Updating Te Aweroa to the deer hunting mecha that NZ is known as

The idea is to update Te aweroa to the hunting destination that New Zealand is known for.

1. Swap the wild turkeys for pheasants as we really don't have many wild turkeys around in this country but ALOT of pheasants.

2. Add a small population of Rocky Mountain Elk aka. Wapiti to the map as they are New Zealands biggest trophy species.

3. Add a small populations of Sambar deer to the coastal and river areas of the map.

4. Add Brushtail Possums as another small game option to hunt. They are nocturnal so it would give players a reason to specifically night hunt.

5. Add Tahr to the mountainous areas of the map as they're one of our most sought after trophy species.

This would essentially turn Te Aweroa into the dream NZ hunting reserve with a massive variety of deer to hunt

So wait a minute, you say the Elk that are in New Zealand are Roosevelt’s elk but other sources are saying they are Rocky Mountain elk, which is it

Roosevelt Elk l, alot have interbred with Red deer in the wild creating some impressive animals which would be a cool addition but I'd be happy with just an Elk on the map. Wapiti are basically every hunters dream trophy over here

I've just done a bit of google research that contradicts this but the heads that I have seen up on walls down south say Roosevelt.... so honestly I'm not too sure now lol

We don't have any predators here. The most aggressive animals we have are Bores lol. The possums would only really work if they were in trees as you never really see them on the ground. We have whitetail deer here in game reserves and on Stewart Island off the coast of the south but I'd rather not see them on the map as they are really the North American staple

Himalayan Tahr would be cool to see. They were originally planned for the map there's even an animal plaque made up that they used in one of the missions but they had issues to the fur apparently so they got canceled 🙃

That would be cool. I've recently been playing rancho for the first time in awhile and found that the pheasant and turkey hunting is what I gravitated towards. A flushing dog would definitely make me hunt upland birds alot more. A bailing dog would be ideal for this map like a collie or huntaway as they're use here and aussie for pig hunting alot 👌🏻

The overall rabbit population on Te Awaroa could be reduced (along with the Turkey population) but I'd still like to be able to hunt rabbits on the map, so I wouldn't want them to be removed entirely.

I feel the as much as having both turkey and pheasant, removing the turkey is the more realistic option. In 30 years I've seen 1 turkey in NZ and that wasn't wild, it had just got out of a farm lol

Yeah swap the turkey with pheasants, I hate pheasants irl. I've had them start squaking away and scare off fallow many times hence why I'd like them on the map so I can blow them to bits with the .470 🤣. I reckon dropping the red and fallow populations and adding the smaller populations of Elk, Sambar and potentially rusa would be the best option to have a realistic vision of an NZ reserve

Sambar would be amazing in Te Awaroa. The highland forests of the map resembles a little bit the victorian high country, with the difficult terrain and lots of ferns.

Sambar in NZ are generally near the coast and water ways so I'd expect the to be close to the rivers and coast. Up in the bush in the ranges is where you generally find your reds, goats, sika and elk

It has been discussed in several threads that the elk in New Zealand are Rocky Mountain Elk (with a fair bit of hybridization and with Red Deer)

This would be a great map for backfilling Elk. The perfect scenario for me would be a new map that has both Rocky and Rosie's and backfill Rockys on Te Awaroa and backfill Roosevelt on Yukon. That would give us three options for hunting Elk while having a fresh map also. Then if they ever get a GO it's 3 options to compete with the other GOs.

I feel leaving out the Rusa would be fine as they seem to be on of the Aussie main animals and I feel the map would be overcrowded with them added. They are seen as purely trophy animals where I live in NZ as the meat tastes gamey as all hell haha

I don't play that game but I did see the trailer. Sure was a lot of biome changes on the map. I sure hope EW continues with broader biome changes in the future. It definitely seems the other game is taking that route.

In fact the only thing Te is missing for me (besides elk and pheasant) is Whitetail, Sambar Deer, and Javan Rusa Deer as well as Wallaby, Himalayan Tahr and Arapawa Sheep as far as new species goes.

A slight overall to Te Awaroa’a geography would be nice if this came to fruition, an expansion of the map with some fjord-lands is the unused south and more mountainous areas and high altitude plains in the unused north. Te Awaroa feels very samey almost everywhere and this would add some more diversity to the map, and make some of the proposed animals more plausible.

California (Rocky Mountain, Roosevelts & Tule), British Columbia (Rocky Mountain and Roosevelts), Manitoba (Manitoban Elk), Kazakhstan (Tian Shan #1253737251867721820 ), Mongolia (Altai) and the Siberian Far East (Manchurian) could all work for another Elk map
