So as an avid hunter and gun guy one thing that irks me is the weapon classes and animal classes. So to fix this and make things more accurate for real life, I recommend the following considerations.

Cape Buffalo are considerably tougher than any other animal in game. Therefore I recommend moving either other animals such as Bison, Water Buffalo, lion, etc down from Class 9 or moving Cape Buffalo up to their own class, a new Class 10. A popular saying in the hunting community for Cape Buffalo is “if the first shot doesn’t kill him the next 15 will only piss him off”
Along with this, the 300 is the best gun in game for Cape Buff, but is not legal in any African country as far as I’m aware. Most countries require a minimum bullet diameter of .375 for “The Dangerous Seven” (CB, lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, hippo, crocodile). Therefore, adding a 375 H&H to the game would be highly recommended.

Raccoons are most commonly hunted with 22 so move them back to Class 1

30-06 has been used to harvest every big game animal in North America, meanwhile the 7mm is mostly used for elk and smaller. Therefore the 30-06 should be more powerful than 7mm

300 magnum is great for any moose, bear, or anything else not in the dangerous 7 in the world

Water Buffalo are hunted in the Philippines with 308, so they should be moved to class 8

African animals are notorious for being tougher than similar sized game in other places, so this should be considered when making the classes

Vet/Professional Hunter Kevin Robertson has a lot of reading material and podcasts on African game hunting and the comparisons to other continents animals

Hold on, Water Buffalo are much bigger then either Banteng or Cape Buffalo, and the only reason they are hunted with 308s in some places is probably because it is cheaper then using larger calibers

Water Buffalo should either be class 9 or 10

While I agree there need to be some class changes, alot of this doesn't make sense. And the guns would be completely unbalanced because no one would use 308 or 7mm ever again over 30-06 and no one would use 300 over 375 h&h.

Well no,for quite a good portion of these like 30-06 you might as well add grains. Also,375 6-10 and 300 6-8 would be stupidly over powered

Size doesn’t matter when it comes to an animals toughness. An elk is bigger than a deer by several hundred pounds and they are hunted with the same calibers. And to be fair, water Buffalo are hunted with 308 because in the Philippines you have to rent military weapons to hunt them (so technically 7.62 NATO, so more chamber pressure but same diameter and not much difference in ballistic performance). Cape Buffalo are tougher because of the adrenaline dump that happens when they are shot. They have been found with 30-06 in their heart and still alive years after the injury

Still, Class 7 is rather low for water buffalo, Class 8 is bare minimum but preferably class 9 or 10

Now I am assuming you and I either read the same article or similar
Because from what I am reading, the author doesn’t even consider the 308 (7.62 NATO) their first choice for buffalo and the shot on one of the buffalo was under 20 yards

Yeah I’m not saying it’s a great round for them at all, but it was worth noting that they are not as tough as Cape. Putting them at 7 was probably to low though
