Several crash starting the game

Last March 14 I updated the new version and I was playing several hours. I closed the game like I usually do but the next day when I started the game, before the initial menu, the game kept crashing. could not start
Since I had a day 14 backup of the Avalanche Studios folder just before the update, I copied it back to its original path and the game started fine but I had lost my progress from everything played after the update. I exited the game correctly but every time I wanted to enter, the crashes occurred again and I had to put the backup of the March 14 day before the update. So over and over again.
I've been looking into which file in the Avalanche Studios folder causes that crash on entry and it's the thp_player_profile_adf file which appears to be player progress. If I delete that file the game starts perfectly and I can play, but I lose all progress. If I play it again, the game crashes. It seems that file has been corrupted by the update and I can't make any further progress. I've been playing for years and it would be a great disappointment to lose the progress of all this time.

I still have my backup just before of the upgrade, but when you play, this file thp_player_profile_adf is overwriting by the game and the next starting the game crashing

is steam cloud saving enabled?

I think the issue is when the game overwrite the file with the progressing

When I use the backup, I need disable steam cloud because if is enable, my backup is overwrite and when I start the game I have crasing

and then even after restoring the backup, crashing continues?

the first time with the backup, the game start perfectly, but I see the game overwrite this file and the next start the game, the file produce the crash, because if I delete this file, the game working properly

and im assuming your steam cloud saving is disabled this entire time?

I think the problem is not Steam Cloud, because I have crashing with steam cloud disable. I have spent hours and hours testing which file was the problem and that is. I think the file of my backup is correct bur when is overwrited by the game, the file produce the crash in the next starting the game, with disable steam cloud or with able steam cloud (sorry with my english, I´m spanish)

it is possible that something is preventing the game from properly saving/overwriting that file

like i said, try whitelisting the game on any antivirus software you have (i.e. add an exception for it)

I have the antivirus of Windows 10: Windows defender

I´m playing several years ago and never I have any problem I checked in my laptop and the problem is similar. I have a laptop and PC tower

I was unistalling and installing the game by steam in the laptop and the PC and the problem is produced in both.

Well, the problem I think was fixed, but I lost 1.5Mill money and a lot of animals killed. The file of my progress it seems about 6-8 months ago. I don't know why the progress is older but with this file i play without problems and now i can restart the Game. No crashes now but I lost my progress, i lost several photos because i reinstall the Game. It's horrible. Years playing and with the upgrade i lost a lot of things. Thanks Cotw for the upgrade

Very nice work on locating the exact file that is causing the problem.

the problem sems to be connected to the games auto save feature. (the little icon in the the bottom left corner. on my playstation it stay on contiually. when it does your current saved game file gets corrupt and won't load. not sure why but i can load my old game save and have the issue happen , but if i select new game, it works like it should. BTW selecting new game saves all of your trophies, but you lose everything else. For me this dates back to the New England update. hope its fixed soon, hope this helps a bit.

Worst part about consoles is we can’t even access the files to see what’s wrong. Just gotta pray the update doesn’t break shit

EW needs to start prioritizing bug fixes and testing their game out extensively before they roll an update out. I’m not sure they even do console testing, at least that’s what it feels like

I agree with you, but the thing is we don’t really know what it’s like from they’re perspective so it’s kinda hard to get mad at them when we don’t know if they really are trying or not

It’s been like this for over a year at this point. Every content drop the game breaks in so many different ways, and recently it’s just become unplayable at times. I have no idea what EW is doing with their time or what the development process is like, but it often feels like they’re either unaware of these issues beforehand or they don’t care

I want this game to be one of the best hunting ”simulators” out there, there’s a reason I’ve sunk over 2000 hours into it, but these very prevalent issues have become extremely frustrating. Especially because hotfixes roll out several weeks after an update, and if that doesn’t fix something we’ve gotta wait for months until the next content drop for these issues to (hopefully) be addressed

It can’t be fixed unless you want to lose all progress towards levels and such. You would have to delete a certain file that I don’t remember exactly what it was.

I believe there’s hope of a hot fix that’ll fix this problem sometime next week.

I’m trying to get this straight. If my game is crashing every time I try to load in on Xbox, that means my save file is corrupted and there is no way to fix it other than deleting all of your progress?

it could be that way yes however the issue is being looked into and i believe jaxy said that there's good progress being made on the issue (this makes me think it's not quite a corrupted save file) so i'd wait and see until they push out this hotfix before doing anything
