I know it's been suggested before but from the few suggestions I read they did not seem to flesh the idea out besides "horse will be quieter pls add it"
So I'll start off by listing the Pros and Cons of the horse.
Pros
- Animals will spook at the horse at a similar distance they would spook as if it was just a hunter
- Horse's are not loud machines so your ears don't have to listen to motor noises.
- Saddlebags/packroll can be purchased and equipped on the horse for extra storage space. (Enough for 1 or 2 gun(s) and a tent) You would have to access the horse's inventory and swap out these items with your player's currently equipped ones to use.
- Multiple color variations like the dogs have so your horse will feel uniquely yours.
- Can shoot off the back of your horse. (May risk spooking it without upgraded perks)
- Can bond with your horse and give it perks like you can with dogs.
- Same speed as ATV when at a gallop.
- Multiple gaits (walk/trot/canter/gallop) All of which are a quicker pace than the hunters base speed.
Cons - Horses have limited stamina, they can run full speed for ~1 minute before needing to slow to a canter.
- After being ridden for a while ~30 real-time minutes, the horse will become tired. Which will mean it needs to be stabled to regain its energy.
- Predator animals (Bear, wolf, big cats) may spook your horse if within ~200m, a spooked horse will run a short distance before ejecting the rider, the horse will stop after the rider falls but will not be able to be remounted for a few seconds. (Certain perks would make spooking less likely.)
- Horses will not follow you like dogs do, instead they remain where you dismount.
As it currently sits the ATV is really only useful for finding your outposts since animals spook as soon as they render so they aren't really a hunting tool IMO, the horse would both be good transportation and a hunting buddy. A good breed would be the Rocky Mountain Horse. Known for calm temper and surefootedness.
