As for why I didn’t include a single Badger species, well there is a post that covers badgers: https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1107676831424970836

List

  • North American Porcupine: Layton, Silver Ridge, Yukon & NEM
  • American Beaver: Layton, Silver Ridge, NEM, Parque (Invasive to Patagonia)
  • Coypu/Nutria & Swamp Rabbit: Mississippi
  • 9-banded Armadillo: Mississippi, Rancho
  • Snowshoe Hare: Yukon
  • Culpeo Fox: Parque Fernando
  • Medved: Sable
  • Pine Marten: Hirschfelden & Revontouli
  • European Beaver: Revontouli
  • Vurhonga: Crested Porcupine, Grey Duiker, Vervet Monkey & Rock Hyrax
  • Yellow-bellied Marmot: Silver Ridge Peaks
  • Woodchuck: Mississippi Acres, New England Mountains
  • Feral Cat: Emerald Coast
  • Rhesus Macaque: Sundarpatan (Terai and Pahad)
  • Himalayan Marmot: Sundarpatan (Himal)
  • Nutria (Mississippi, Parque and Salzwiesen)
  • European Badger (Salzwiesen Park & Hirschfelden)
#

North American Porcupine
Class 2
Reserves: Layton Lakes, Silver Ridge Peaks, New England Mountains & Yukon Valley
They were chosen due to how often they get hunted in North America, though they are strictly hunted for meat. It would be a neat addition and I don’t want the African Crested Porcupine to be the only one.

#

American & European Beaver
Class 2
Reserves (American): Layton Lakes, New England Mountains, Yukon Valley
Reserves (European): Revontouli, Salzwiesen Park
Possible Reserve (American): Parque
The Beaver is an infamous creature among the player base and getting a chance to shoot at these buck-tooth tent wreckers is a dream for many
The American Beaver were imported to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina and Chile hence why I listed Parque as a potential reserve for the American Beaver
The European Beaver could potentially be introduced to Hirschfelden alongside Revontouli

#

Coypu/Nutria
Class 2
Reserve: Mississippi Acres
A large rodent that can cause billions of damage in the Southern US, they were imported from South American for the fur trade. They would inhabit any body of water

#

Swamp Rabbit
Class 1
Reserve: Mississippi Acres
A larger member of the rabbit family, it is larger then the Eastern Cottontail but have shorter ears and are better at swimming, and as a result inhabit many of the same areas you’ll find alligators

#

9-banded Armadillo
Class 1
Reserves: Mississippi Acres & Rancho del Arroyo

#

Snowshoe Hare
Class 1
Reserves: Yukon Valley
A common lagomorph across a good stretch of North America, I chose to add them to Yukon as that reserve needs variety. (They also change from brown in the summer to white in the winter)

#

Culpeo Fox
Class 2
Reserve: Parque Fernando
As far as indigenous species for Parque go, the Puma and the Teal are the only ones that are found in Patagonia, and while the Peccary are found in Argentina, they live much further north, so why not include a large fox species that can hunt young guanaco
Note: We could also possibly backfill European Hare to Parque (would of made sense to anyways)

#

Sable
Class 1
Reserve: Medved Taiga
A weasel species found all across the Siberian Taiga, their inclusion would mark them as the smallest species on Medved Taiga, and anyone who played Medved when it first came out will remember how there use to be little weasels running around on the reserve (I was going to also include Corsac Fox but they unfortunately do not live in the Taiga)

#

European Pine Marten
Class 1
Reserves: Revontouli & Hirschfelden
Another small member of the weasel family, they could provide for a challenge target to practice your shooting ability one…..as long as you find one to shoot at

#

Yellow-Bellied Marmot
Class 1
Reserve: Silver Ridge Peaks
A large burrowing rodent, they would be found in the mountains alongside the bighorns and mountain goats. Gameplay wise it would be similar to hunting European Rabbits, and therefore you should look for their burrows.

The next 4 are all found on Vurhonga

#

Cape Crested Porcupine
Class 2
Found in the wooded areas of Vurhonga, these large rodents are very able to fend off a pride of lions, and can cause serious damage when cornered, so using a low calibre rifle from a safe distance is the smart idea, and don’t forget the night vision, they are nocturnal

Vervet Monkeys
Class 2
Often seen foraging across Vurhonga in large troops, they are often hunted due to how much damage they can do to farms and property, and their intelligence makes them difficult to hunt.

Rock Hyrax
Class 1
They would only be found on the big mountain on Vurhonga, a place where they often congregate around a shared denning site, which means if you can hunt rabbits in Hirschfelden, you can hunt these, and try coming in the morning as that is when they are out

Grey Duiker
Class 2
A small antelope found in the thicker parts of Vurhonga, they are tough to hunt and will often flee into areas that their predators will have a hard time finding them in.

Really great list, but are there any small game for Cuatro?

Oh okay

Another possibility for Parque Fernando: Patagonian Mara (Dolichotis patagonum). They look like short-eared rabbits with deer legs

I think this list is one of the best "backfilling suggestions" I've seen for small game

Hello MooseDragon247,

We appreciate you taking time to share with us your suggestions and ideas on how we could improve our game. Our development Team is constantly working on new content and they are open to ideas!

We've passed your feedback to the rest of the team. If you have any other ideas, feel free to share them with us!

Hey @buoyant bobcat I do recall someone making a post regarding squirrels a while back, plus I’m not entirely sure weather they could be legally huntable in Spain. Likewise I’m not entirely sure weather Patagonian Maras could be hunted in Argentina or not. If they are I will add the maras to Parque

It is not possible to recreate the arboreal behavior of the Squirrels, the only current possibility is to implement one of these systems

Hunting Patagonian Mara is prohibited in 8 of the 11 provinces in which it lives, only private land owners can hunt it, for consumption only, not for sale or transportation.
It is not included in the legal hunting species and it is not possible to obtain a license to hunt it.

#

Plus: They only inhabit the steppe plains, where there are short grasses and little vegetation, it does not coincide with the Parque biome what is forested highlands

serene lark
#

So I will not be adding the Patagonian Mara to the list

I really like all of MooseDragon's suggestions. Thanks for using some of my own ideas for inspiration. One more small game species that was not mentioned but could be incorporated into existing maps is the Groundhog (also known as the Woodchuck). It could be added to both Mississippi Acres (in the open fields and forested areas) and New England Mountains (all throughout the lowland areas of the map). I think it would probably be Class one, like the similar Yellow-Bellied Marmot.

I would really like to see new small game species on each map, I think they would fill out the maps and give it some amazing immersion, but as they've said a couple of times, there's no time to design new species...
BUT what if we had a "Small Game License DLC" that allows financing the addition of these species?
That allows hunting these new animals and to those who do not have it, the legend "invalid objective" appears as it happened in Classic?

Of course the additions of animals are for all the maps since they are inserted into the game version, but you won't be able to hunt them without the "License", do you think this system would be fair?
Would they pay for this type of DLC?
I always wanted to know what the community would think about it 🤔

I believe that this would be the only way to finance the amount of work required and I wouldn't mind paying for it.

I will probably update both when Sundarpatan comes out and I have had a chance to check the reserve out

Since feral Cat is on here….What about Feral Dog?! Or is this too controversial?! Class 2/3 BTW

I have finally added species to this list regarding Sundarpatan, starting with the one primate

Rhesus Macaque: A primate found across southern Asia, they would fit in well on Sundarpatan and in terms of their distribution they would replace the woolly hare in the Terai Region (This will mean that Woolly Hares would only be found in Pahad and Himal), but can also be found in the parts of Pahad that also have Nilgai. They do get hunted due to the damage they can cause to fields and orchards.

  • Weapon Class 2

Himalayan Marmot: In terms of gameplay it would be similar to hunting European Rabbits, just with a few extra burrows. They would be exclusivly found in the more open areas of the Himal Region of Sundarpatan

  • Weapon Class 1

Been a while so I am bumping this back up

serene lark
#

I added two new species to this list with the release of Salzwiesen Park

Nutria/Coypu
Class: 2 (could also be a Class 1 Species)
Reserves: Mississippi Acres, Salzwiesen Park, Parque Fernando
A large semi-aquatic rodent native to South America, introduced populations occur in the Southern US and Europe due to escapes from fur farms where they can cause destruction to the local ecosystem

European Badger
Class 2
Reserves: Salzwiesen Park & Hirschfelden
A large burrowing mustelid native to most of Europe, they can be just as aggressive as their North American and African relatives.

What about The American Badger?!
