reserve are numerous and the Himalayan Bharal will be the icon of this reserve

  • Indian Nilgai - Class 8
  • Himalayan Black Bear - Class 7
  • Sloth Bear - Class 7
  • Sambar Deer - Class 6
  • Indian Leopard - Class 5, 6 or 7
  • Himalayan Bharal - Class 4 or 5
  • Himalayan Tahr - Class 4
  • Indian Wild Boar - Class 4
  • Himalayan Goral - Class 3
  • Axis Deer - Class 3
  • Indian Hog Deer - Class 3

The Small Game, which includes the Northern Red Muntjac

  • Northern Red Muntjac - Class 2
  • Indian Jackal - Class 2
  • Rhesus Macaque - Class 2
  • Nepal Grey Langur - Class 1
  • Indian Hare - Class 1

And the numerous gamebirds

  • Peacock
  • Cheer Pheasant
  • Red Junglefowl
  • Black Francolin
  • Chukar
  • Kalij Pheasant
  • Tibetan Snowcock
  • Common Quail
  • Oriental Turtle-dove
  • Orange-breasted Green Pigeon
  • Snow Pigeon
  • Common Snipe
  • Ruddy Shelduck
  • Indian Spot-billed Duck
#

The Big Game Species in order
• Nilgai
• Black & Sloth Bears
• Leopard
• Sambar, Axis
• Goral, Tahr & Bharal

#

The Wild Boar, Macaque, Red Muntjac & Hare

@livid lagoon the Nilgai is a Class 8 Animal, so its in the same weapon class as the Moose

#

Now for a bunch of birds: Peafowl (Male & Female), Spot-billed Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, Common Snipe, Junglefowl

#

Cheer & Kalij Pheasant, Black Francolin, Chukar, Snowcock, Quail, Turtle-dove, Green Pigeon, Snow Pigeon

spring badger
#

I’m All For This Reserve Since It Seems All Of These Species Are Legal To Hunt.

graceful epoch
#

Same; I am convinced to support this idea, even if it doesn't end up being the next map

red flicker
#

Fun fact: The Sloth Bear is likely to be the reserves most aggressive species due to having the mentality of being a prey animal (tigers eat them)

late sun
red flicker
#

Both the Peafowl and Tahr could be backfilled to Te Awaroa

The Common Quail & Common Snipe could also be backfilled to any of the European Reserves since they both live all the way from Spain to Siberia & India

(North American populations of Common Snipe have been reclassified (given full species status) as Wilson’s Snipe sometime ago but given their similarities the Common Snipe could be added to North American Reserves under the name “Wilson’s Snipe” potentially)

wild geyser
#

Siberian Weasel and Northern Red Muntjac also have ranges in the same place, both being animals on the survey….

#

Which would mean Medved Backfill!!!

The last sighting of a weasel in Taiga was in May 2023, I still go around the map every Sunday in the hope of finding one XD

spring badger
#

And Considering That Siberian Weasels And Northern Red Muntjac Both Live In Nepal, So There’s A Possibility That They’re Both On The Map.

noble fiber
#

@red flicker isn't this a blue sheep? or is it under a different name here?

wild geyser
tired lagoon
#

I hope this is the new map, and LEOPARDS BETTER BE THERE! if MooseDragon is mentioning Indian leopards, then you know it is for sure legal to hunt them!

tired lagoon
#

Btw, they might ass well add the tahr to Te Awaroa with this map

wild geyser
#

Argali also range into Nepal,I believe it is referred to as “Great Tibetan Sheep” in the sources listed.

red flicker
#

It’s Nepali name is “Nayan or Nyan” while the Bharal/Blue Sheep is also known as “Naur”

Apparently the Tibetan Argali may not be doing that well in Nepal

wild geyser

Strangely Enough, I Want The Sloth Bears And Goral On This List To Come To The Game The Most, As Well As Tahr Since Te Awaroa Really Needs Them.

I Think That This Is A Heavily Possible Idea, Especially Considering That EW Removed The Option For Northern Red Muntjac On The Survey…And Since This Is The Only Place Where They Can Be Hunted Legally.

Now it makes sense. Jaxy at first hearing the country "Nepal" was like "Oh, this isn't largely a location I was asking for" but got hyped when found out the animal list 👍

I’m Thinking That Perhaps EW Would Take Some Artistic Liberties With This Map And Maybe Add Gaur. They’re Not Common In Nepal, But Their Population Is Beginning To Increase In The Country. I Would Definitely Like To See Them.

They’re Known As Indian Bison For A Reason. They’re Absolutely Massive. They’d Be The Largest Animal In The Game If They Were On This Map. The Largest Of Bulls Can Weigh Up To 3100 Pounds.

Literally Every Live Stream There’s At Least 20 People Asking “wHEN iS AFriCa 2.0 cOMinG”. People Still Ask. This Thing Is, The Devs Have Said That They’re Willing To Add LEGALLY Huntable Species Like Elephants And Rhinos (Despite Them Being Controversial). I Do Not Want Tigers In Game Because They Are Highly Endangered In Any Country Where Hunting Is Legal (AKA Nepal, Russia, And Indonesia), And Therefore Should Not Be Hunted.

# idle monolith If you watch the streams idk if you do. you’ll see that Jaxy is saying less and...

It’s not a case of less and less for Africa specifically.

More that less people are using the feedback area. Look at the old posts from last year with 180+ upvotes. You just don’t really get this numbers anymore on any post.

On top of that a lot of players from North America each want their individual state to become a map because it’s where they live, and don’t upvote other suggestions in the hope that their state will be the next one to appear in game. This is unfortunate

There’s absolutely more aperture for it though outside the discord. On Reddit my Zim suggestion has reached 65 in less than 24H

Nepal has been dicussing a very limited tiger hunting permit for millions of dollars to go towards more conservation efforts. I believe they have nearly tripled their tiger population. In the last 10-15 years. Maybe have a million dollar tag for one in game and have a limited population. Can see them on the map and they can and will attack but are not a valid target if you dont have the tag. Make their senses the best in the game and hardest to hunt. Very long shot and probably not realistic but fun to talk about.

# sudden storm Nepal has been dicussing a very limited tiger hunting permit for millions of dol...

They will not be added to my species list since it is only a proposal

But I did read about it before and parts of the proposal (like killing multiple tigers in one hunt) seems iffy and the potential effects of killing a dominant male could make things worse

Its part of why some African countries have rules where your only allowed to shoot male lions if they either have no pride or no dependent cubs

Some Potential Side Mission Ideas for this Reserve

Mountain Hunter: Many hunters come to Nepal seeking Bharal and Tahr and must often take longer shots, lets see if you have what it takes

  • Hunt 1 Gold Medal Himalayan Bharal from 250 meters or more with a rifle
  • Hunt 1 Gold Medal Himalayan Tahr from 250 meters or more with a rifle
  • Hunt 1 Gold Medal Himalayan Goral from 250 meters or more with a rifle

Danger in the Woods: Bears and Leopards are a continous threat to the local people either by destorying crops, eating livestock or killing people, take a few of the predators out if you can, and to make it more interesting, use different weapons for each one

  • Take an Indian Leopard with a Shotgun
  • Take a second Leopard with a Handgun
  • Take a third Leopard with a Rifle at night
  • Take a Sloth Bear with a Handgun
  • Take another Sloth Bear with a Bow
  • Take a final Sloth Bear with a Rifle under 50 meters
  • Take a Himalayan Black Bear with a Bow
  • Take a second Black Bear from over 200 meters with a Rifle
  • Take a final Black Bear with a Handgun

Crop Raiders: Animals like Wild Boar, Macaques, Axis Deer and Nilgai are all notorious crop raiders and probably cause more trouble for the villages then the bears and big cats, take as many out as you can

  • Hunt 20 Rhesus Macaques with a Shotgun
  • Hunt 15 Indian Wild Boar with a Handgun
  • Hunt 15 Axis Deer with a Bow
  • Hunt 10 Indian Nilgai with a Rifle

Upland Collector: This reserve is home to a wide variety of upland birds, and while you might get away with shooting flying with a semi-automatic 22 on other reserves, for this task you must use a Shotgun with Birdshot

  • Hunt 1 Male & 1 Female of the following species: Indian Peafowl, Cheer Pheasant, Kalij Pheasant
  • Hunt 3 of the following: Red Junglefowl, Tibetan Snowcock, Common Snipe
  • Hunt 5 of the following: Chukar, Black Francolin, Green Pigeon, Snow Pigeon
  • Hunt 10 of the following: Common Quail, Turtle Dove

I live in Ireland and we have more or less the same species as the uk and if it was a uk or Ireland map I would be soo sooo sooo disappointed

Plus, UK wouldn't have such species for Jaxy to say "The species you get to hunt will blow your minds"

Now, what they can do, is release this big map, and start working on another big map for June 2025 and make UK be the December 2024 map like NEM was before Australia

#

It would certainly be great to have another location like the ones you mention, I also prefer any of them to having another map of Europe, however there are no signs or clues pointing towards them, other than the Muntjac or the random Facebook post about the hot air balloon...
UK is a possibility, in my opinion it is the most probable, not only because of the survey (which already got 3 maps right in a row) but because it has a great history related to hunting, it is easy to include another GO and carry out the much requested Rework of the remaining European species that have been requested so much.
Oh and also has a Muntjac, although of a different species than the one mentioned xD

#

They can also add European mount taxidermy and Wildboar's GO (Possibly like the one in the free lodge photo)..
They can cover many updates with a single map and if we think about the delay time to release the map it adds a little more credibility.

red flicker
#

Well I suppose my thoughts on a UK map are correct

In the fact that it would just be a European version of New England Mountains in the fact that it might come with 1 or 2 new species (aka a filler map)

Alongside a massive update since you mentioned things like a rework of several species, Euro Mounts for the Trophy Lodges and a possible new Great One

Though they could add a Wild Boar Great One with a map set in Asia given how they live from Spain & Morocco to Malaysia & Japan

burnt root
#

UK would make for an interesting mid-term map choice however even as someone here it wouldn't be my first choice of map! an ideal map for when the game is starting to wind down (so in 1-2 years) after this upcoming map africa 2.0 and artic canada lmo.

I really hope it’s this exact map we are getting for the next DLC. It seems the most likely from what little info we have so far.

Another weapon that would suit the small game hunting on this reserve would be a nice 12 Gauge Double Barrel, I know we have a 20 Gauge Double Barrel but a 12 Gauge, especially with customizable engravings would fit the reserve nicely, plus load it up with some slugs and you could potentially fend of a sloth bear

Well, with this pretty much being on the horizon, I can’t wait for not only the species but also the music and sound design. I have no doubt it will be absolutely beautiful, the howl of the strong winds on the snow topped peaks, trickling streams and beautiful autumn leaves.

With Sundarpatan sounding so similar to Dhorpatan, currently Nepals sole hunting reserve the next DLC has definitely got to be set there. The map we truely never knew we needed, I’m pretty excited for it.

Let's be honest even if we didn't get Tigers it's not going to be the end of the world it can be an awesome map regardless. But another thing if we get Tigers it's not going to be the end of the world just because they're not legal I am the type of person who likes to follow legality and making sure thst there aren't illegal animals but tbh I just think even having 1 or 2 illegal animals is fine it's a game not a simulation and for all we know those illegal species could make a massive difference on how a fun a map could be

I really think that rhododendrons being the national flower of Nepal is the most significant clue we have with regards to where the new map is drawing its inspiration from. And I couldn't me more excited if we're on the right track.

Since it is looking like we are getting tigers, I’d like to propose a multimount: Deadly tussle: 1 Sloth Bear (M/F) 1 Bengal Tiger (M/F)

A few more Tiger based multimounts

The Kol-Bahl: 1 Male Indian Jackal & 1 Male Bengal Tiger

The King & The Bull: 1 Male Bengal Tiger & 1 Indian Nilgai Bull

Royalty: 1 Male & 1 Female Bengal Tiger

Expensive Taste: 1 Female Bengal Tiger & 1 Indian Peafowl (Male)

I will share my thoughts here on what species I would love to have seen included

Including the unidentified geese from the teaser, I counted 10 species so far

So far it's Bengal Tiger, Snow Leopard, Northern Red Muntjac, Barasingha, Wild Yak, Water Buffalo, Tibetan Fox, Goose species, Blue Sheep. Himalayan Tahr, Nilgai

feral lotus

Also the Nilgai is confirmed now as well

So far only water buffaloes are a repeat, and maybe the goose if it is, in fact, a graylag as some have suggested

graceful epoch
#

I forgot about the Nilgai, and it's the one I wanted the most lmao

torn tinsel
#

There will probably be axis deer

simple magnet
#

more likely blackbuck. They have mentioned that they're being reworked and their populations reset (as well as the water buffaloes). If so, that means of 13 species, only 2-3 will be returning and all the rest are new!

fast pilot
#

I’m thinking it’s the following:

  1. Bengal Tiger
  2. Snow Leopard
  3. Water Buffalo
  4. Yak
  5. Nilgai
  6. Himalayan Thar
  7. Blackbuck
  8. Bharal
  9. Barasigha
  10. Red Muntjac
  11. Tibetan Fox
  12. Indian Hare
  13. Bar-headed Goose
#

Only 13 species on this map so sambar, axis deer and hog deer didn’t make the cut for whatever reason (would have been an easy one for an even more diverse map).

#

Also it looks like Indian leopard, Himalayan black bear and the sloth bear will not be making an appearance 🥲

red flicker
#

I guess I will make my list of species I wish also came with the reserve next week

Controversial take by me, the species list is mid.

It's kinda unfortunate thet we're only getting 13 species and not 20 or something like Revontuli Coast managed to achieve plus you could've added some species that are already in game to the map looking forward to it but still I think they missed some opportunities

simple magnet
#

I think the reason that RC was able to get 20 species is that most are birds (less strain on the engine). I think it is great that we at most have only 3 returning species and everything else is new.

tawny ether

I don't disagree, but if the choice is add 3 deer species we have on other maps OR have 3 new species, I'll take the new ones and go hunt the deer elsewhere.

red flicker
#

Well, seeing as how the 10th new species is Wooly Hare and that goose is the Greylag, here is a list of 7 species I would like to have seen also included on

Himalayan Black Bear (Class 7): They could serve as the dangerous carnivoran for the mountains and temperate forest areas
Himalayan Serow (Class 4): Since snow leopards and blackbucks made it on a reserve set in Nepal, I can't see why these Asiatic relatives of the American Mountain Goat couldn't
Indian Hog Deer: We should have gotten at least on of the 3 "Indian" deer species from Emerald since they alongside Axis & Sambar Deer all come from the Indian Subcontinent
Rhesus Macaque (Class 2): I would like to have seen some more unqiue small game alongside the Tibetan Fox and Muntjac
Ruddy Shelduck: I would like to have seen a new waterfowl species on this map
Chukar: A new upland bird would have been nice, and these could serve as a backfill for Silver Ridge Peaks
Indian Peafowl: A new and very colourful upland bird, need I say more

fast pilot
#

I really wish all the South Asian deer species had made it in. I’m sure there are some engine limitations that don’t allow them to have so many large game species present on the same map but they really would have fit right in on this reserve. Also the lack of game birds is really disappointing. I really like your additions but backfilling seems to be a thing of the past so I’m not counting on seeing them in the future.

hallow sorrel
fast pilot
#

Yeah that seems to be the main issue, I think EW have said in the past it is a very long and tedious job to adjust animal ranges to fit extra species in which is why they tend to avoid it where possible. Too much work for very little return. I still think more species on a map can only be a benefit, though I suppose with more different species present, the populations of all animals would have to be decreased to account for them which many people wouldn’t like.

red flicker
#

Or if the maps were much bigger, therefore more space

fast pilot
#

This would be my preference, larger maps with more species. I have zero problems with repeats as long as they make sense on the map.

#

I do remember quite a few people complained about the 120 km2 maps in Way of the Hunter being too large. They seem to have dropped their map sizes down similar to CotWs 64 km2 in their recent DLCs.

hallow sorrel

# fast pilot This would be my preference, larger maps with more species. I have zero problems...

Something like 121-144km2 would be amazing plus maybe 20 and more species on a map especially if they're starting to cover locations with alot of species for example Nepal they very easily could've made a species list with 20 species and they wouldn't have even needed to make new models for some species I would've been so happy with Blackbuck, Sambar Deer, Hog Deer and Axis Deer on that map because let's be honest they need more maps

I'm still sad that we didn't get Sloth Bears or the Himalayan Black Bears, both of them would have made for very interesting animals to hunt

At least EW had a reasonably solid explanation for why we get to hunt tigers on the map

And with it being set in Nepal, a country with a real life hunting reserve|| (that was nicely referenced in the missions)||, it seems to me that while the doors are open for some protected species to be included
Future reserves seem like they will still be set in areas that allow sport hunting (which means the Brazilian Amazon and China seem very unlikely in my opinion)

tawny ether
#

Well I have to say Sundarpatan opens up many opportunities from what we have received by EW it seems that there may be more Reserves with endangered or illegal species but in a location where hunting is allowed

#

But I'm glad we got our 1st or 2nd Asian map depending on who you ask and I'm hoping we'll get maps set in the Caucasus, Middleeast, Central Asia, North Asia ( Mongolia and Russia ) and maybe something like Japan too

The wiki and game also consider European (Iberian) Mouflon to still be the same species as the Mouflon of Turkey and Iran

European Mouflon are technically a subspecies of Domestic Sheep hence the correct trinomial name is Ovis aries musimon

Its backed up by genetics and an absence of mouflon bones on Sardinia and Corsica thats older then 7000 years old, which means they may represent what domestic sheep in the Neolithic look like

Don’t get me wrong the European Mouflon are still wild animals, they had 7000 years to go wild again

I also think the Himalayan subspecies is the only one we are getting

If we get another Asian Reserve it’s likely it will either be in
• Mongolia
• Central Asia
• The Caucasus Mountains
• Japan
• Maybe the Middle East or Malaysia

Can still get a fair few species in all of them and if a Central Asian map is based on most of the countries that allow hunting there that means there is potential to have Marco Polo Sheep (Kyrgyzstan & Tajikistan) and Saiga Antelope (Kazakhstan) on one map

So many maps I want but I fear we may not get an awful lot we are currently at 15 maps and unfortunately I don't see EW making more than 5-10 maps 10 I would be OK with but 5 is abit lacking with all of the locations we could get

If I could pick only 10 maps they would be

● Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak Archipelago, Alaska, USA
● British Columbia & Alberta, Canada
● Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory, Canada
● Africa 2.0 ( Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe etc )
● Africa 3.0 Cameroon
● Africa 4.0 Ethiopia
● Sweden & Norway
● Mongolia
● Japan
● Kazakhstan or Central Asia
