M39 emr would be a nice addition to this game or even the M14

brazen osprey

It is a military caliber weapon, not a hunting weapon

.308 is already in the game, so the caliber itself doesn't need to be added either

The M14 and M39 feel wrong to me, at least, especially the M39. Tactical stylings seem wrong for a hunting game, and we already have AR-15s for the ones commonly used in hunting

There’s also a multitude of straight weapons of war,M1 Garande, Lee Enfield,Mosin,Trench Gun(somewhat),Hawken Muzzleloader.

With most of those, the point I think is obsolescence; these were once weapons of war but they are no longer that and would not fair well if used as such. The AR-15 is the big exception because it's commonly owned in the US and Canada for practical and political purposes, but adding anything else seems like playing Battlefield 4 in theHunter

If I'm not mistaken, the .308 is the standard for civilian and hunting weapons and 7.62x51 NATO is the standard for weapons for military use.
They are the same caliber but only the composition of the cartridge changes to withstand greater pressure in the military caliber.

7.62x39 weapons, not x51

They only change the composition of the cartridges for the length of the barrels to differentiate those of military calibers for legal reasons and traffic control but basically they are all the same caliber and projectile size xD
I think the 7.62x39 would be the current Zarza .308 🤔

7.62x51 is 308, 7.62x39 is AK-47 caliber

Both are .308 calibers, only the characteristics of the cartridge change.
https://ammo.com/comparison/762x39-vs-308#:~:text=The 7.62x39 does not,…but they don't!

But the important thing is that there are no weapons designed to use 7.62x51 nato because that ballistics is reserved for military use and is not accessible (in a simple way) or intended for civilian use.
That is why hunting rifles use 7.62x39 or .308 cartridges that are for civilian use and access.

Even if it's chamber in 308, it be another nice edition with the S. K s possibly a few more other militarized style rifles meaning modern rifles two It also could possibly add nvgs on a head lamp strap

Adding The M39 Ebr and other modern rifles 2

The Garand has long been phased out of military use, while the M39 EMR is still actively used in military roles. My question is would you hunt deer with a Barrett .50? For many of us using modern military rifles feels wrong in a hunting game, ridiculously overkill and potentially unethical. The principle of fair chase is dashed if you use a machine gun to hunt deer, which is something Archduke Franz Ferdinand did, but not any ethical hunter, except maybe invasive species management.

The AR-15 is an exception, but it's tailored for civilian use. Semi-auto rifles had been in the market for decades before the AR-15 entered it, and people liked the design in the end due to its functionality and customization.

#

Theoretically you could add modern military rifles to a hunting game, but I don't think EW will do that, as they have no interest in showing unethical hunting if they can help it, which means no exotic animals to hunt like tigers and rhinos or inappropriate weapons.

Nobody would hunt a deer with a .50 BMG,Giraffes and Hippos on the other hand have a tendency of not dying with a single shot,Especially Giraffe have a tendency of falling over then getting back up to run but before then you’d want to swiftly put a shot into the chest cavity, before they run off surviving for who knows how long,a .50 BMG cancels that out because of the sheer force of that round.

#

And quite frankly,I’d probably use a .50 BMG on Cape buffalo too if I had the chance.

They may be legal to hunt, but EW is not keen on supporting exotic hunting of animals like rhinos, hippos, elephants, and the like, at least from what I've seen. Whether or not something is legal doesn't really mean its moral or ethical

You know the image of the rich douchebag hunter who thinks killing elephants makes him a man? I think EW is trying to avoid that image

Why infact, hunting is the reason we can see these species to this day, hunting creates genetic diversity, this has saved multiple beautiful species(Ex.Aoudad,Southern White Rhinoceros,Markor,Arabian Scimitar Horned Oryx).

#

Sure,I can see EW not wanting Tigers,Snow Leopards,Malayan Rhinoceros,or just animals that aren’t legal game animals in the modern day,but animals which are completely within good morals and legal to hunt…

leaden thistle
#

That is absolutely true, but in the eyes of the much public, paying to shoot an elephant is a selfish act made by an insecure lout, no matter what good the money does or how legal it is. My point is EW does not wish to support or depict such hunting in their game, not defending or criticizing that decision or that hunting.

As far as I know, EW considers the hunting of elephants, giraffes, and other animals like them unethical even when it is legal.

There’s also the fact that Elephants are not on the same level as Hippopotamus in the public’s eye,In general people are way more open to Hippopotamuses hunting because they know the impact of a boat load of hippos walking around, the cemetery business would be booming, since everyone has been fed this story that Elephants are teetering and tottering on the brink of extinction for so long, people don’t think it’s right, the same applies to Polar Bears to a lesser Extent.

They have a higher population than Polar Bears,Lions,Hippopotamus,Rhinoceros(southern white rhino, the huntable species) combined and then some.I’ve known their stance, hence why I’m not asking for Tigers and Muskox on Medved, and looking at the Facts it makes no sense.

numbers aren't everything here. If threats to the species are active, those numbers can be whittled quickly without intervention. If elephants were put on open season, their numbers would dwindle and disappear in many places as people kill them for ivory to sell in black markets or to allow for increased cultivation and grazing of land.

IUCN status changes are a long process though, so elephants very well may be on the way to vulnerable status. 400,000+ is still a mere percentage of the elephants alive 50 years ago though.

Even with that, how would you add elephants to the game? They are so much bigger than the largest buffalo you can hunt, would EW even want to implement them?

tepid delta
leaden thistle
#

Eh, personally I don't give a damn whether they put elephants in the game or not, EW has way bigger things to worry about than creating yet another exotic safari hunting experience

tepid delta
#

There’s also the fact that 95% of the cotw player base can’t afford a double rifle, the rounds for that Double Rifle, plane tickets out of the country, and they most definitely can’t afford to even look in the direction of a poachers ivory, they’d forget that you NEED a boma around your campsite to survive out there.

leaden thistle
#

There are plenty of hunting games set in Africa where you hunt lions and leopard and rhinos and elephants, oh my! If COTW did it, it would be fun, but I have personal gripes with the concept and evidently so does EW. I'm perfectly happy with the lions in game right now.
I have no interest in hunting in Africa IRL, I won't think about doing so unless I live there and I'm never going to target anything like an elephant or lion if I can help it.
For all the money they bring to African conservation, African big game hunting feels too much like an ego-quest for the rich, insecure, and potentially psychopathic for me to approve of it 100%, and there's both lack of those funds flowing in the right places and greater resistance in Africa to this sort of hunting that muddies it all.

#

Also in many countries big game hunting just doesn't seem to be working for conservation as much as it should, lion populations in places like Botswana and other African countries are declining despite/because of the safari hunting business not properly protecting lion habitats, though I can't say too much on the topic
