Welcome to West Africa, after a two decade-long poaching epidemic fuelled by civil conflicts and the bushmeat market the new warden of this reserve is determined to turn things around. From the arid Sahalian Acacia to the Guinean Mangroves many hunting opportunities exist and even rarer species like Lion and Bongo exist here, but with rare species comes poachers and the warden is paying good money to destroy any trap you find. Armed with new weapons like the 375 Magnum Bolt-action and the 50 AE Semi-auto Pistol, you will be ready for anything

(Details not included due to character limit)

Rare Species: Several species on this reserve have a widespread distribution but are not particularly common. On this reserve there are 5 rare species. This does not mean the animal is endangered, it just means they are not common on the reserve and this is explained in more detail with the reserve’s story

Forest/Forest Mosaic

  • Lowland Bongo - Class 8
  • Giant Forest Hog - Class 6 or 7 (not fully decided)
    Savannah/Sahel Zone
  • Sing-sing Waterbuck - Class 6
  • West African Lion - Class 9
    Rivers/Mangroves
  • Hippopotamus - Class 10 (New Weapon Class)

New Weapons

  • 375 Magnum Bolt-action - Class 7 to 10
  • 50 AE Semi-auto Pistol - Class 6 to 10
  • CB-175 Recurve Crossbow
  • 10 Gauge Over/Under Shotgun
#

Species that are widespread across almost every biome are generally adaptable and these include
• West African Buffalo
• Harnessed Bushbuck
• Warthog
• Olive Baboon
• African Civet
• Helmeted Guineafowl

#

Animals more typically found in the Sudanian Savannah (and Sahelian Acacia include:
• African Lion
• Sing-sing Waterbuck
• Roan Antelope
• Western Hartebeest
• Spotted Hyena
• Patas Monkey
• Denham’s Bustard
• Double spurred Francolin

Species only found in the Sahel include
• Red-fronted Gazelle
• Double-banded Sandgrouse

#

The Sudanian Savannah (first) and Sahelian Acacia (second image)
The Sahel is the more arid biome

#

As for the Rainforest and the Forest-Savannah Mosaic, the species found there include
Red River Hog
Yellow-backed Duiker
Zebra Duiker
Crested Porcupine
Greater Cane Rat (I chose that image to show how big they are)
African Blue Quail
Green Pigeon
Lowland Bongo
Giant Forest Hog

#

As for the aforementioned biomes: First Image is the Forest-savannah mosaic and the second image is the Rainforest

#

And for the final 2 biomes: The Rivers and the Mangroves, which are home to Hippos (rare), West African Crocodiles and the following bird species
• Spur-winged Goose
• African Pygmy Goose
• White-faced Whistling Duck
• Hartlaub’s Duck
• Greater Painted Snipe

I think this would be one of the best African reserves EW can do next,it’s got a great roster but also not a ton of effort needed.

arctic atlas
arctic atlas
#

Also just forgot: The Recurve Crossbow (the one currently in the game is a Compound Crossbow)

#

Now I think about it, this reserve and #1070045518002147458 each have a unique crossbow, some sort of 10 gauge shotgun and a big rifle (375 Magnum here, 454 Lever-action over in the Arctic)

arctic atlas
#

For traps that you have to destroy there are 2 types: Snares and Gin Traps. Snares are harder to see but to make it easier you will see a bundle of wire by the snare. Gin traps are easier to see (Bottom of the image). For side missions you will have to remove a number of snares and gin traps in each region of the reserve and to reward your efforts these side missions should have a high payout

arctic atlas
arctic atlas
#

I will come up with missions that involve hunting soon, just know that one of the missions will involve the hunting of Cane Rats

prime scaffold
#

Any African map with the Red River Hog is an instant win for me

#

love the different biomes too, there's some really nice diversity on the animal roster too

arctic atlas
arctic atlas
#

Now for the West African Buffalo, the red coloured animals would make sense, and there could also be several shades of brown, grey and even black coloured buffalo (Alongside the typical leusistic and albinos a lot). And while their horns are not as big as the Cape Buffalo they are no less dangerous

arctic atlas
#

Besides the West African Buffalo, another ungulate that hunters shouldn't underestimate is the Lowland Bongo. While it is certainly rarer then the more common Harnessed Bushbuck (being a Rare Species does that) and more restricted to the rainforest areas, they can turn aggressive. And since I mentioned Bushbucks, don't corner a bushbuck ram: they have been known to kill leopards and hunting dogs

prime scaffold
#

You have a lot of species on this map that can go aggressive, that combined with the diversity of biomes really reminds me of Emerald Coast.

arctic atlas
# prime scaffold You have a lot of species on this map that can go aggressive, that combined with...

For Aggressive Species here is the list

  • Very Aggressive (Predatory/Territorial)
  • African Lion
  • West African Buffalo
  • Hippopotamus (The most dangerous animal on the reserve, thankfully rare)
  • Spotted Hyena
  • Somewhat Aggressive (Get too close)
  • Olive Baboons (Males only, they protect their groups)
  • Giant Forest Hog
  • West African Crocodile
  • Rarely Aggressive (They would rather run from you if they can)
  • Harnessed Bushbuck (Males only, they have the horns)
  • Lowland Bongo
  • Red River Hog & Warthog
#

Everything else isn't going to attack the hunter (Though it would be funny to see a player get chased by a cane rat)

arctic atlas

The Upland Birds: Guineafowl and Bustard can be shot while on the ground. The Snipes, Quails, Green Pigeons, Sandgrouse and Francolin must be shot while flying and the snipes will be the toughest bird to hit

Duikers: While West Africa has many species, I only chose the Zebra Duiker and Yellow-backed Duikers, and why those 2: For the Zebra Duiker it just looks different from similar sized duikers. For the Yellow-backed Duiker, well they stand out based on their size as one of the 3 Giant Duikers (And a species that could have made it to my #1099469747323670729 reserve given their distribution) and would require buckshot, arrow, bolt or class 3 handgun and rifle ammo to bring down

#

Also fun fact: Duikers will occasionally eat small animals

arctic atlas
#

I do have a list of potential species I will be including later on, but I do plan on covering the rest of the species on the main list first

#

Red Fronted Gazelles: A smaller antelope found in the dry Sahel acacia that defines the northern edge of the reserve, they occasionally venture towards the wetter savannah. A vary animal that was once hunted by cheetahs and wild dogs they will run at the first sign of danger so a long range rifle like the 243 or 223 will be useful, though it can be hunted with a bow if you catch them while they drink or rest

#

Sing-sing Waterbuck: An antelope mainly found in the Sudanian Savannah biome, they occasionally inhabit the Forest-Savannah Mosaics more open areas as long as they have access to water. A type of Defassa Waterbuck, they can be distinguished from the Common Waterbuck of Southern and Eastern Africa by a lack of a white ring on their rump

#

Red River Hogs: A brightly coloured pig species found in Central and West Africa, they are a fine addition to any trophy room, and while they might inhabit the tropical forest regions that define the southern parts of the reserve, if you know how to hunt wild boar then hunting them shouldn't be an issue

#

On waterfowl hunting: Hunting along the rivers of the reserve is a good way to encounter waterfowl species like the African Pygmy Goose and White-faced Whistling Duck, so an intrepid waterfowl hunter should consider setting up near oxbow lakes and other slower parts of the rivers. Of course crocodiles will hunt these birds though they are not as worrisome as the mighty Hippopotamus

arctic atlas
#

While Lions are the apex predator of this reserve, the Spotted Hyenas are the more numerous large predator that ranges from the Sahel zone in the north to the edge of the Rainforest of the southern parts of the reserve. Their laughter is a warning.

arctic atlas
#

Also I'm not sure if anyone noticed but the handgun included on the weapons list is basically the Desert Eagle (50 AE Semi-auto, as in 50 Action Express, one of the calibres the Desert Eagle can be chambered in)

arctic atlas
#

Basically the inclusion of the Desert Eagle is for making sure the Hippos don't send your hunter to meet their ancestors

The First of several side missions

Pest Control: While many species suffered, some species had population growth and the local villages are getting fed up, so if you could help out and control their populations that would be great

  • Hunt 20 Olive Baboons with a Rifle
  • Hunt 30 Warthogs with a Shotgun
  • Hunt 20 Golden Wolves with a Shotgun
  • Hunt 30 Patas Monkeys with a Rifle
  • Hunt 20 Honey Badgers with a Handgun

Side Mission 2: Rare Species Challenge

  • You must get a gold medal animal for each of the rare species under certain conditions
  • Get a Gold Medal Lion using a Class 9 Rifle without any scopes
  • This includes the red dot sights
  • Get a Gold Medal Hippo from within 50 Meters
  • At that distance, the hippo is likely to charge at you
  • Get a Gold Medal Lowland Bongo with any Bow within 70 Meters
  • Get a Gold Medal Sing-sing Waterbuck with a Handgun at a minimum distance of 70 meters
  • Get a Gold Medal Giant Forest Hog with a Shotgun using Slugs
  • Get a Gold Medal Royal Antelope at night using a Shotgun
  • They are a Class 1 Antelope so birdshot is usable
  • This will be the toughest part, so wait near known rest zones

  • The Blue = Water
  • Green = Rainforest
  • Paler Green = Forest-Savannah Mosaic
  • Yellow = Sudanian Savannah
  • Orange = Sahelian Accaia

As for the regions, the names are placeholders

#

I do realize that the Yellow-backed Duiker can occasionally live in savannah regions, and given how the Delta region has both Forest Mosaic and Savannah, and the Basin region sits pretty close to the jungle areas, I have decided that the Yellow-backed Duiker can appear in the savannah (Yellow coloured area on the map) but about as commonly as lions can be seen on the whole reserve (Which isn't saying much seeing as how lions are one of the "Rare Species" for this reserve)

And speaking of duikers, this reserve has several species and yet I do not have a dedicated side mission for them so here is one I whipped up, and because of the nature of the mission I will say it: Buckshot needs a serious buff

  • Hunt 15 Red-flanked Duikers with a shotgun
  • Hunt 15 Bay Duikers with a shotgun
  • Hunt 15 Zebra Duikers with a shotgun
  • Hunt 5 Yellow-backed Duikers with a shotgun
#

And now that I think about it, certain trees, especially in the jungle areas should be set up so species like monkeys, green pigeons and genets can be up in the tree branches

arctic atlas
# slow ingot Needs a lord derby eland(they can be hunted outside of Cameroon as well)

Other then the Central African Republic I did hear of Senegal offering one or two tags every so often
