This is the first of several Turkey focused reserves I have cooked up so people can complete the Turkey Slam, and it is based on Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas (USA) and Chihuahua (Mexico), and more specifically the Chihuahuan Desert. From the various “sky-islands” to the vast open desert, this reserve is not only home to Gould’s Turkey but also Coue’s Deer, Desert Bighorn and several African and Middle-eastern species. Equipped with the new 45 Calibre Airgun and your favourite shotgun, hunting on this reserve will not get boring anytime soon.

Species - 22

  • Big Game - 8
    • Coue’s Deer - Class 4
    • Desert Bighorn - Class 4
    • Scimitar-horned Oryx - Class 8
    • Barbary Sheep - Class 4
    • Gould’s Turkey
    • Mountain Lion
    • Armenian Mouflon
    • Javelina
    • Mule Deer or Desert Mule Deer (developer choice)
  • Small Game - 6
    • Desert Cottontail
    • Antelope Jackrabbit
    • Coatimundi - Class 2
    • Coyote
    • American Badger - Class 2
    • 9-banded Armadillo (also seen in my SA Waterfowl Reserve)
    • Western Diamondback Rattlesnake
    • Black-tailed Rattlesnake
  • Upland Birds - 3
    • Gambel’s Quail
    • Scaled Quail
    • Band-tailed Pigeon
  • Waterfowl - 2
    • Cinnamon Teal
    • Northern Pintail

The New Small Game Species (Coatimundi, Desert Cottontail, Dove, Pigeon, the 3 Quail and Pintail)

#

The Desert Bighorn, the Coue’s Deer and Gould’s Turkey (one of the small game species will appear on another turkey-focused reserve)

I was thinking of a other antelope jackrabbit map last night I would be happy with this

Sounds like a fun map. Mule Deer would also be a possible species on this map, maybe in some more mountainous areas. I'd love to have another map with Mule Deer personally.

I honestly would add Rio and Merriam to it as well and they could be divided in different regions on the map

#

Sadly eastern only go to Texas

#

I would be happy with as many mule deer maps as possible

Oh yes I was thinking of half the map as Gould then the other half done up between the 2

#

Or Gould map wide

crisp depot
#

Gould’s would be map wide frankly

#

Just added mulies along with armadillos and badgers

Awesome

I do also have a weapon in mind, a 45 Calibre Airgun with 2 new ammo types, I’m just looking up info for it now. I decided on the Airgun since it is legal to hunt big game in Arizona with it

This is a fantastic list of species and is well thought out, but we really do not need another USA map. If one gets added though, this would be one of few good picks

Another NA map is really needed to add the Gould to complete the Turkey Grand Slam..

Are there any exotics that can be added to give the map a different touch?

New Weapon: 45 Calibre “Bushbuck” Airgun

  • This new Airgun and the hollow point slugs will allow hunters to take animals such as mule deer and wildebeest up to 100 meters away
  • New Ammo Types
    • 45 Calibre Hollowpoint Slugs: Class 3-8
    • 450 grain Airbolts: Class 2-8 (same as the 420 grain Arrows and Bolts) (both ammo can work with the current 45 calibre airgun to, this one is just better for longer range)

Other than it being in the US, it’s a completely solid suggestion. Fantastic job

If I decide to do a Florida Reserve that focuses on Osceola Turkey, I could see it having a bunch of Exotic Invasives (Iguana come to mind for me and I am not sure how they could get Burmese Pythons to work)

kind temple
#

It would really be great to be able to hunt iguanas in Florida, too there are a lot of 3d movement models of pythons on the internet, also design models, I was researching a while ago to collaborate with that thread xD

#

I know it's a bit complicated but is it possible to expand the thread and put it as a "South Central Reserve" Arizona+Texas?, since they are both in the same geographic region and share similar ecoregions it would be great to be able to add the exotics from Texas, it's also one of the most requested and I know that many want a map there, that way we could all collaborate to make the ideal reserve without having to choose between one state and another 🤔

Just to play Devil's advocate for a moment, how would this proposed AZ reserve be significantly different than Rancho, other than being north of the border and having a few additions in terms of animals? What is there that is new enough to justify the time and expense of actually developing the DLC and bringing it to market? What gaps does it fill? IMO, not a lot. It would be easier to tweak Rancho and add a few new birds (perhaps) and rename/reskin the bighorns to make them desert bighorns (which should have been done in the 1st place). Beyond that, I really don't see EW gaining a lot in terms of business by having another Sonora map when they could invest their resources into something significantly different than what we have already.

@kind temple and @latent kelp you both got very good and very valid points, I will have to make a few changes to try and make it different from Rancho

Just as Layton is based on a whole region and not just one state, this reservation would include a whole geographic region, I promise to help when I have some time xD

Chihuahuan Desert - Gould’s Turkey, Coue’s Deer and Oryx

#

The Exotics: Barbary Sheep, Armenian Mouflon and Scimitar Horned Oryx (I deleted one of the quail species and the mourning dove along with pronghorns to make room for the exotics)

#

I will admit I forgot the Chihuahuan Desert existed while putting together the reserve initially

Bumping up for Gould Turkey

I may add snakes to this reserve
So far I am thinking maybe the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake since this reserve is well within the area those snakes are found in

#

I could also throw in Black-tailed Rattlesnake

First Image is the Western Diamondback and the second image is the Black-tailed Rattlesnake

Both would be class 1

#

What do you guys think?

Love this idea

As a southwesterner this is like an upgraded rancho to me, but also a lot of the reasons I like this could just be changes made to rancho so I’m not sure if this entire reserve is needed. Just my thoughts I do love how it’s a west texas/arizona hybrid tho

Yeah.I’d love to see this however I’d prefer to see ranch get some love.

I do agree, Rancho needs some tough love

I have no plans to include Elk on this reserve
