When it comes to class 8-9 animals in Thehunter: Call of the Wild, unless you get heart shots, lots of these animals will run for a long time until they go down. Moose and Cape Buffalo come to my mind when thinking about tanky animals in the game. My suggestion is to introduce any one of these weapons and cartridges to the game in a future update:

  • Rifle: Winchester Model 70

  • Cartridge: .375 H&H Magnum

  • Cartridge: .416 Remington Magnum

  • Cartridge: .458 Win Mag

  • Rifle: A-Square/Eddystone Model 1914

  • Cartridge: .577 Tyrannosaur (a personal favorite from the game Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2009)

The pros from a game balance perspective is that they’re hard hitting with 50 or 60+ penetration that can potentially hit a double lung depending on the angle you shoot. You can equip any standard rifle scope in the game. The rifles will have a 3-4 round capacity depending on the irl weapons that the in-game weapons are based on, allowing for follow up shots. On maps that have class 8-9 animals and not class 7 like Vurhonga, Parque Fernando and Hirschfeldon you can have a weapon dedicated for the largest big game animals.

The cons from a game balance perspective is that they’re unethical for anything Class 7 and below so you’ll have to use a different weapon for bears of Saltwater Crocs. The weapons themselves would have to weigh 4.5 or 5 units of storage like the .338 or .470 rifles. And the recoil of course would be intense, just like every other large caliber rifle in the game, making follow up shots more difficult.

Whether these weapons and cartridges came to the game as part of a weapon pack or a new reserve, I’d welcome any of these into my loadouts!

If anyone has any suggestions like other calibers or rifles, feel free to add on

375 H&H Magnum is one of the calibres used to hunt Brown Bears though and the 416 has also been used to hunt them (Class 7-9 for the 375 at least)

The 458 would be good Class 8 & 9 Rifle (and for balance I suppose the 416 could also be a Class 8 & 9 Rifle)

The 577 Tyrannosaur would probably be a dedicated Class 9 Rifle

A Sharps or Falling Block in the .50-110 caliber would be a great inclusion for 8-9 game, it was made with bison in mind after all
