As the title suggests, this map suggestion focuses on the three elk species found in California.
I think the distribution range of the three elk can work similarly to Cuatro Colinas and the ibex; have three regions of the map, where the Rocky Mountain can reside in the northeastern part of the map, the Roosevelt can be found on the northwest side, and the new Tule elk roaming the southern part of the map. This part of the idea comes from searching up elk home ranges in California.
Here is the Species list:
Blacktail Deer
Mule Deer
Black Bear
Wild Hog
Pronghorn
Rocky Mountain Elk
Roosevelt Elk
Common Raccoon
Coyote
Gray Fox
Ring-Necked Pheasant
Mallard
Rio Grande Turkey
Mountain Cottontail Rabbit (Weapon Class 1)
Black-tailed Jackrabbit (Weapon Class 1)
Ruffed Grouse (Weapon Class 1)
Sooty Grouse (Weapon Class 1)
California Quail (Weapon Class 1)
Chukar (Weapon Class 1)
Northern Pintail (Weapon Class 1)
Gadwall (Weapon Class 1)
Wood Duck (Weapon Class 1)
Blue-winged Teal (Weapon Class 1)
Ross’s Goose (Weapon Class 1)
Yellow-bellied Marmot (Weapon Class 1)
American Badger (Weapon Class 2)
Tule Elk (Weapon Class 7)
Other possible candidates:
Cinnamon Teal
Dusky Grouse (Weapon Class 1)
I settled on the Rio Grande Turkey over the Merriam's since we already have three maps with the latter and the Rio Grande's range seems to be more widespread in California.
Weapon/Equipment Ideas (Also a WiP):
Recurve Crossbow
.308 Single Shot Handgun (Can use rifle scopes, just like the .243 handgun)
7mm-08 Bolt Action Rifle (Has a built-in toggleable bipod. Can use Class 2-6 ammo or Class 4-8 ammo)
Spotting Scope (As the render distance most likely won’t get updated anytime soon, this one is much less plausible)
