.44 magnum cartridges Rifle Score

As of now, the .44 cartridges are used by one revolver (.44 Wildcat and Panther magnums) and one lever action rifle (Moradi Model 1894). It would be fun to see a way to unlock the .44 nose hard cartriges without needing to use handguns, since in this case, it is used by more than 1 type of firearm. I dont enjoy hunting with handguns (in general), so having to grind countless hunts with handguns only to unlock a .44 for my rifle seems unatural.

I believe that this is the case with other firearms, but I am not sure on that.

I used roe deer on Cuatro Colinas to quickly level up my handguns. But then I love the 454 Sundberg for hunting Buffalo (all types). I got quite good at head shots to brain Banteng as well. A handgun is also great for when being attacked by wolves.

The only other cartridges shared across weapon types are .22LR and .243, both of which are used in rifles and a pistol. .22LR is only used in DLC guns, so it isn't locked behind xp at all. The polymer .243 is behind xp, and as far as I know it's only rifle xp, but the amount is so low that it's irrelevant. So the situation for .44 Mag is pretty much unique in the game.

FWIW I also don't enjoy hunting with handguns for the most part. The only exception is that I don't mind plinking at rabbits and the occasional turkey with the Ruger, so when I've needed handgun xp I'll add that to my loadout in case I come across any. I also sometimes bring a revolver for defense against aggressive species. Unfortunately neither is a quick way to do it, obviously.

yeah its a bummer. I also carry a gun in case i come in those situation. The fastest way i found for grinding handgun score is simply get on my ATV and ride across the savanna, chase animals and get off to shoot them, with that I can get 10-20 kills in a single sesion, which gives me good xp but still, it isnt what I like about the game so its really boring.

That's why I like Buffalo / Bison hunting. Never boring when getting chased.

yeah just chased around 30 Bisons, killed like, maybe 20 with my pistol? then got chased by a pack of greywolves, and I didnt have any bullets in any of my guns so I almost died

I like the 10mm for wolves, although I like the power of the Sundberg better. An M1911 45 might be nice. I tend to put as many med kits as I can afford on a quick slot when in wolf territory. Too easy to die. The wolves have declared war on me:No matter what map - Grey or Iberian wolf. They love to mob me.
