Welcome to the Land of the Rising Sun, it's not a place where people expect to go hunt, when thinking of a possible Asian map many would think of Central Asia and Mongolia. But I decided to suggest an East Asian location to expand our choices.

Located in Northern Tohoku and Southern Hokkaido Island during the Late Winter/Early Spring Season, take a walk through the beautiful Japanese landscape, it consist of biomes like cherry blossoms forests, snowcapped peaks, long running rivers and vast lakes, along with sprinkled farmlands across the map. The Northern and Southern part of the map will be split by a Strait that players will need to find a Ferry point to travel between the two regions.

A new GO species such as the Red fox or Wild boar could be introduced with this map.

Bears are dangerous in this map, as the Japanese Black Bear and Ussuri Brown Bear are responsible for many attacks in the country, so players must be careful...

Returning Species:
Tufted Duck - Class 1
Eurasian Wigeon - Class 1
Mountain Hare - Class 1
Tanuki (Raccoon Dog) - Class 2
Common Raccoon - Class 2
Red fox - Class 2
Wild Boar - Class 5
Sika Deer - Class 4

New Species:
Chinese Bamboo Partridge - Class 1
Green Pheasant - Class 1
Copper Pheasant - Class 1
Eurasian Woodcock - Class 1
Eastern spot-billed duck - Class 1
Northern Shoveler - Class 1
Baikal Teal - Class 1
Mandarin Duck - Class 1
Japanese Hare - Class 1
Japanese Badger - Class 2
Japanese Serow - Class 3
Japanese Macaque - Class 3
Yezo Sika Deer - Class 6 New Sika variant
Japanese Black Bear - Class 7
Ussuri Brown Bear - Class 8

Potential Species:
Nutria (Class 2)
Masked Palm Civet (Class 2)

A Gun for this reserve is up for suggestion!
So far for weapon suggestions we have

  • .22 lever action rifle (Class 2 - 4)
  • Type 99 bolt action rifle (Class 3 - 7)
  • Miroku A-bolt action shotgun (Class 1 - 7)

Anyways i hope you guys would enjoy my suggestion and comment anything that could be changed or added

I posted up a thread on a japan map before the rules changed also. Cherry blossoms would have to be a creative must to differentiate it from looking to similar to NE. There are 17 huntable animals in japan, you could also add brown bear, nutria (giant water rats), serow (goat antelope) and copper pheasant with the new GO being the wild boar to entice people to the map. The story could focus on population control of species as japan is having issues with over population of deer and wild boar destroying farm land 👍🏻

#

As for weapons they could add in new .44 and .22 Magnum lever action rifles as they are generally used to hunt pigs and goats in brush. (Here in NZ anyway along side a bailing dog would be ideal!)

analog brook
#

The guns sounds good for hunting medium game, which is perfect for Boars and Sika and along with the story of population control in Japan ever since Wolves were eradicated in the 20th Century.

Also with how amazing EW does to Landscapes and Enviroments, Cherry blossom forests would be a sight to see

I see where your coming from with the different islands but they've taken creative liberties with Te Aweroa also. The map is based in the South island and there is no Sika deer in the south island of New Zealand.... 😅😂 I'm sure they could squeeze a second bear in to have another bigger animal 👌🏻

@analog brook @tardy totem @covert smelt If ya made the brown bear a Ussuri Brown Bear for another different bear. Keep the Asian black bear (potential to use on other asian maps) and change the idea of the map from Honshu to a more generic "Japan as a whole" (like has been done on the NZ map) have the map have the biggest variations of sika deer and red fox in japan (and why not for gameplay purposes and a sales point the biggest variations in the game as a whole) add snow capped mountain tops as another map biome. Add a .44 mag and .22 (or some other small game caliber) lever action and to top off the beautiful new map with the exotic variations of existing species, launch the map with both red fox and wild boar GO animals to entice the grinders to the map. And that's my attempt at making the idea viable 👌🏻

#

Could also add Japanese Macaques (snow monkeys) as one of the unique species to the snow capped mountainous biomes to hunt 👍🏻 although I can imagine doing the animation for those would take a bit of work

#

Could also be the perfect map and opportunity to add in another dog with the ability to flush small game and birds out aswell as potentially a dog for bailing up pigs to up your chances of getting that great one boar ya know 😉. An amazing looking new map with the larger focus being on implementing more of the mechanics and additions into the game that the community have been asking for at once and to compliment the new map. What do you guys reckon??

analog brook
#

That actually sounds good

#

Yeah Hokkaido is probably the better region to set a Japanese map, a more interesting roster of game animals

spark pond

They could take creative liberties like what was done with the NZ map to make it work and make it viable 👌🏻

Now we've just gotta get more thumbs up on it!

@spark pond @analog brook I should also mention that the Sika Deer on Hokkaido are a different subspecies from the Japanese Sika Deer and are much bigger with a weight of 200kg being recorded, so having a Japanese Reserve be a mashup of Honshu and Hokkaido would be a good way to go

And if they were able to release the rifles new dogs I mentioned further up the thread along side it, It'd be a pretty good all in one content drop with a few new ways of going about the smaller game hunting 👌🏻

unique gorge
#

Can you add the mandarin duck

wicked dune
#

This reserve is another of my favourite recommendations. Japan is a really interesting and largely unexplored hunting location.

#

A few suggestions, while ducks are some of the most popular game animals in Japan (using shotguns but also very commonly with air rifles I’ve noticed) all geese species are fully protected.

#

Serow are also fully protected IRL but I have heard of special permits being given on very rare occasions to forestry companies for certain problem animals. Salt water crocodiles are fully protected in Australia too but hunting permits can be obtained for similar purposes I believe so if it’s good enough on Emerald Coast I think Japanese serow may make the cut.

#

Other species that could be added are Chinese bamboo partridges. They are a pretty popular gamebird species in Japan (even more so than Japanese quail I’d say).

#

^Bamboo partridge hunt so you may get a better idea.

#

Another invasive species commonly hunted are masked palm civets, they were introduced multiple times over the centuries and are slowly spreading throughout Japan. They are largely arboreal though so unless EW adds tree mechanics they could probably be missed.

analog brook
#

Ah i see thanks for the feedback, i shall revise this some more

analog brook
#

Sakurayama Reserve 桜山保護区 - Japan Reserve🌸

wicked dune
#

Also invasive Chinese Muntjac can be found and are regularly hunted on the Bōsō Peninsula. Mostly from animals escaped from animal parks.

wicked dune
#

Also I should say that the wildlife of Hokkaido differs greatly from the rest of Japan. More akin to the Amur River basin I’d say. The only species from your list found there are Sika and brown bear and a few of the small game animals. I think the Oū mountains in the Tohoku region of northern Honshu would be a better fit for the species listed. Or maybe just have two islands or something with different species lol

covert smelt
analog brook
#

It's a difficult choice since both of these regions in Japan have ample hunting oppurtunity and a unique species list, that for now this reserve is a mish mash of both Honshu and Hokkaido, but two separate islands could work kinda like Australia in classic that seperates into Piccabean and Bushrangers.

covert smelt
#

I was looking for images of Japanese Serow and it turns out they got quite the colour variation with white, gray, black and dark brown specimen known

wicked dune
#

My thoughts were like have an area to the north representing Hokkaido and an area to the south representing the Tohoku region with a strait dividing them. You could have something like a ferry landings in a few places that could fast travel you to a point on the other side.

#

Personally I’d just set the map entirely in Honshu though, while Hokkaido has brown bear we did already have Eurasian brown bears in Medved. We have got black bears on other maps too but Asian black bears are different enough to be their own species.

analog brook
#

Perhaps the map could look something like this, if we would separate into both Northern Honshu and Hokkaido.

wicked dune
analog brook
wicked dune
#

I’m still quite conflicted though as a Honshu map would be able to explore the the culture of the Matagi hunters of Tohoku as it’s story while a Hokkaido map could do the same for the indigenous Ainu people.

analog brook
#

Also the main storyline of the reserve, so far what i have thought for is population control as Sika and Wild boar numbers exploded and needed controlling and also bringing the young people of Japan into the hobby. I also thought about a fun side quest about the extinct Honshu wolf, the Warden would tell you they have heard mysterious howls and found strange footprints, and you go on a sort of adventure to figure out if it's real or a hoax, this side quest could also apply to the extinct Ezo wolf of Hokkaido as well.

wicked dune
#

That sounds great, both areas have loads going for them it’s a hard pick honestly 😅 I think some anachronisms can be expected though. Like the South Island of NZ doesn’t have sika IRL but Te Awaroa still had them in game.

wicked dune
covert smelt
analog brook
#

Euro Bisons in Hirch also made this choice much easier lol

frigid socket
#

Also, pretty sure black bears are restricted in Mississippi thanks to the Lousiana Black bear

wicked dune
#

That’s what I thought lol. The matagi people are known foremost as bear hunters but serow were also a very important quarry for them, even more so than sika. They were hunted right up to the 1970’s before they’re numbers became too low and they gained protected status. They’re numbers have really bounced back today though so they aren’t considered an endangered species despite their protected status.

# analog brook But yeah this was my initial idea for a Japanese map, Honshu is what people most...

The evolution of this map idea has come along amazingly! This is definitely my most wanted map in game now as the ideas coming along in here would make for amazing hunting and scenery variation especially with the map being divided between Honshu and Hokkaido. The story ideas are great and as for the liberties to hunt serow it could go down the private land owners route like emerald coast is. I feel like this along side the Mongolian map idea that is on the feed would do a great job of covering hunting in Asia and complete the area for the game 👌🏻

wicked dune
#

It certainly is a great idea for a reserve, I’d love to see it in game.

#

If you need more ideas for other potential game species in Japan I have a site with a comprehensive list of all game species found there. It’s entirely in Japanese but it’s easy enough to Google Translate it.

“Hokkaido region” of the map (basically the Northern part of the map)
Ezo Kaigan (“Ezo Coast'') - This biome consists of Hokkaido’s deciduous forests that are covered with oak, conifer, basswood and an undergrowth of dwarf bamboo at the west while to the east lies coastlines and vast plains. This region consists of two subregions that are named Kamuy Mori (“Gods (In Ainu language) Forest”) and Sake-Wan (“Salmon Bay”). Here you’ll be able to find a Ferry point to travel between the Hokkaido region and Tohoku region.

Onsen Kōchi (Hotspring Highlands) - This biome would consist of alpine conifer forests, mountains and alpine tundras, tourist attractions like lavender fields and natural hot springs can be found here as well. The three subregions are named Okami no Oka ("Wolf Hill"),**Hanabatake ("Flower Fields") ** and Onsen (“Hot Springs”).

#

“Tohoku region” of the map (Southern part of the map)
Tsuno-Wan (“Edge Bay”) - The Northern most coast of Honshu island and where you can take a ferry to the Hokkaido region of the map, the biomes are mostly rocky shores to the north, farmlands of rice, vegetables and fruits are located to the south along with patches of temperate forests. The two subregions here are named Kōsaten ("Crossing") and Nōson (“Farm Village”).

Sakuradani (“Cherry Blossom Valley”)- This biome represents the classic cherry blossom trees of Japan. The reserve’s namesake can be observed here, hunting amongst these beautiful trees as you walk through shades of pink flowers and white snow, this region is a tourist hotspot most of the year. There are two subregions here that are named Sakurayama (“Cherry Blossom Mountain”) and Akaimori (“Red forest”) .

Matagi Kariba (“Matagi Hunting Grounds”) - The biome consists of Lowlands, beech forests and rolling green hills. Here are the sacred hunting grounds of the Matagi people, Japan’s best hunters, you can find such quarries as Japanese Black bears and Serow, two prey favored by the Matagi. Sika deer and Boar can be found aplenty here as well along with Upland birds. The Beech Forests are home to scurrying critters like Tanuki, Raccoon,Hare and Badgers. Waterfowl can be found flying here to rest at the ponds and rivers. There are three subregions here - Seinaru Tani ("Sacred Valley"),Ryoshi Tōge (“Hunter’s Ridge”) and Kamigami no Taki (“Waterfall of the Gods”).

#

Species that can be found in the Northern region: Ussuri Brown bear, Yezo Sika Deer, Wild Boar, Red Fox, Tanuki, Raccoon,Japanese Hare, Waterfowl and Upland birds.

Species that can be found in the Southern region: Japanese Black Bear, Mainland Sika, Wild Boar, Japanese Serow, Red Fox, Japanese Badger, Tanuki, Raccoon, Japanese Hare, Waterfowl and Upland birds.

#

Could have the Arisaka type 99 as the map weapon (Japan's ww2 rifle)

analog brook
#

Oh it's a cool weapon, what class would this gun be able to take down? I guess Class 4 - 6 (or 7 if we want to stretch it to be able to take down bears).

#

Oh it's a bolt action rifle if we go by game standards these can take down big game.

spark pond
#

I'd go a 3-7 so we have another to choose for that class and would make it very viable for the map

analog brook
#

Sounds good, seems like a perfect gun to fit with the reserve's storyline about controlling Sika and Boar numbers.

wicked dune
#

Another interesting weapon to come with this map could be a bolt-action shotgun. Due to Japan’s strict firearms laws, you can only own and hunt with a shotgun without incident for 10 years before you are allowed to own and use a rifle. As such bolt-action shotguns loaded with sabot slugs are very common with hunters.

#

This example is a Miroku A-bolt, made by a Japanese manufacturer for their domestic market.

#

This particular shotgun is only capable of firing sabot slugs. EW could make their own weapon also capable of firing shot as well. Could make a fun weapon for turkey on other maps and would give them incentive to buff the underpowered buckshot and slug ammo currently in the game.

#

Plus it looks pretty cool, pretty crazy having a magazine fed shotgun lol

#

Would also be interesting as they actually have half-rifled barrels. Essentially a long-range shotgun.

spark pond
#

That's a cool idea! Would definitely make shotguns a bit more viable as I personally only really use them for flocks of birds currently

wicked dune
#

This one wouldn’t be a class 1 to 9 like the drilling rifle but it’s certainly a Jack of all trades. You’d sacrifice range for the ability to use a wide variety of shells for most classes available in the game.

spark pond
#

All for more options outside rifles even though they're my go too

wicked dune
#

It would be pretty fun, I’m all for more variety when it comes to weapons. An arisaka would be cool too though the earlier Murata rifle was much more common amongst hunters in Japan, if you look up images of matagi hunters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries most all of them were armed with sporterised single-shot Muratas. Interestingly enough, back in the day before commercial firearms became more widely available it was very common in Japan to convert milsurp rifles like the Murata rifles into shotguns. Japan also didn’t have a standardised list of shotgun gauges back then so you would see all sorts of crazy varieties like 28 gauge or 14 gauge etc.

#

I should add, the A-bolt could potentially use rifle scopes too.

spark pond
#

If they made this map and had both options (say tied to a mission in each region) and a new dog to go with it (that little doggo in that hunting vid you put up would be cool as a POINTER class for dogs) it would be an amazing addition as it would add in a whole new way of hunting not only on this map but others too!

wicked dune
#

Dogs still are very common when hunting in Japan so they’d be a great addition. This map may not have the large variety of new game species many like to see but introducing new ways to hunt counts a lot toward gameplay variety I believe.

spark pond
wicked dune
#

Honestly that’s my problem with what most players want from CotW. Everyone seems to want more variety in large game animals which is why maps in Africa or the Arctic are much more popular. But if you think about it, hunting say greater kudu isn’t much different to hunting the myriad of other deer or antelope species already in the game aside from the appearance of the animal. I definitely do want to see those kinds of reserves too but smaller reserves like this one or my Scotland recommendation could add a lot of variety in terms of gameplay which is an area I think really shouldn’t be neglected.

#

Not saying my recommendation added much variety lol, but I added woodcock to my species list. They are extremely different in how you would approach hunting them compared to any animal we have currently. Most people just see a small bird and think it’s boring though in favour of say muskoxen or kudu.

analog brook
wicked dune
#

Yeah they’d be a great addition, there are a few interesting bird species you can hunt in Japan. Mergansers are still quite popular.

#

Not egrets sorry, forgot what they were called lol

analog brook
#

Cormorants?

wicked dune
#

Nah, the bird I’m thinking of is kinda like a heron with a short neck. Can’t remember what they are called now lol. You could hunt them up until last year I believe.

#

Black-crowned night herons is what I was thinking of lol 😅

spark pond
# wicked dune Honestly that’s my problem with what most players want from CotW. Everyone seems...

Those are my thoughts too! My favorite maps are NEM,Yukon,NZ and Hirsch as they present different hunting styles and are more challenging if your not hunting drink zones. I prefer the maps that are unique in looks and have more bush as I find the more open maps are basically a target range. Currently back on Hirsch for the first time in years and am realizing why I like this game so much. The thick bush areas with grassy clearings or farmland edges are how we hunt here in NZ and getting that shot on a red or fallow that comes up out of the bush into the light beaming through the trees is so satisfying. I would prefer they fleshed out the current systems of the game ie. Dogs, weapons, clothing, vehicles for more options on each map. I go to these maps to hunt the maps whereas I find Africa, SRP, Parque, Medved I go to hunt specific species and end up getting bored as the scenery is bland and similar map wide. It's an each to their own thing I suppose though

#

Or created more dense unique maps like this one and/or your idea of Scotland for DIFFERENT hunting experiences

It does sounds like a good weapon here, a local Japanese gun and able to take down most of the reserve's animals

Decided to look up the Murata rifle and it looks like a good weapon as well, i guess if i have to choose a gun for this reserve, Shotguns are definitely a top choice.

Yeah that sounds good, I was thinking this reserve could have two "Warden" characters like with Mississippi and now Emerald Coast. One that would guide you in the Southern region and one in the North, both of these characters could be respectively Matagi and Ainu who are thinking of turning their land into a hunting reserve and you are invited to hunt. Of course the Points of interests of this map would reference a lot of their culture and in general Japanese history & myths too.

#

And yeah the side missions being basically hunt X amount of Deer and boar in a region would be fun.

#

or harvest a Gold/Diamond rating Black bear and Japanese serow for a Matagi based mission, since these two species are highly regarded by them

spark pond
#

That'd be a great idea! Could have the final mission like Parque where you have to get a gold/diamond of each of the species with the final word as the tribes trying to entice the younger generation to hunt and help out with the population in their lands. As an added challenge each species could have to be shot in a specific region or with the weapon/weapons given in the dlc

wicked dune
#

Since this map heavily features cherry blossoms I think it would make sense to set it very late in the hunting season. In Japan the hunting season usually ends in early February with cherry blossoms typically blooming around mid March at the earliest. You could just say this map is set during a long hunting season which isn’t too unusual for Japan as they’re deer season is already long as fuck when compared to most other countries. Early Spring snowfalls are not unusual in Northern Japan, despite most of the snow cover beginning to thaw this time of year, so the Yukon features still wouldn’t be out of place.

#

Though IRL deer aren’t rutting and are usually casting their antlers this time of year so it still wouldn’t make total sense.

Yezo on the Northern island region and Mainland Sika on the Southern island region

covert smelt

#

Definitely, though EW is pretty inconsistent with subspecies. People seem to love having the different subspecies of elk and turkey, plus we have 2 different subspecies of ibex with 4 horn configurations on the same map so I wouldn’t say it’s much of a stretch to do the same for sika on this reserve.

spark pond
#

I think the "japanese" sika could just be the sika already in game as it's where they originate from anyway. The Yezo being able to get significantly larger would make for a cool animal and could have their own unique fur variations to differentiate them and just increase the sika model size. Thoughts? @analog brook

According to Japanese hunting law, only black bears, brown bears, wild boars, and stags may be shot with rifles. In addition, rifles smaller than 5.9mm and larger than 12.7mm may not be possessed for hunting purposes. There are major restrictions on the firearms that can be used. I think it would be interesting to incorporate local characteristics to make it unique.

#

Japan's hunter population is decreasing year by year and the majority are elderly, so some municipalities have been making efforts to train young hunters in recent years. Bear sightings and attacks are also increasing, and an angler recently died. Apparently there is an increasing number of urban bears called "urban bears." These stories could also be used for stories.

Bears have really been in the news lately. When a bear appears, local hunters are dispatched at the request of the local government. However, the cost of their labor became an issue at city council meetings, and some municipalities did not request them to be dispatched even when bears were spotted. There was also news that residents were having trouble because hunters could not be dispatched without a request.

Sika Season: It’s a long Deer season and also part of managing the overpopulation of Sika Deer in Japan.
-Hunt 10 Yezo Sika Deer with a rifle

I’ve been making a few topographic maps for my favourite reserve ideas. This reserve was the most challenging so far due to it being two landmasses but I think it turned out pretty good.

#

Hokkaidō in the north and Tōhoku in the south. Tōhoku is centred around the large conical volcano, sakura-yama, the reserves namesake. The south is much more populated and has larger cleared rural areas. Hokkaidō is much more wild and is heavily forested and made up of many smaller mountain ranges.

#

Ideally I’d like the strait to be wider and appear less like a river but I’m happy with this for now. I may widen it in the future.

This is perfect for visualising this map! I can see where the regions i came up with will be located

Hokkaido and the Tohoku region (Aomori Prefecture) are connected by the Shinkansen bullet train and other means. In addition, the Tohoku region is known for its rice production, while Aomori Prefecture, which borders Hokkaido, is very famous for its apples. In addition, the lavender fields in Furano, Hokkaido, are a very popular tourist destination. Also, there are no Ninja in Japan😂

cyan canyon
#

Some additional landmarks.
Goryokaku: A fortress where a civil war took place at the end of the samurai period, and a very popular tourist attraction.
Matsumae Castle: Another castle where a civil war took place, and a popular tourist attraction.
Namahage: A very famous event in Akita Prefecture where people wear scary masks and costumes to drive away evil spirits.
All those places that have nothing to do with hunting😅

That would be cool like how Hirsch and Cuatro Colinas have European castles, this map could have Japanese ones to contrast it and landmarks is probably what makes a COTW map unique, like yeah nothing to do with hunting but it explores the culture and history of the region it is set in, makes you feel like you're really there.

Honestly I'm glad people are liking this Map suggestion haha, and I love the evolution of it deciding between Honshu or Hokkaido to including both regions on the same map. Also thought of an interesting feature for this map: Interactive Hot Springs that acts like the bed in game that lets you rest and reset time as well.

There is only one hot spring in the world famous for its use by monkeys. It is Snow Monkey Mountain. It is actually a little south of this map, but I will tacitly accept a slight regional discrepancy. It would be interesting if it existed as an un-huntable object. It might take your rifle and run away😅

Four seasons could be interesting. Not merely the green leaves turn red, but the grass along the water's edge withers and the trees in the forests defoliate. This would affect the degree of visibility and thus the hunting. Such a feature would make this map stand out for its uniqueness. This is a new challenge for EW.

Story Mission (Most likely the final mission) - The Lost Wolves

During the 20th century, Japan had lost both of its native wolf species the Ezo Wolf and the Honshu Wolf due to policies during the Meiji period which led to its persecution and eventual demise. But many believe surviving populations persists in the untouched wilderness, recently farmers and tourists on both Northern and Southern regions of this reserve believe they found signs of what might be these supposed extinct wolves, we would like you to go check it out. You'd start off finding a Sika or Boar carcass with canine footprints around, you also collect camera traps set up by researchers in these areas.

Mission ends with hearing faint howls in the distance in both the North and South, or the camera traps you've collected show blurry images of canine-like creatures. The Mystery of whether Japanese wolves are still here is open-ended. The Warden(s) thanks you for being here and helping them throughout the story, and wishes that more younger people in Japan will become hunters to help with managing animal populations.

Rewards: In game credits

Jaxy's preferences do not determine anything.
There are still 2 maps left in the studio's supposed development list (if the next reserve is Artic), I assume that after those reserve the ones requested by the community will come out if they continue with the development of the game after December 2024..
For now, let's contribute everything we can in all the threads so that they have enough reference content 💪

tardy totem
tardy totem

#

This is the survey that was published after Mississippi, they later released Revontuli (Nordic), New England (Appalachian) and Emerald Coast (Australia), so if we take that list into consideration and add that they are introducing Classic content in CotW We have 3 more reservations left...
Also taking into account that 3 packs of cosmetics were released referring to reserves of the game, then we can assume that there are two more similar packs left + those corresponding to the 2 new reserves that would complete 3 cosmetics..
(We know that there is a cosmetic pack for each reserve of the game due to the error that occurred on PS where several users received all the existing packs and one leaked them).

If we follow the trend of reserves that we already have in Classic we still need ValDesBois (Europe) but UK is always named in the surveys so I don't rule out that it is, but also White Rime (Artic) which for now is the most popular, could be any xD.
Personally I think the next one is Artic due to the changing sounds in the wind and inside the structures and the textures that freeze during snowfall..

If we take into account the maps we have now, each part of each map is based on an EcoRegion, and no map is the same, the vegetation is similar but the geographic region is different, so I suppose the suggestions we make here about maps with missing ecoregions are the most likely to be developed one day.

Following this logic, Japan is a more than acceptable and completely different map to be developed and will look different from other maps

Tbh the devs did do a complete 180° for this reserve. They put out zero statement that this was the direction they were going to take so how would anyone have known.

So apparently on some islands near Hokkaido people hunt the Stellar's Sea Lion. This is done to protect fishing gear though the hunters also eat the sea lions. Do what you want with that information

I saw the Hokkadio Wolf in the Ghost of Yotei trailer myself

A shame both Japanese Wolves are extinct

Apparently the Ainu used to let their female dogs breed with Hokkaido wolves to have wolf dogs

It is believed that the last Hokkaido Wolves lived on Sakhalin Island until 1945

In Revontuli Coast and Salzwiesen Park, they need to change the name of this species to Siberian Raccoon Dog. COTW uses the name Japanese Raccoon Dog, which is incorrect.

What do you think about adding the extinct subspecies Honshu Wolf, also known as the Japanese Wolf (Canis lupus hodophilax), as the ghost species in a mission, similar to the Fiordland moose in Te Awaroa? Additionally, could another extinct subspecies, the Hokkaido Wolf (Canis lupus hattai), be included for a separate mission?
Photo Credit: Matsudaira Archive (Document Repository)
A photograph taken on the day the Japanese wolf was killed, dated to the year 1910.
While bones, pelts, and taxidermy specimens of the Japanese wolf have been passed down in various locations, there are no known photographs.
If this truly is a Japanese wolf, it would be the only known photograph in existence.

With the New reserve announced, i thought i'd come back for a revisit for this Reserve concept, which i have many thoughts over the days, this Reserve could work as a Mini Reserve like Salwiezen as most species hunted in Japan are small game with Deer, Boar and Bears as the only big game species on the map.

analog brook
#

Welcome to Sakurayama Hunting Reserve located in the Land of the Rising Sun, a land rich in history and culture that includes hunting, today hunting is considered a niche hobby in the country but to the indigenous peoples of Japan like the Ainu and Matagi hunting is a way of life, and with population of Deer and Boar increasing to due the extinction of major predators like the wolf, hunting is a way to help control them as our Reserve Wardens are in need of desperate help.

Located in Northern Tohoku and Southern Hokkaido, which the two regions of the Reserve is split by the Tsugaru Strait, hunters can take a ferry to travel in between the two regiobns, take a walk through the beautiful and unspoiled Japanese natural landscape, visit historical Samurai castles and Shinto shrines while you stalk Red Fox and Tanuki through cherry blossom forests, while hiking in Sakurayama stop and listen to the call of the Sika Deer in temperate forests, chase Boars and other pests in rice fields, observe a plethora of upland birds and waterfowl throughout the reserve. I understand you have faced dangerous predators across the world before, and here in Japan it is no different, Bears are a dangerous species here, as the Japanese Black Bear and Ussuri Brown Bear are responsible for many attacks in the country, so hunters must be careful while entering their territory.

If you are tired from hunting, take a break in one of the many natural Onsen that you can find in the Reserve, though beware of surprise guests like troops of Japanese macaques that may join you.

BEARS IN JAPAN
These are two species of bears that inhabit Japan and their main characteristics.

There was a Kiwi bloke who was attacked by a bear in Japan just recently. I doubt the army would be an effective deterrent to bears though in all honesty.

#

Never mind, this is a much better use of the army in such a situation.

#

Last I read Japan’s bear populations were decreasing. It’s good to hear populations are bouncing back, though I can see the difficulty with human-bear conflict in such a largely urbanised country with little to no management in place.
