Cameroon is a unique country for hunting as in the South, the Congo Rainforest is a major draw, as well as the Savannah in the north. The southern section of this map would consist of thick jungle/rainforest in the southeast with wetlands as you come closer to a river flowing southwest from the northeast corner splitting the two sections of the map.

Map-wide Species:
Class 7- West African Crocodile
Class 2- African Civet
Class 1- White-faced Whistling Duck
Class 1- African Pygmy Goose

Jungle Species:
Class 10- African Forest Elephant
Class 9- African Forest Buffalo
Class 8- Western Bongo
Class 6- Giant Forest Hog
Class 4- Forest Sitatunga
Class 4- Red River Hog
Class 3- Yellow-Backed Duiker
Class 2- Blue Duiker
Class 2- Bay Duiker

Possible:
Class 3- Rock Python
Class 2- Peter’s Duiker
Class 2- Black-Fronted Duiker
Class 2- African Golden Cat
Class 1- Bates’ Pygmy Antelope

The northern part of this map would feature some greener grasslands transitioning up into the typical African savannah with sparse deciduous trees. There would be a decent amount of watering holes in the greener part and decrease as you go farther northwest

Savannah Species:
Class 10- Hippo
Class 9- Lion
Class 9- Giant Eland
Class 9- Northwestern Savannah Buffalo
Class 6- Roan Antelope
Class 6- Defassa Waterbuck
Class 5- Spotted Hyena
Class 4- Western Hartebeest
Class 4- Topi
Class 4- Western Kob
Class 4- Warthog
Class 3- Harnessed Bushbuck
Class 3- Bohor Reedbuck
Class 3- Olive Baboon
Class 2- Caracal
Class 2- Serval
Class 2- Common Duiker

Possible:
Class 3- Rock Python
Class 2- Oribi
Class 2- Red Flanked Duiker
Class 1- Helmeted Guinea Fowl
Class 1- Egyptian Goose

This is obviously an extreme amount of species, but to me it’s like a list of all possible species that could be picked from. Let me know what you think!

I love all the Duiker

The African Forest Buffalo is one of the main trophies of the Congo. These would be in the jungle area in small herds, and they’re known to be more aggressive than cape buffalo. I could see class 9 or 8, even though they hardly grow over 700lbs, because of their thick skin and aggressiveness.

The western bongo is the third largest antelope and the most sought after African forest species on the continent. They can grow upwards of 900 lbs and are very easily spooked. They would be found in the jungle with large males being solitary and female and young males being in small herds.

Another one of the very popular trophy species in the jungle region is the Sitatunga. The only “amphibious” antelope, it is evolved for swimming and living in swampy areas. They can grow to over 250 lbs.

#

In the savannah region, Cameroon is known for the Giant Eland. The largest antelope in the world, males can grow upwards of 2600 lbs with 4 foot spiral horns.

polar barn
#

The two hog species that call the jungle home are the Giant Forest Hog which can reach over 600 pounds, and the Red River Hog, weighing around 250.

#

Forest hogs would be an awesome aggressive species.

#

The tiny antelope that will fill the jungle are the larger Yellow-Backed Duiker, the similarly sized Peter’s, Blue, Black-Fronted, and Bay Duiker, and the rabbit sized Bates’ Pygmy Antelope. Here they are in the order they were listed.

#

The only species that would be found throughout the whole map, the African Civet. This predator can grow close to 50 lbs and are often shot while big game hunting.

#

One of the most iconic African animals, the hippos would create a new class for COTW, typically weighing around 3000 lbs but reaching weights of nearly 6000, these behemoths would be seen occasionally in the waterholes in the savannah.

#

Competing with the Civet for prey in the savannah will be the Lion, Spotted Hyena, Caracal, and Serval. In the rainforest there will be African Golden Cats

The large herbivores of the savannah consist of the Western Savannah Buffalo, a buffalo subspecies growing up to 1300 lbs, the large Roan Antelope, and Defassa Waterbuck, and the medium sized Western Hartebeest, Topi, Western Kob, and a returning species from Vurhonga, the Warthog.

#

The smaller savannah species include the Harnessed Bushbuck, Bohor Reedbuck, Olive Baboon, Oribi, Common Duiker, and Red-Flanked Duiker

This is a pretty neat map for a second COTW African map! I believe another dangerous species in the water could be added alongside the Hippo, the Nile crocodile.

All this and not a single crocodile species ... shame.

I would however like a mention of the Cave Crocodiles of Gabon, maybe even a mission…

Honestly? This is the perfect Africa 2.0 map imo. It combines the dense tropical rainforests with northern savannahs and a VERY unique lineup of game animals. Like, I don't think that bongos were ever seen in a mainstream hunting game.

I rarely play COTW nowadays, but I still kinda love the game. It's always cool to see these suggestions. I just hope that they implement a "realism mode" for those who wants a more Classic-like hunting experience. This would certainly bring me back to the game, as I always search for a more immersive experience.

But, anyways, congrats for this map idea. I think it is criminally underrated for a map that presents, arguably, one of the most unique fauna and flora. 🙂

For the reserve weapon I was definitely leaning towards a .416 Remington Magnum, a common dangerous game weapon, in a bolt action. This would be a class 9-10 weapon with the addition of the hippo (470 would be adjusted to be 9-10 as well) but more accurate than the current double barrel.

Even if Crocodiles were included as a species on this reserve, the chances that it would be Nile Crocodile is 50/50 thanks to the West African Crocodile (Crocodylus suchus) which is found across West and most of Central Africa (they were considered separate species after several studies by 2015)

Because West African Crocodiles are smaller then Nile Crocodiles I would put them as a Class 6 species

As for birds, waterfowl species like African Pygmy Goose and White-faced Whistling duck would fit for the savannah river or rainforest wetlands. Some sort of Guineafowl would be neat as well like the Plumed Guineafowl which can be found in Central/West Africa

I love this idea

#

I think the idea of Cameroon for Africa 2.0 is very underrated.

I came back to this map with a few additional species. Python are pretty commonly hunted in Cameroon and it’s one of the few places where they are hunted, so despite maybe some mechanic issues I think they would be nice on this map. I also added some birds, Helmeted Guineafowl, White-faced Whistling Ducks, Egyptian Geese, and African Pygmy Geese. Bird hunting isn’t huge in Cameroon but these are popular game birds that live in the country, so they could be hunted there.

Welcome to Little Africa Game Preserve (Cameroon)

#

I changed the name of this map idea to Little Africa Game Preserve, as Cameroon is referred to as Little Africa due to its varying biomes and 5th highest biodiversity on the continent. I feel like this would be an amazing africa 2, and still leave the door open for a more traditional safari style map.

#

If people could just let me know if they’re interested in this concept I could work on a map concept with the ranges of the species on it!

Cool idea but would deff take too long, since almost all Species are new. Elephants could b cool tho.

We need new species in the game, you can only do so many white-tail, moose or red deer maps before people start complaining

i want them to focus one december update on backfilling and revamping old maps, and then one of very sought after maps in the summer update

I’d also love for them to allow modding to a certain degree, patrol the mod sites, ban what they don’t want.

The addition of bengal tigers and snow leopards opens a whole new door in my eyes for COTW’s future. When I originally thought of this map I thought elephants had a next to zero chance of appearing, but now I could see it happening. Maybe even just one herd on the map or something like that, or specimens that have caused property damage, etc.

#

as suggested by @hollow kernel i added the West African Crocodile as a map-wide species

#

i also just wanted to reiterate that i know this species list is huge and not realistic, but i just wanted to highlight the insane biodiversity of the area, and how many possible species there are, even tho many wouldn’t be added

Is there a way gorillas and chimpanzees could be incorporated without having them hunted

Even as a source of ambiance, they'd rly be perfect for the rainforest parts of the map

Also, leopards should be in both parts of the map as they're super adaptable
