#All handguns frequently not firing

After further testing, I have discovered that the following issue is happening to all handguns and particularly when I'm in a chase with an aggressive animal. I'm on Xbox.

Is anybody else experiencing this issue with the Sundberg handgun? See the video. It usually happens on the first couple of attempts when aiming to shoot but pulling the trigger doesn't discharge a bullet. When I aim again at the target it suddenly fires okay. You can hear the click in the video which is when I pulled the controller trigger twice but no shots are fired.

Is this broken or bugged or is this how it is supposed to work? I've asked a few times in the chat over the last few months but I can't get a clear answer and that's probably down to me not explaining the issue very well.

It's one of my favourite weapons in the game and I mostly use it for buffalo chases so it can be a bit frustrating when I line up a perfect shot and nothing fires. I know, it's a cheap thrill but it's a lot of fun so I was hoping someone could shed some light on why this happens. Is it normal or is this something that the devs should be looking at?

Yes, happens to me regularly, only with this gun.

Hi,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It appears that the hammer is being unintentionally cocked again when shooting while ADS under certain circumstances. No need for a ticket, we'll investigate this for a fix in future releases.

Just wanted to follow up as you are playing with a scope and cannot exactly see what's happening. This is caused after shooting and immediately exiting aim mode before the hammer cocks. The game then thinks it needs to cock the hammer again, and does so on the next trigger pull - this is the click you can hear in the video.
For now, I recommend waiting a bit after each shot in aim mode for the hammer to be cocked before exiting ADS. This is not ideal though, so we will investigate further.

I've just been hunting Salties on EC via PC with mouse with the Sundberg and it was shooting just fine. Can't say I've ever had this issue. I hunt water and cape Burffalo as well as Bison with the 454 as well. Good fun!!

Hi Paul.
Can you please have a look at the following videos. I've had a go at using the Sunberg without the sight but it is still jamming regularly. Sometimes on the first shot or then on the second shot. Today, it seemed to jam twice concurringly. As mentioned before, this doesn't occur with any other handgun so it is a little unexpected when it happens and can be quite frustrating at times. Is this a bug with the gun or is this how it's supposed to work?

I've put the reflex sight on. Going to chase some bulls. LOL. Will let you know how I get on!

Me too. It's bloody annoying! 😂

So I also tried the rhino and colt and jamming occurred on those guns too. Jamming seems to only happen when I'm in a chase. Which is why I hadn't noticed it on the other guns. I assume the 357 is the same.

#

Unfortunately, the Colt clip didn't save.

#

All these kills were done consecutively, which means the jamming is pretty much happening on every kill. There is no jamming when I'm stalking.

Hello,
Popping in again to reiterate my last post as it seems there's still some confusion. What is happening here is that the player is canceling the hammer cocking animation by exiting the aim mode right after firing. Because the revolvers are single-action (except when hip firing - see more details in the Outback update), the hammer has to be cocked after each shot - and the character does it automatically unless canceled as in the provided clips.
This behavior is not exclusive to revolvers; it also occurs with certain other mechanisms, e.g. cycling the bolt on the .243, but it may not be as noticeable because players often hunt mid/long range and remain in aim mode to see if the shot was successful.

I recommend waiting a bit longer in aim mode after firing a revolver so it gives your character enough time to cock the hammer.
For a more visual understanding, you can observe the full animation in the 'Rhino with no scope' clip after the last shot at 0:13 or in the Magniafico gif below.

If you believe there are any further inconsistencies, please reach out to us directly via the support portal. We'd be happy to investigate: https://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hi Paul,
Thanks for taking the time for such a thorough explanation. It's very much appreciated. Admittedly, I had that part confused. Having had another look at it I can see now how I am cancelling the hammer coccking. The problem is that, in the chase scenario with the bulls, it is not always possible to wait longer as a split second can get you killed. I do agree with you that this is not ideal. Hopefully there will be a relatively easy fix for this in the future. Perhaps when the hammer is uncoccked then when you take aim again it automatically coccks it.

Wookie, after reading Paul's note above, I'm curious if are you able to recreate the same scenario with handguns on PC? If you release the aim mode immediately after firing the weapon, it should interrupt the co(c)king mechanism which causes the 'non-fire' response when you aim and shoot again.

Tried to make it misfire and can't the automatic c*cking with delay seems built into the action on PC.

Ah. Okay. I need to test this in the range.
