Currently the injury / damage mechanics in COTW are pretty underwhelming. When you are attacked or run over by an animal there is no real penalty.

This might be fine for some, but I propose an optional .... ** optional** ... OPTIONAL! ... serious wounds mechanic that would actually remove levels/ points from the hunters skills / perk tree . The percentage of points lost would be in proportion to the current level of the hunter and how many hits they took in the attack.

So when all health is lost you would never lose more than 25% or possibly even 50% of your current level / points. Of course no level / point loss is permanent you would just need to play as normal to recoup those level/point losses ....

With this Optional injury mechanic the effects of losing levels / skill & perk points can be avoided or mitigated by using a med kit within 2 minutes of the attack ... Actually make carrying med kits useful

Did I say Optional ??? Yes! To make sure this option can't be turned on by accident. Give a warning message when its turned on and while active re-issue the warning message each time you login into a reserve ....

Also consider giving all aggressive species a danger rating/modifier that will increase the % of skill / Level loss when attacked .... So for example you might be more likely to survive a Kangaroo attack than being attacked by a Cape Buffalo or Tiger ? ....

Well it's possible it can become more detailed as time goes on but in my OP I knew that there would be lots who would not care for the idea and so I stressed that it would be optional .... And I deliberately went with a simple injury model with the idea that the devs wouldn't want to spend a lot of time on an optional feature ...

Another thing to consider would be a damage over time [dot] mechanic that would increase health lost as time goes by. so you can only eliminate the dot by resting at an outpost or using a medkit . Right now getting attacked by an animal is really kind of meaningless ....

I read of RL dangerous encounters with all kinds of wildlife .... I know those who are grinding for trophies may want to have the option to turn this off ....

But organic hunters should have the option of making their hunt more exciting and unpredictable .... Surviving a tiger attack should set you back a little bit .....

Imagine failing mission/injuring an APEX predator like a tiger, only to unlock a hidden, now Man-eater mission that starts with your last <POS> before passing out as a new feed zone and a much more brazen adversary.

I just appreciate that we have a health system. The amount of times I've been caught off guard by a boar in classic and you're insta-RTB from it. At least I can retaliate to an attack in COTW like that moose that came out of the bushes on me not too long ago. Though having a fall down animation would be more immersive.

I'd love this for hardcore however I'd like to take it further. Broken bones, constant bleed dmg if left unintended. Upon death a loss of XP would be more forgiving than levels & perk points. Along with a recovery $ cost for revival. Animations would be a bonus with key a bind to attempt to dodge the Suprise/1st attack. If you failed to react you sustain fatal injuries or death. If you succeed you avoid the fatal blow and you then have the free play to counter as you do currently. It would be too easy to have an insta kill counter if you succeeded though it would be cool to see.

The reason the injuries arent serious is because its a hunting game, not a survival game

Im not saying its useless. But more realistic injuries would be random slips bumps bruises falls and such πŸ˜‚ and im not sure but i assume the devs made some animals aggressive is just to show that it can happen idk. But its pretty easy to grind animals like wolves when they surround you. And still, getting hit by one wolf honestly doesnt take that much health from the character.

Side note: i would like to see a survival game themed like cotw. Would be pretty neat

I would like my Tiger Hunts in Nepal to be a challenge ..... and when I hear that growl from behind me I want that "Oh Crap!! " feeling .... Same with any dangerous animal hunt ... Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh Sh&% !

I'm confused by what you mean .... if your one hit killed then a med kit doesn't help you .... If you only take partial damage then you can use fast travel to quickly heal back to full health ... literally no reason to buy or use med kits ....

Just got ambushed by a charging Cape .... and while fighting that one was blindsided by another .... Run over twice and no real consequences ???? How ridiculous ...

I know some people just want to jump from tent to tent and kill indiscriminately with no real consequence but as an **option ** why cant we have something more difficult and realistic ???

**New random mission / challenge and Text to go along with this serious wounds mechanic: **

We have a dangerous situation here on the reserve. There is a large predator [ enter pred here ] that has lost it's fear of humans and has already attacked and injured one hiker. This animal is extremely dangerous and needs to be put down ....

If you get too close and it alerts it will attack .... There has been an handsome reward posted for removal of this dangerous animal ...... The last sighting was in this general location .... Good Luck !!!
