Idea for Next CotW Game

  • Call of the Wild: 1900s
  • Set in Late 1800s / Early 1900s
  • Africa & South America Starting Maps
  • Time Period weapons/tools, laws, hunt-able species, hunting methods, ways of travel
  • Map Screen will look similar but with a more "classic" painted feel rather than digital outline neon look. 🗺️
  • Lodge Included 🙏
  • Mechanics same as CotW:theHunter (mostly)
  • Could have some huge fish to spear hunt, IF spears were to be incorporated (way to get a little of :theAngler in on this) & (more "primitive" weapons)
  • Less Outposts Per Map
  • No HunterMate/cellphone maybe something physical to look at like a map or compass.

Certain limitations can still be implemented to keep the challenge.
With a game set in the past We can see Species that are NOT available to hunt in current times. 🐯 🦏 🦍
Set in the accurate time period Tons of animals could be hunt-able.
I think going to the past is the only logical way to go about hunting these animals while keeping the critics & fact-checkers "on-board" with the idea.

Now this I can get behind

Though I have to ask, why South America as a starting map?
I would say somewhere in Western North America alongside Africa would be better for a starting map as the late 1800s & early 1900s still had a fair number of big game

After all the last California Grizzly was killed in the 1920s
And Jaguars lived in the Southwestern US (in much larger numbers)

This could be good. Would love to see Dog sleds and Horses in a starting Canada map also.

South America just for all the Exotic Species
True for a North American map, Just wanted more "out-there" of a location. (Though it would still be awesome for a old timey NA feel)
I Was thinking the South America would be more dense like Hirshfeilden and the Africa would be more "forgiving" like Layton.(a little more open)

I think Horses and Dog sleds would Fit Right In with this time period 👍
Canada or the "North" in the General would Too be a great Starting map.

A 1800s/1900s South American map does have fantastic potential, for example Brazil

Water Buffalo of the Murrah breed (picture provided) were known in Brazil since the 1890s
Obviousness Feral Pigs but also 2 kinds of Peccary
Jaguars, Pumas, several types of Caiman such as the giant Black Caiman (20 feet is the likely maximum)

For deer you could easily have Tropical White-tail, Pampas Deer, Marsh Deer and several types of Brocket Deer

You also have Lowland Tapir, Capybara, Giant Anteater (shockingly dangerous) and Rheas for big game
Could also throw in some Anacondas and Giant River Otters

Lots of duck species, monkeys, agouti, armadillo, fox, ocelots and other small cats

So many Unique Species to hunt during this time! All over the World.

Love this idea!

I’m putting together a potential species list for a South American area, set in Central Brazil

tranquil wigeon
#

I would love to have a DLC of even 1 map of this if they didn't want to do a whole game.

deep token
#

A separate game would allow for things like tigers and elephants though given the time period

tranquil wigeon
#

They could just call it back in time DLC 🤣

gray musk
#

Very True to both, I feel if CotW:2 were to do something like this, eventually we could even go further back in time into Pleistocene or even Cretaceous in CotW:2.5 or CotW:3 even.
With the Ideas I've seen from here in suggestions.

tranquil wigeon
#

Hopefully they would add swimming or canoes from the start.

deep token
#

Now the ones about Ice Age Animals and Dinosaurs were posted as ideas for separate games

What about a train track with a single man cart. I've read people would hunt from the trains in this time period

For a number of species I think having trees they can climb into would be great

# deep token Here is my idea for a species list for an area somewhere in Central Brazil, it w...

As a brazilian, if there was a brazilian map, I think that tinamous are a group of birds that must be included. They’re known as forest ghosts (some of them patrols the fields, but its a minority), you hear their melancholic songs, but rarely see them. They’re hunted all over Brazil, but it is illegal. The pantanal forests contain species such as the undulated tinamou, Crypturellus undulatus, locally called "jaós". There’s actually a whole culture about these birds and the tradition of hunting them.

Here's a couple options for rifles. The rifle with yellow ammo boxes is a Steyr model 1893, 6.5 caliber in this picture. The other is a Westley Richards rifle called the Special Colonial, chambered in .318 Rimless/Netro Express/ Westley Richards.
Yeah, 3 names for one caliber is confusing huh?

From what I understand you only want a map to kill all the animals that inhabit it before it was illegal to kill them.
Those animals could be hunted in South America because there were no environmental studies, no information on populations or biological knowledge about the species, neither territorial laws on environmental resources nor government agencies that will dictate these laws, this lack of control is basically the reason these animals can't be hunted nowadays, it's like we're leaving the CotW base where hunting is portrayed as a solution and instead portray it as "the problem".

India and China would be possible.

For the trophy lodge it could be some sort of museum

#

With a museum inspired trophy lodge you could pick sections to represent different continents too

#

However, I think if you would agree if in the game we represented an Explorer and we were in pre-civilization natural spaces, before countries, where we could go into various unexplored territories to gather animal species for a museum, I admit that that would be great and there will be numerous ancient weapons that could be used

tranquil wigeon

@magic fox They could have Relics for the explorer to find and you could even put them in the museum

After all, in the Age of Discovery, every existing insects, reptiles, mammals, every animal was collected to have taxidermiological records of them

#

This is actually a good idea, and like others have said it would be cool if we represented some Explorer Guild to go and collect specimens this would open up to more mission types and like the old COTW maps with unique collectibles.

tranquil wigeon
#

It would be sweet to have the collectibles you find after a certain amount Reward you with a special outfit or something. Make it where only the people that find the collectibles get that outfit. Gives purpose to finding them.

#

To keep it fresh they add new collectibles each update

The biomes would be dry thorn forest, hilly scrubland, moist deciduous forest where certain species can be found in specific biomes

tranquil wigeon

Hopefully on the next COTW we will have a bigger lineup of animals on 1 map.

I really wanna see a game like this, the weapons would have so much more class and they could actually use brand names, it's incredible how diverse weapons were before bolt actions went into mass production. Personally I have a long list of guns that i'd buy a game just to use (can't find them IRL and i couldn't afford to buy them from a collector) One i plan to get as soon as they are available is a repro Colt Lightning Rifle in .45 Colt, hopefully with a tang sight too

agile thunder
#

These are two guns from Hunt Showdown, i posted them elsewhere but figure they'd fit in here too. They'd have been really popular in America around the time this version of CotW would be set in.

# brave furnace I’m all for a Early 1900’s India, the time of the maneater

Maybe you're there to collect museum specimens? Providing meat for Hindu villagers (goats, boar, antelopes, bears were popular meat options from what I've read of Jim Corbett's books) Protecting crops from wild boars? Hunting a livestock killing leopard?

I'd be a little disappointed if they didn't at least mention Corbett's work, he's basically an icon of hunting and conservation. Maybe have a similar model to his .275 Rigby, period accurate scope/ladder sights and such?

Ok so because this game is set in supposedly 1880s-1920 or something like that I think I would love a NZ map it has such a rich hunting history now I have to do more research on this but if people have info it'd be good

Problem is there are two islands in the

South Island

Red deer
Fallow deer
Wapiti
Moose
Chamois
Tahr
Whitetail
Feral pigs
Feral goats

North island

Sika deer
Sambar deer
Rusa deer
Red deer
Fallow deer
Feral pigs and Feral goats too

Now I was thinking South Island has more hunting history than the North Island from what I know
