With the introduction of the Labrador Retriever, there is still at least one style of dog the game could use. Looking back toward Classic, it is an obvious choice. We need a dog that not only finds prey. But, flushes them as needed. We need the German Shorthaired Pointer.
Having experienced Hunting Simulator 2's version of the GSP (German Shorthaired Pointer), and Classic's version of the venerable hound, I believe the best choice is to combine both game's systems into one context-sensitive wheel. We know from the dogs in-game now that the wheel is context-sensitive already (to what degree, we don't know), and that lends itself to the image below for a GSP addon and what that might look like in-game with traits and the context-sensitive wheels.
A lot of this is converted from Classic, making sure that need-not-apply traits are removed. With that, we have traits that players are more likely to choose, depending on what kind of dog they want on their hunt. All the traits feel worthwhile but may be fleshed out into something more if needed.
Why this dog is needed:
- Having a dog to help new and old players find and spot elusive prey like hares/rabbits or upland game birds.
- Having a dog who will alert the player sooner of critical position moments where animals might flee, especially while tracking.
- Having a dog who can flush Class 1 animals when you are ready to take the shot. Notable for upland game birds as points are only awarded when they are airborne (No more running at the bird and jumping to make it fly).
- Having a dog who will track most animals and point right at them (This helps new players especially as they might not understand tracking at first).
- Having another reason when hunting with friends to have different types of dogs out (GSP's flushing and retriever's retrieving).
