Slightly lower the health of moose to match up with reality, two other animals in class 8 that respond well to class 8 weapons. they're insanely hard to bring down with the majority of class 8 weapons as is and this small change will make them much more reasonable to hunt/grind
Edit: The main issue everyone seems to have is penetration, occasionally water/cape buffalo will drop easier with the very same weapons, there needs to be a significant change in gameplay to make them a more viable target for any player. either a weapon or animal class overhaul. IRL moose are tough animals but they DO NOT run a km when shot in the lungs with a .45-70
thanks
#Moose health nerf

Moose are larger than both species of elk and gemsbok by a significant margin. As such they have more health to match their overall size and durability. Hell, me and Kingfisher were discussing how they could even be a class 9 animal
That's not even a bad idea, it just seems like every rifle in the game has trouble bringing them down, even some class 9s woud need a buff. Honestly could go either way for me, a nerf or class change would accomplish the same things as far as i'm concerned so I could easily delete this
Moose are quite difficult to take with the guns allowed and it kinda ticks me off honestly even the 338 struggles. Personally I’d like to see elk and gemsbok dropped down to like class 7 and move brown bear and grizz to class 8 with moose. I’d also like to see a 375 for class 8 and 9 and possibly remove the 300, 338, 7mm, and 45-70 from being class 9 rifles they just aren’t capable and irl illegal for dangerous game in africa.
Three of those calibres (300, 338 & 45-70) are used for moose, grizzly/brown bear and bison, and some countries in Africa allow you to hunt lion with something like a 338 (though the 375 is recommended). I do agree though with changing the elk and gemsbok to Class 7 and the 3 brown bear subspecies (Grizzly Bear, European and Siberian Browns) to Class 8
I do recall adding a bit about how the 300 should be made a Class 6-9 rifle in my Zambian reserve (https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1099469747323670729)
Yeah I’d move the 300 to class 6 on the low end it’s pretty common for the class 6 species. I know plenty of moose and bear have been taken with a 300 or 338 and it works fine irl but most guys tend to prefer a 375 especially up in Alaska
The 45-70 is also popular from what I have been able to find, after all some of the “Guide Guns” like the Marlin Model 1895 is chambered in 45-70 and was designed with Alaska in mind. I can understand why the 375 is used in Alaska for brown bear though
Yeah with the hotter 45-70 it can be a great option for some guides
Even the 7mm which is class 9 struggles against Moose .... They are tanks in game .... I've never hunted them IRL so not sure if this is they way they really are
It's the games fault for making the guns so weak, very unrealistic. IRL you could drop a bear with a .22 if hit in the head, I see where your coming from
Uhhh drop a bear with a .22 to the head??? Maybe if you could get close enough to stick it in his ear but even then I wouldn't want to try it irl ... 🤔
Something else with moose specifically is how durable they are when it comes to penetration. The 300 and 338 even at relatively close range can’t get enough penetration for a double lung shot on moose which plays into why they’re so slow to down with anything but a heart shot. It’s strange because those rifles can penetrate deeper into animals like buffalo and bison so much so that they’re even capable of frontal heart shots on them despite all the extra flesh in the way.
.22 shoot just as fast as any other round, and have about the same penetration, I promise you, ask any gun expert that hunts
Just smaller size of led amount
Made a small edit to main post, is it more agreeable or less?
Man I hate to tell you this, but i personally have seen a .22lr bullet, CCI minimag HV, stop cold on the skull of a twelve pound raccoon after firing point blank. (nuisance trappped), if a .22 kills a bear it's only a fluke, it happens, will happen again, but that doesn't make a rimfire a viable big game round
What you open it's head to find out?
No, after a shot through the lungs I skinned it so i could cook it later, the bullet was wadded up on the back of the skull.
Could be a dud round, it happens. My dad once dropped a cougar with a .22 out of tree 30yds away
Cougar are much lighter animals, and bears are built to fight each other, cougars avoid it
Little late to this thread... but I used to work at a small town meat locker and all we used for the cattle that would come in was a .22lr. It would drop them like a sack of potatoes every single time. Truthfully it's all about shot placement though, X between the eyes and the ears. Anywhere else but there and it wouldn't punch through. If it works on a cow I imagine it'd work all the same on a bear.
