#Add waterfowl to Medved Tiaga

It seems silly that we can place 16 waterfowl blinds and run around with a new hunting dog built for this very purpose but there are no ducks or geese to hunt on this awesome reserve.

I'll let the experts correct me on which species are appropriate but as I understand it we already have some species that are suitable for a Siberia backfill. And I would love to see snow geese, red-breasted geese, Siberian cranes, tufted puffins and many more if they are legal for the area.

With the release of the Labrador, I hope this means that we'll see backfills of waterfowl on every map in the future.

I mean, since Medved is set in the dead of winter, there isn’t much you can add.Snow geese only live year round on an island like 10 miles off the coast of Russia and migrate over Kamchatka (not where medved is).

#

Also, the only place in the world where you can hunt puffin is Iceland.

A big part of the appeal of Medved for me is how peaceful it is. Constant honking or quacking would kill that.

The Only Snow Geese that ever visit Siberia are the ones on Wrangel Island, which is far away from whatever part of Siberia that Medved is meant to be in

Red-breasted Goose may also not be in the same part of Siberia as Medved Taiga (might also have legal protections in Russia)

Siberian Crane are critically endangered and are protected in all range states (off-limits basically)

Tufted Puffins are only found on the Pacific Coast and for all we know Medved’s northern shorelines might border a giant lake (plus, the only huntable Puffins are the Atlantic Puffin in Iceland)

The only waterfowl that could work for Medved (had it been set in the late summer/early autumn)
β€’ Taiga Bean Goose
β€’ Greater White-fronted Goose
β€’ Eurasian Wigeon
β€’ Eurasian Teal
β€’ Common Pochard
β€’ Greater Scaup

Thanks for the input, MooseDragon. I knew I could rely on the experts to provide some solid info. πŸ† πŸ˜‚
With all the considerations provided above, I still think that they could add one or two waterfowl to the map with a reasonably 'believable' backstory. I've always seen these reserves as fantasy with a degree of realism to keep the immersive experience sort of believable, as we've seen with previous maps. I think the vast majority of players will not be too worried if a few flocks of snow goose 'veered' off course or some Eurasian teals were a little 'late in the season'.
As for noise, I agree, some areas of Medved are really lovely and quiet but perhaps the home ranges could be fairly small like the magpie geese on EC.

I just wonder how are they gonna make waterfowl work on Medved if there is no liquid water on the map lol

But I'm thinking it could be like the Canada geese on Hirsch which don't swim.

tbh its kinda crime they didnt addd puffins to NEM reserve - like they had the white mountains why not add acadia

naive notch
#

they i know this is everyones argument but - they added lions

frail ingot
naive notch
#

From my research thats incorrect - its seems they are illegal to hunt unless its for the benefit of lions in gerneral - like a lion infestation - i might be wrong idk - even so it isnt very ethical to hunt them

naive notch
#

discount african hunts - dangerous game hunts - seems a bit illegal idk man

frail ingot
naive notch
#

nvm you seem to be righty

it doesnt make it moral - lions are vunerablelel- puffins are vunerable - puffins are even decentl stable in some parts of the world

ok I concede once again

This is every country (that shows me lion hunting is legal, which almost perfectly coincides with every country in Africa you can hunt in)
South Africa
Tanzania
Namibia
Zimbabwe
Cameroon
Mozambique
Zambia
Botswana

naive notch
#

maybe there is a legal difference - but I think puffins are more ethical to hunt and the addition of a acadia type coast and at least visual puffins would be nice for a map in new england - even if they arent huntable

frail ingot
#

Lions are perfectly stable as well.Puffins are under the migratory bird act, that is why it’s illegal to hunt them, not because of their status.

naive notch
#

okay fine i was wrong about all the legality and stability part - but my curren point is I would at least have liked to see some refrences to acadia and the ability to at least look at puffins

It doesn't have to be puffins. Just add something! πŸ˜‚
I don't care what backstory is required to make it happen. I'm voting for snow geese if the next map is Canada.

"After a raging blizzard, in some unusual weather activity, snow geese are veered off their usual trajectory and arrive on shores of Medved Tiaga..."

Behold...

πŸ˜‚ I had to.

That outta be quite the snow storm! Diverting off course nearly 2000 miles!

Taiga Bean Goose would still be a better choice, it is literally taking the Tundra Bean Goose from Revontouli and changing their name

Concept feeding ranges for whichever species are deemed 'workable'.

#

All feedback welcome. As this is fantasy, the ranges are based on how I would like 2 or 3 waterfowl species to exist on Medved and are not based on research of the area. Quite happy to hear more ;realistic' suggestions.

Personally I'm content with the species list on Medved as it is, but if people feel we need another bird I think it should be another upland bird like a grouse. There'd be no need to justify that with crazy storms and whatnot.

Not every reserve needs to have the full range of animal types. I think the maps feeling different through the types of game available on them is a good thing.

The exotic feel of Vurhonga was already damaged by constant duck quacking, and I'd hate for the same thing to happen to the serene vibe of Medved.

Thanks for the suggestion, Doofus. Although, I think rather than dismissing them for 'noise', which is an issue with the waterfowl being too loud and intrusive on all maps, the problem should be resolved with a volume adjuster like the e-caller. There's a thread asking for this already which I hope the devs will listen to.
With the addition of the new retriever, I wouldn't definitely like to see a lot more small added to each research.
I'm okay with ridiculous stories. There are already quite a few in the game. πŸ˜„

Hello,
We appreciate your enthusiasm for waterfowl hunting and understand your desire to see a more diverse range of species in Medved-Taiga. Your insights on potential additions for a Siberian setting are valuable and we'll certainly consider your thoughts as we continue to explore ways to enhance older reserves. Thank you for sharing your ideas!

Medved needs more species. So I'm down!

#

Black Grouse would make a great addition to Medved as well

Oh. This got a bit of a boost. Thanks for the support!
