#Rares Highlighted in the Harvest Screen.

Back in a day when the game was just released, the only rare furs for animals we knew in the game were the basic Piabald, Leucistic, Albino and Melanistic ... years later, today we have tons of animals in the game and they all have their unique fur/plumage types. It has become really hard, almost impossible, to remember which one of those fur/plumage types are rare for which animal, and we don't want to shoot a rare and not save the trophy for the lodge not knowing it was a rare at the moment and regret some time later when we find out.

The suggestion here is that the rare fur/plumage types should be highlighted in the harvest screen so the players know if they found a rare animal or no. COTW

These are 2 options on how this can be implemented into the harvest screen.
• Written, highlighted note next to the plumage/fur type stating that it is indeed a rare.
• Having the rare plumage/fur types themselves be highlighted a different color so it stands out implying that it's not common.

Here are the edited examples of how it can look like in the harvest screen.

P.S. The color of the highlight used in these examples is the iconic Call of The Wild orange because it is also present on the right side of the harvest screen and can go with the overall picture in the game.

Yeah I really like that they've been doing some more unique rares for species, but sometimes it's just really hard to tell if something is a rare because they don't look all that different from commons

You would think something like this would be in the works if not already in testing? As stated there are so many various fur colors that the game needs a gui hint for the users. I also think that when using the 'disturbed vegetation' perk it should say it, along with the fur type.

Yeah, I was grinding mallards on Revontuli the other day, and i harvested an amazing piebald gold mallard, only figured out that part when I checked my latest harvests to see how many in total I shot.

I honestly think that would be a great addition to the harvest screen to have rares highlighted as such.
Common - Green (same)
Uncommon - Yellow
Rare - Orange
Very Rare - Red

Plus, an addition to that, it would be amazing if the rares were highlighted in the lodges while viewing the trophies with the Investigate Mode, so ... let's add this to https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1084684824561864724 as well.

I'm probably going to get flack for this suggestion, but tying into your comment about disturbed vegetation, maybe only have the rarity displayed if you have both the Disturbed Vegetation and Track Knowledge skills learned.

I understand the point is to make it convenient when you look at it, and implementing this idea won't preclude others from creating charts and spreadsheets that you'd have to look at to confirm anyway. But if it's already done that way and people are using that method to verify, then make it a bonus in game that ties into what's already established. Make the skill feel more impactful to actually have it.

If you don't have the game skills and don't realize it, then it's simulating your experience as a hunter like you would IRL. The more you hunt the more you know and remember.

I'm all for them redoing the harvest screen again. I am not a fan of the new screen for several reasons. 1. I'd love it to tell the rarity. 2. now the information on the left is too low and if you are a streamer you and on that side your head is covering up the information on screen. 3. the way they have done bullet hits on the right to be over and under the other information is just stupid. Change that back to the way it was or fix it some other way.

Hello there! I wanted to talk about something that's been talked about a lot so please don't hate me or do. 🙄. So here we go regarding the rare fur type spawn ratio. It's not the same. I know I know what ur going to say but there is no way it's always been the same and my lodges will prove that. the spawn ratio is Impossible. Let me take that back you will once in a while get a Pieball or Malnestic Moose and don't get me started on some of the animal's rare colors like the Malnistic Moose. THE BIRDS I could go on and on. 🤯. Check out the Geese sometime.
I wanna say the time frame of the variation was different from the Africa Map around that time. ( I could be wrong on the time frame) it got worse with each new map the rare fur type became impossible to come across. and it's frustrating?? 😊 Why make more fur variations if you can't ever get any?

Please I'm begging you. You don't even have to admit anything Just slowly put it back to the original ratio or close to it. 🙏

We REALLY need this, because there is shockingly little clarity on what makes a fur or plumage type Uncommon vs rare. For instance, multiple sources list Black Brown Springbok, Black White Raccoon Dogs, and Grey Mountain Lions/Pumas as common fur types, but I have picked them up and had it count toward the "Harvest X uncommon or rare fur types" missions in the hunt club

In addition give the spotting knowledge skill the ability to tell fur type in the status box when spotting. It’s Impossible to tell some fur types like Mela bears at night or even piebald lynx during the day until shooting it.

True, you could still detect rares that you had not yet spotted, but being able to spot them (and thus detect them) would weaken the DV skill a bit, to the point that it might not be worth having (at least in my opinion) as an "end game" skill vs Pack Mule. As it is now, DV is very valuable as a skill because it is the only way to detect rares unless you happen to identify one visually yourself.

I voted for this and even though it seems like an easy change it is deceptive. right now the fur spawn is random and is embedded in the code. They are not really keeping track of whats a rare and what isn't its just a percentage chance to be a certain fur type. ...... To do this correctly they will have to maintain some external tables on an ongoing basis that tells the kill info screen what is rare and what isn't and if they don't keep that table up to date it wont work consistently ....

I posted a version of this earlier in a separate thread, but thought it worth reposting it here.

Besides indicating the rarity, I'd like to suggest some other improvements to make the trophy screen more useful. I have dummied this up on a sample screen.

(1) The fur/plumage/scale rarity indicated by a color-code (Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, Mission). (Orange here = Uncommon) Also some sort of icon to indicate anything other than common.

(2) The coordinates where an animal was first shot, located near the reserve name. This would allow players to check on respawns, etc. at a later date, and remind them where to look.

In-game time that the animal was shot. Again, this might be important for tracking respawns, etc.

Indication of Multiplayer or Single Player. The reason is if players are in an informal competition, this might be important to know, particularly given all of the modded multiplayer maps

(3) An IRL timestamp as to when the animal was shot next to the player’s name. This is widely used for informal competitions and currently players need to make 2 screenshots to provide this information.

(4) A indication next to the Trophy Rating if the animal is a Personal Best score for that species. Players might want to know this for deciding whether to save/taxidermy the animal.

Just confused a black bear cinnamon rare for a brown bear cinnamon and didn't harvest it. Picked up the second kill before realising. 🤦

I was rushing through a Hunt Club mission and it just took a second too late for me to realise I hadn't harvested a common cinnamon. Ah well.

I actually have very detailed spreadsheets, which I spent months compiling, that I constantly have to refer to. It's very time consuming. I feel like all this information should be in the game itself, like it is in WOTH. COTW is the only game I need to keep info spreadsheets for. It's impossible to memorise all the rare furs especially when some variations are common for other species. COTW is a rewards-based arcade hunting game that's sole purpose is finding and showcasing diamond and rare trophies but completely ignore this part of the game. This is the second highest upvoted thread on discord but they barely acknowledge it, even on the live streams. Makes no sense to me.

It would completely remove the element of surprise when seeing one and demolish the unique factors of rare furs - unlike any other other qualities, you can only see the fur/plumage, not read it

bit late to this lol but ive wanted this on top of the highlighted rare furs / coats in the harvest screen for a while ^^ making it a high tier perk / skill for when they potentially add new perks / skills i think would balance it out. You don't even have to add the highlight to the spotting UI, just have it tell us the fur type and only have it highlight it in the harvest screen.

theres so many animals and counting and while that isnt a bad thing, its pretty hard to memorize all of them + their coats (especially when some of them have some pretty weird ones) and some rare fur types are damn near identical to the common ones.

It's especially with the birds and their multitude of variations that I wish the game would indicate if I've nabbed a rare plumage, rather than me having to rely on 3rd party sources. The 3rd party sources are appreciated, but shouldn't be necessary.

bump - for casuals who don't live in the discords it's pretty much impossible to know what is uncommon, rare, or mega rare - best of all, adding some kind of way to mark the rarity of a harvest in the harvest would benefit everyone, experienced players can just ignore it and the rest can known when they should have taxi'd something, especially as there's no way to access historic harvests the way Classic does

Here's my understanding: EW doesn't actually define what is rare - what we know as rare has been defined by unsanctioned programs used to detect animal-population frequencies. If this is the case, then it makes sense that EW wouldn't highlight rares on the harvest screen. Does anyone know differently?

Maybe that's where it started, but we also have streamers talking about rares and super rares, and with all the variations being added, it's pretty much impossible to know what is or isn't rare unless you're playing with a wiki/spreadsheet/discord open at the same time. Moreover, with EW changing the scarcity of different variations (cinnamon bears, IIRC) it's really impossible for casuals to know whether anything other than brown or grey is in any way rare. I mean, what else are the UI coders working on? This, hopefully.

Some fur types have super common names like light grey, dark brown, brown, dark grey and red brown. Not to mention other basic types like red, blonde, gold, beige and dark along with stuff like orange, crowned, ochre and blackgold. Like aside from the main 4 types (pie, mela, leu, albino) you'd almost have no idea what's a rare unless you have some sort of resource to tell you what's what.

Getting someone new into the game and it’d be amazing if I could just tell them to look for any colored text with fur types instead of waiting for them to get more used to the game so I can hand them a bunch of map guide images that list all the furs out so I don’t overwhelm them….
