So after playing the story missions of Emerald Coast a fair bit, I got to the part where you’re asked to go to a sanctuary and take pictures of the species they have for a magazine.

This got me thinking, should players have their own sanctuary to show off their top hunts?

Absolutely! It’d add another layer of gameplay for those who want to retain the animals they adore and appreciate, whether that’s for their unique fur/rack variation or their claim on a Great One. Much like the Trophy Lodges we already have, a prefab sanctuary would be a great start to show off the species in their habitats. Lots are already themed, the player would just have to “hunt” the species to fill them. Now I wouldn’t expect every species to have their own lots in the sanctuary straight off the bat, but sequential DLC or Free-LC would pick up the portions of species left out.

Continued in comments.

How would the player catch the animals they want to add to their sanctuary when the animal dies after being shot?

Live-trapping with cages or pens would work well with Classes 1-3 and Classes 4 and above would have to be subdued with a new ammo-type. Tranquilliser darts. These would be limited to either a new rifle or an additional ammo to rifles like the .45 Vasquez air rifle.

Wouldn’t player’s abuse this and claim easy trophies?

Not if the current mechanics are slightly changed to support the darts. Using the current downed system, the animal either drops to the ground instantly or bolts away. This would still be usable with tranquillisers as animals with a high flight-instinct would still be capable of bolting until the tranquilliser kicked in. Once the animal is tranquillised it would be immune from bullet damage, so hitting an animal once with a tranquilliser would bring it down after a delay forcing the hunter to still track the animal regardless of the location the dart hit, whilst still giving the original hunter the claim. The same way someone other than the original hunter can pick-up trophies if the original hunter lost sight of the body or left the game.
Animals hit prior to being tranquillised would have additional costs added by a veterinarian before being placed in a sanctuary, this would also drag the animal rating down. I.E if a Diamond Red Deer had been shot prior to being hit by a tranquilliser, it would be lowered to a Bronze or Silver rating due to inhumane practices by the hunter. - This could be abused in online matches where trolls or cheaters maim the animals and leave, leaving the animal tagged with a hit and costs the clean player extra money. I can’t think of a way to curtail these actions other than a more robust anti-cheat system for the cheater aspect, trolls will troll regardless, only thing players can do is leave the lobby or kick the player if they’re the game host. It’d also be nice to have a ban function added for hosts, so that trolls/cheaters can’t rejoin after being kicked.

Players would still have to use skill and knowledge in order to use the darts, the darts themselves would be slower than air rifle pellets and would drop off quicker at long ranges. Like the current arrow mechanics. The player would still have to get incredibly close to animals they want, making it challenging and risky against animals that are capable of attacking the player.

This opens the game to a new range of weapons and ammo... for tranquilizers... a lodge to preserve rare fur animals would be awesome, open also a new range for missions of rescue, and it would be awesome to do

I think Tranquilizer Ammo for air rifles would be the only feasible option to trap animals, and to prevent any abuse of these darts for trophy hunting, tranquilizer ammo should be "wrong ammo" for all species...
To be realistic in this modality, the Sanctuaries should be located within each specific reserve and admit only animals from the same, since transporting sedated animals to other countries would not be realistic.
I think no one would mind if a tiny portion of the map was removed to add a Sanctuary.

bumping this thread, I'd absolutely adore this or some form of it to be added within the game !! maybe you could encounter injured animals on the map and such and take them in and see as they recover! and this would also give opportunity i hope to closer and easier photos of animals, since they'll be chillin/ can't run away! I found some glitched banteng which werent fleeing and got some awesome photos with them and I'd love to be able to do that more often and with more species ! being able to observe their naturqal behaviours from up close

The concept would be amazing also making a blow dart a new weapon to add. What also would be nice is the ability to later release these animals again. Like if you set up her managment you can send all your diamond guarantees to the sanctuary. Later, release them all and have a great hunt. Maybe add a mechanic apart from great ones that there is a setting to release "the young" making the chance of a rare fur type to spawn again in your map increased.

In my opinion, the idea of tranquilizing animals and managing your own wildlife sanctuary should be made into it’s own game

i don’t really think it would be needed to “manage” the sanctuary , if you wanted to play an animal management game there’s other rlly in depth ones , but it’d be cool to submit animals to a sanctuary and just kinda see em like you do in the emerald coast one! maybe if it was injured and it was a rehab one you would just get a notif like “the injured red deer you brought in is ready for release” like it’s healed in the background you don’t have to do anything like take care of em

this would be so sick. I’d love to try and tranquilize a beautiful bison and then place him in a sanctuary. That way I could watch him trot around forever. God this is such a good idea. It would be a whole lot of work, but I love it
