I shot a coyote from 150m standing relatively deep in the water of the lake. I did not see it flee but before the recoil took it out of my FOV I saw it go down. Could be just an animation of head down before fleeing. Though I've spend good 30min of IRL time searching for tracks and the only explanation I came up with is that

  1. Coyote teleported to the other side of the lake
  2. The model slid down the mesh of the lake and I can't travel deep enough into it to claim it.

Platform: Steam, latest version
Location: Willipeg
Weapon: Zarza-10 .308
Distance: ~150m (ref screenshots)
Splatter: Vital organ hit

Interestingly the blood splatter seems to be much closer to the edge of the water than where I saw the animal to originally stand. Same goes with map marker - much deeper into the water. About 0.5m deeper than path blocker allows a player to venture. It's like the splatter was generated not exactly where the animal was shot. Only coyote's head was poking out of the water.

I think it's a common bug where animals sink, and it used to happen a lot before the update. I don't know if it fixed or not after the update, but something similar happened to me.

I shot diamond fallow in my grind and he fall in the water, since it was going to take time to get to me so I went to kill some other fallow in other zones, but when I went back I couldn't find him. I searched both sides of the lake without a trace. he just disappeared.

But I don't know if both are the same exact bug before the update,

The only difference with your case is that I went to claim immediately after the shot. Really annoying. Hunting pressure growing only because you can't claim.

I went through the support forum and I am definitely not the only person with the issue...

To the devs reading this: The easy solution for that bug would be using exactly the same system that teleports the player out of the water with the only difference being instead of teleporting animals out of the water just make it a path blocker for animals. "Solid" object like trees and rocks. Possibly with some added padding to account for vermin and small animals that would be submerged much faster than a hunter. Unless it's not a mesh and just a formula that measures how deep a hunter can venture into the water by checking how deep is submerged in which case it's probably less reliable...

It's either that or introducing system allowing everyone to swim...🤔

I just had a Salty float back to me luckily it was in multiplayer as only way was one player to stand deep in water before re-spawn and other jump on shoulders to get animal harvest .not sure what i would have done in single player ? Most likely left it behind.
