#huge new species/backfill update

I think that the next big update should be a revamp of existing maps not adding a new one. Some of the older maps seem like they have been left in the dust a little by all the new features of the new maps. I would add species to every map and also remodel some species as well as separating some species into two subspecies (whitetail/coues, etc.) Let me know what you all think.

Layton-
Mountain Lion, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goat
Moose -> Shiras’ Moose

Hirschfelden-
European Mouflon, Raccoon, Raccoon Dog, Capercaillie, Black Grouse

MedVed-
Red Fox, Mountain Hare, Black Grouse, Willow Ptarmigan, Rock Ptarmigan
Moose-> Yakutia Moose
Brown Bear -> Siberian Brown Bear

Vurhonga-
No backfills

Parque Fernando-
Class 6- Père David's Deer
Class 4- Jacob’s Sheep
Class 1- Spotted Nothura, Picazuro Pigeon, Eared Dove, Fulvous Whistling Duck, Rosy-billed Pochard, Chiloe Wigeon, Red Shoveler
Remodel peccary into White-lipped Peccary

Yukon-
Class 4- Dall Sheep
Class 2- Wolverine, Arctic Fox
Class 1- Snowshoe Hare, White-tailed Ptarmigan, Alaskan Hare, Emperor Geese, White-fronted Geese, Sandhill Crane
Remodel moose as Alaskan Moose
Remodel Caribou as Barren Ground Caribou

Cuatro Colinas
Class 4- Barbary Sheep
Class 3- Chamois
Class 1- Red-legged Partridge, Wood Pigeon

#

I will be working on my ideas for the rest of the maps soon

Man, this might be the ultimate backfilling list

The Brown Bears on Medved are Siberian Brown Bears though……
Also should point out that Medved is likely too far south for Arctic Fox (the ones in Russia are fairly close to the coast), so it is unlikely to work out and I hate to say it but Red Fox are the most realistic inclusion

Also the only snow sheep subspecies that might work for Medved are the Yakutia Snow Sheep (https://www.slamquest.org/animal-details.php?a=37), Okhotsk Snow Sheep (https://www.slamquest.org/animal-details.php?a=36) or the Kolyma Snow Sheep (https://www.slamquest.org/animal-details.php?a=34)
Those 3 subspecies potentially share range with the Siberian Musk Deer hence why I chose them

As for the Bison on Yukon Valley, the Plains Bison are fine as they are and don’t need to be changed out for Wood Bison because at this time it is Plains Bison that are hunted in Alaska

Wood Bison were only reintroduced to Alaska in 2015 where as Plains Bison were introduced in 1928 because at the time they thought all the pure-bred Wood Bison were extinct
(https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=plainsbison.main)

Yeah the subspecies of snow sheep would be interesting i don’t know if they would even specify because it’s doubtful they would get added to another map, and yeah the red fox would probably work better.
The reason i said the thing abt siberian brown bears is so that the reventuli bears could be changed to european brown bears which are smaller, so it wouldn’t really be a remodel for medved.
You’re right about the bison for some reason I had it switched in my head that plains bison just got introduced and wood bison were the ones that are hunted, probably because of WOTH.

Baboon would fit better in class 3.There’s also African Crested Porcupine which could either be Class 2 or 3,Suni-Class 1/2 Red,Grey,Blue Duiker-Class 2 and of course,The infamous Helmeted Guineafowl-Class 1

#

I also think you meant Rename instead of remodel.

I’d honestly love to see the main 3 small canids on SRP specifically for a coyote remodel.

Right off the bat I have one thing to say about Grizzly Bears and Wolves on SRP: It does not need to happen as not every reserve needs large predators (plus grizzly bears in the lower 48 are protected as far as I know)

Everything else regarding your additions too SRP is fine though

You are also right about the bears on Medved being the same ones on Revontouli

I should add to that point that their scientific name Ursus arctos collaris comes from the white collar that a fair number of bears have

This is an amazing list, but I would change/add few things to it.

Layton Lakes

  • Mule Deer

Medved-Taiga
• Northern Lights.

Vurhonga

  • Hyenas

Parque Fernando

  • Caiman

Yukon Valley
• Northern Lights

Emerald Coast
° instead of Feral Cats, Dingos would be better.

If the inclusion of Collared Peccary to Parque is described as a bit of a stretch, then the caiman would be too

But for the sake of caiman inclusion, the closest species to Parque geographically are the Yacare Caiman and the Broad-snouted Caiman

For my South American waterfowl focused area (https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1070132029905178645) I personally went with Yacare (mind you my SA Waterfowl area is in Northern Argentina)

Now for Parque’s northern swamps you could go with either species

First Image: Yacare Caiman
Second Image: Broad-snouted Caiman

I also included a range map of the Dingo

Could we have missions, too? And a more levels?

As I recall, Dingoes are an introduced, invasive species. So sure, lets have a varmint predator(besides the million red foxes) on Emerald coast.

This is why I made the British Columbia map so this Roosevelt Elk range problem could be fixed. It would be nice to have them on a third map. Maybe Kodak island map.

@merry totem You do realize Layton doesn't have Stone sheep, Rocky Mountain Elk ,Wolverine , Dall sheep, Mountain goats, Fallow Deer and Probably some others I'm missing as well. If you look in the comments of my suggestion you would see that has been discussed with pictures and maps showing it is mainly based in the U.S. in Oregon and Washington. You can't have the northern lights on Layton also.

Wolverines should get added to Revontuli too if they get added to Yukon Valley.

# lunar crypt That reminds me,I’m always surprised SRP doesn’t have more beautiful creeks and ...

The engine that COTW is built on, aren't allowing to make rivers and waterfalls, but I absolutely agree that having waterfalls and rivers on SRP would make it the ultimate Rocky Mountain hunting experience, especially if we had black bears feeding on top of the small waterfalls in the rivers catching fish .... imagine coming down from the mountains to the river and seeing all kinds of wildlife close or far, especially if the render distance was further.

It seems to me, based on the animal species present, the presence of Alpine Larch trees in the mountainous areas of the map, and the general terrain of the map, that Layton is located in the North Cascades of Washington state. As you can see on this map, the North Cascades do extend into British Columbia a little bit, but all the other signs hint toward Layton being located in the U.S., so logically it has to be in Washington.

hoary crow
#

I believe it actually extends further south than what is in the red outline because of the oregon trail reference and Mt Saint Helens reference. Mount Saint Helens is in southern Washington. I can see it from my backyard.

@zinc ruin You are correct on the flag, so unless British Columbia is American now it's definitely not in British Columbia

I suggested a Swedish Reserve on the island of Öland ( #1131559205975904316 for those interested ) which has a few species that could get added to a few maps.

Revontuli:
Cranes
Badger
Long Tailed Duck

Hirschfelden:
Cranes
Badger
Beaver

Medved Taiga:
Cranes (maybe???)
Long Tailed Duck
Badger (maybe???)

New England:
Long Tailed Duck

Layton:
Badger
Beaver

Cuatro Colinas:
Badger
Cranes

Yukon:
Long Tailed Duck
Beaver

releasied that most these maps dont mean anything without context so ye

  1. Long Tailed Duck
  2. Grey Seal
  3. Crane.

Keep in mind, there are limits as to how big the animal population can be on a map or the game just will not run well. That means, for example, if mountain lions were added to Layton, they might need to cut down on the number of Whitetails and elk to make room. Smaller populations of individual species mean you will not find them as often (the maps are huge). The result might not be ideal (e.g., only 20 male mountain lions spread out over the entire map, and tiny whitetail and elk populations as well)

now this is an observation, but hirschfeldon and layton do not have any predators that scare animals, most likely for beginner players, so i would say no to mt lions on layton.

#

also yukon could have mt goats, roosevelt elk and blacktail, but make them smaller and call them sitka blacktails. Also te awaroa could have Tahr (class 4)
