I guess but hitting all vitals doesn’t necessarily mean that the animal will be easy to kill with a smaller caliber, when I think of using different calibers I usually think about how big the animal is.

The Tibet map is dlc,so really it’s optional whether or not you hunt them, and the namesake is based on the amount of maneater stories there were during the time,Mysore Bear, Kesagake,Tsavo Maneaters, Demon of Champawat, etc There’s also Bengal Tiger,Grizzly Bear,Lion,Nile Crocodile,African and Indian Leopard, eventually Polar Bear,Saltwater Crocodiles so it will have its fair share of Maneaters.

Fair enough

I should have some ideas typed out soon, including
• Polar Bear focused area in Western Alaska
• Saltwater Crocodile focused area in Southeast Asia (May also have Tigers and Komodos)
• Jaguar area in Colombia with Caiman, Crocodile, Anaconda and Feral Water Buffalo
• An Indochinese area featuring Tigers and the Kouprey (a relative of the Gaur and Banteng)

I like the idea of a hunting game set in a time when you could hunt animals like tigers

Northwestern Alaska

Welcome to the Western Arctic Region of Alaska hunter, I have heard of your skills and believe you won’t feel to out of place here in the Last American Frontier. We still have great herds of caribou and muskox roaming the tundra while the Dall’s sheep bash heads with their rivals up in the mountains and the mighty Yukon Moose spend their days feasting in the wetlands. A visit to the coast will also bring you close to the Pacific Walrus and other pinnipeds along with some of the best sea duck hunting in the world. Of course, your skills as one who hunts man-eaters will come in handy and not because of the wolves and wolverines but the 2 great bears of the region: the Grizzly Bear and the Polar Bear; both bear species have killed people and I fear some of them have turned man-eater, so you might as well keep your head on a swivel as those bears are just as stealthy as any big cat when they are on the hunt

Big Game Species

  • Pacific Walrus – Class 9
  • Polar Bear – Class 9
  • Yukon Moose – Class 8
  • Muskoxen – Class 8
  • Grizzly Bear – Class 7
  • Barren-ground Caribou – Class 6

Colombia

Welcome to South America my friend, while this may not be Africa or Asia, I imagine hunting here won’t be any different, especially if the Jaguar is your quarry. Jaguars have killed and eaten people in the past, but they are far from the only species to do so as Black Caiman and Green Anacondas have eaten people themselves. Of course, not all is bad as we have some fantastic hunting for other species from the heavy-set Lowland Tapir to the familiar but smaller South American White-tailed Deer and a good variety of waterfowl, you might even recognize the Feral Water Buffalo from villages in Asia, these ones have far shorter horns then their wild relatives but can still use them effectively so try not to anger them.

Big Game Species

  • Feral Water Buffalo – Class 9
    • These buffalo are based on the Murrah Buffalo, meaning they have shorter horns
  • Lowland Tapir – Class 8
  • Jaguar – Class 7
  • Black Caiman – Class 7
  • Green Anaconda – Class 5
  • Puma – Class 5
  • White-lipped Peccary – Class 4
  • Spectacled Caiman – Class 4
  • Capybara – Class 3/4
  • South American White-tailed Deer – Class 3
  • Giant Anteater – Class 3

Small Game

  • Green Iguana – Class 2
  • Red Brocket Deer – Class 2
  • Colombian Red Howler - Class 2
  • Brazilian Porcupine – Class 2
  • Ocelot – Class 2
  • Black Agouti
  • Red Acouchi
  • 9-banded Armadillo

Birds

  • Orinoco Goose
  • Muscovy Duck
  • Black Curassow
  • Spix’s Guan
  • Crested Bobwhite

No idea how I never noticed this thread in the past, I had some cool concepts for French Indochina and the Dutch East Indies reserves which sadly I seem to have lost, good thing MooseDragon shared his own amazing concepts of these locations.

A New Zealand reserve set between the 1920s to 1950s would be cool. This is generally considered the golden age of hunting here.

#

Chital may not be fitting as they were never a common species even when they were first introduced and were culled out by the 1920s. Moose were never very common either though they stuck around quite a bit longer than the chital, they’d be a cool addition and I’d be happy seeing them on a NZ map.

leaden chasm

#

Definitely, kinda weird how the whole world seemed to line up in that regard.

#

I would have thought less so for North America during this period due to the low numbers of game animals due to commercial hunting in the late 19th C. though I’m not sure how many years it took for animal populations to bounce back.

True, commercial hunting had ended by this time and I think with less animals to compete with the animals could get pretty big.

@polar spindle let me know what you think FYI I spent 4hrs on this

polar spindle
worn brook
#

Really just goes to show truly how many species there are in China alone

jolly robin
#

I feel China could be broken up into several maps too being so diverse, it would be a cool location. As for Europe I think a Scottish deerstalking map would fit the theme very well.

worn brook
jolly robin
#

It really could, all these environments are very unique from each other too with several differing cultures. I’d love to see it faithfully represented in a game of this type. Well researched species list by the way, loads of cool animals here 👍

#

I’d personally be down for pheasant shooting on a vintage China map, the bird shooting looks great here.

worn brook
worn brook
jolly robin
#

I’m the other way around, I focus way too much on researching different species and biomes when I’m sure I have better uses for my time. I’ve checked out quite a few of the birds on this map, they’re are too many great looking choices that it would be difficult to narrow it down for a single map.

worn brook
#

Could you imagine the size of the map to fit all of those species and imagine the bugs and lag

Also I meant I spent 4hrs on the species list I do a mixture of both

jolly robin
#

I think that if this concept became a stand alone game they should also lean into “natural philosophy” as well as trophy hunting in what would later be the golden age of hunting. Natural philosophy is a kind of outdated term for the study of all the natural world and included aspects of early zoology and botany etc.

#

Hunting was extremely common practice in science at the time to collect species for further study, I think this would be really interesting to explore in the game. It would be great on a map set in China especially as there are so many unique birds. You could be tasked to hunt and collect several different birds to aid a scientific voyage in documenting what would yet be lesser known or even undiscovered species for some of the missions in the game.

worn brook
#

That'd be cool for stories and such maybe even some mission animals

polar spindle
#

I would hope they take a bit more of a “darker” theme with the usage of NPC’s.

polar spindle
#

Well perhaps on the India map, you would take a group of people on a bear hunt, something feels off, a bear strikes… and then another, a pair (this is a rare occurrence)

worn brook
#

I doubt EW would want to do something like that

worn brook
#

@polar spindle we have to talk about this there's no avoiding it we gotta talk about lodges what style what size if we have this game we gonna need some lodges Museums would work but I'd definitely like to see other things

Ps. I see alot of the animals on Tanzania are also found in South Africa but mosty in "Southern" sub-species compared to Tanzanian "Eastern" subspecies (i.e East African Greater Kudu and Southern Greater Kudu)

The late Joseon period Korean Peninsula would make an incredibly interesting map. They had a very surprising diversity of wildlife in the past.

I should note that Baekdusan is found on the far northern border with China rather than Southern Korea, as in your title.

Manchurian wapiti are still found in Baekdudaegan to this day, but during this period also ranged as far south as Gariwangsan, Gangwon-do in modern day South Korea if a Southern Korean setting is preferred.

Siberian roe deer are also very prominent across Korea and would fit well into this concept I believe.

#

The Joseon military also had an entire branch that specialised in hunting tigers, known as the Chakhogapsa. It would be cool to see them make an appearance on such a map.
