fixed it by choosing a specific proton version.. lol.

The game refused to start on experimental. When using a few other versions, it would load but at 1FPS. For some reason, choosing proton 5.13-6 resolved it.

I can't get the game to launch on any proton version besides 5.13-6, but per protonDB every version should be working so idk why I'm having this weird problem.

yeah i had problem with epic version and now with steam version this is fucked up that devs dont give a shit that so many people have bug like that

If you're not on Linux and have an anti-virus, set an exception to the game within the antivirus. Apparently anti viruses can do the same thing
