#Cameroon Reserve

Thought I would throw my hat into the reserve suggestion ring, with an African reserve in the country of Cameroon!

This reserve would be split between forest and savanna habitat mimicking the actual country with forest hunting in the south and savanna hunting in the north, with some species found in both areas, and others exclusive to one or the other. Obviously IRL the forest elephants are a drawcard to this country, but for reasons that have been gone over ad nauseum on this discord I am not including them. Olive baboon also not on the list as I am unsure if they would ever include a primate. Not included the huntable snakes for model/mechanics reasons.

Possible returning species:
Warthog
Lion (they do require a special separate hunting permit in Cameroon, but it is possible)

Possible new species, a non exhaustive list nor would all needed to be included, classes are a rough estimate based on average weights:
Class 9/10: Hippo (same situation as lion but are legal with special permit)
Class 9: Giant/Lord Derby Eland
Class 9: African Forest Buffalo
Class 8: Western Bongo
Class 8: Roan
Class 7 or 6: Giant Forest Hog
Class 6: Hartebeest or Giant Topi
Class 5: Spotted Hyena
Class 4 or 5: Bush Pig/Red River Hog
Class 4: Western Sitatunga
Class 4 or 3: Kob
Class 2: Civet
Class 2 (or even 1, blue duiker are tiny!): Blue Duiker (or another variety of duiker, there are quite a number huntable in Cameroon)

EDIT please see Moosedragon274's post just below for more species ideas!

Feel free to make your own suggestions, other animals, a weapon to go with the reserve, mission ideas etc... For example I can't find much info about any available huntable birds or things like rabbits.

and some pictures of the less commonly known species (everyone knows what a hippo or hyena look like haha)

I had this on a list of reserve ideas but I guess early bird gets the worm.

For bird species I have seen pictures of both Guineafowl and several species of bustards. The Guineafowl species in Cameroon include Helmeted, Black, Plumed and Western Crested (the last 2 are similar enough that only one of them needs to be added.)
As for Bustard species there are Arabian (which are related to the Kori Bustard), the Denham’s and Black-bellied Bustards.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t include the Olive Baboon, after all baboons are widely persecuted as they can do serious damage to gardens and property and can kill livestock. A couple other species that could be added are the Serval and Patas Monkey. I would also switch the Sitatunga to class 4 and Korrigum to class 6, the Sitatunga are not that big

#

And the Forest Buffalo is a class 9 animal, while they are not that big they are still one of the most dangerous animals in the rainforest and calibres like the 375 or 9.3s are considered the minimum for buffalo hunting

thanks for the input especially around classes, im not super up on calibers used irl etc so a lot of the classes were total guesswork

#

I have seen some previous discussion on baboons where people were really put off on the idea of shooting primates so i guess it just depends on where EW would sit on that

You could also have both Red River Hog and Giant Forest Hog, just have the Forest Hogs restricted to the rainforest areas or wherever on the map the Bongo and Forest Buffalo would be

#

If it also helps, the Giant Forest hog is greatly feared by the people that live in the area due to how aggressive the boars are and they have been known to drive clans of spotted hyenas off a carcass

yeah i imagine its also like if they ever tried to introduce feral cats as a species (and they are a very valid option for TA or a future australia reserve lol)

yeah i personally wouldnt mind having both of them as they are quite different looking from each other, but i though people might not want two pig species (three if warthog returned)

#

Would be interested to know what peoples ideal species list was if it was restricted to the precedent set by current maps of 9-15 animals

#

i know rev has more but its kind of special case atm

# craggy shard Would be interested to know what peoples ideal species list was if it was restri...

My species list was complied with the idea that my take on Cameroon would have been more focused on the Savannah region

My Species List for Cameroon- 15

  • Lord Derby’s Eland - Class 9
  • Central African Buffalo - Class 9
  • African Lion - Class 9
  • Roan Antelope - Class 8
  • Korrigum/Giant Topi - Class 6
  • Spotted Hyena - Class 5
  • Buffons Kob - Class 4
  • Warthog - Class 4
  • Olive Baboon - Class 3/4
  • Harnessed Bushbuck - Class 3/4
  • Serval Cat - Class 2/3
  • Red-flanked Duiker - Class 2
  • Patas Monkey - Class 2
  • Arabian Bustard
  • Helmeted Guineafowl
#

But I like your take on a reserve set in Cameroon, seeing as how it covers both the Savannah and Rainforest species

craggy shard
#

Yeah I figure it adds some diversity to the reserve and some of the forest species are awesome. Bongo would probably be the one I want most of that group

graceful ferry
#

If you wanted another forest duiker there is the Yellow-backed Duiker, mind you it is easily within the Class 3 to 4 range as it’s one of the 3 giant duikers

The bustard would be the first bird that is bigger than class 1 if added.

This looks Awsome, love the Hyenas

Love this idea and all of the species in it. I also like MooseDragon's ideas, especially to include the Guineafowl, Olive Baboon and Serval.

anyone have ideas for a map weapon? i dont hunt irl so really not familiar with whats out there

tender oasis
#

Given the large game suggested something big, maybe a nitro style rifle

graceful ferry
#

Based on both your species list and mine, you could go for a bolt action chambered either in 375 Magnum, 9.3x62 or 458, you could also do an over/under break-action rifle chambered in 9.3x74R or a lever-action chambered in 405 Winchester, or as @tender oasis stated, a Nitro Express styled Rifle chambered in calibres like the 500 Nitro Express

Since you've got hippos and a lot of other really big animals in this map idea, I think a .375 H&H or some other high caliber rifle would be a good choice for the weapon to go it.

ruby hearth
#

I would want a 500 Jeffery's bolt action rifle.
A 550 CZ 500 Jeffery rifle.

craggy shard
#

for reference, my own personal list if the number of species was limited to 15 (added a duck because i like having at least one on a map):

Class 9: Giant/Lord Derby Eland
Class 9: Lion
Class 9: African Forest Buffalo
Class 8: Western Bongo
Class 8: Roan
Class 7/6: Giant Forest Hog
Class 6: Spotted Hyena
Class 4: Western Sitatunga
Class 4: Kob
Class 3: Serval
Class 2: Civet
Class 2: Blue Duiker
Class 1: Plumed Guineafowl
Class 1: Black-bellied Bustard
Class 1: Knob-billed Duck

ruby hearth
#

Giant forest hog can weight up to 600lbs. That with an aggressive attitude and you might need to put that at level 6-7

craggy shard
#

could bump them up for sure

#

yeah thats nearly as big as a bongo thats wild

#

apparently a 375 h&h is considered the minimum for giant forest hog, for those who know their irl hunting, whats that comparable to in the game?

ruby hearth
#

I would like a big game bolt action. Like 416 Rigby or a 500 Jeffery rifle.

tender oasis
craggy shard
#

Well based on that I think maybe class 7 for the giant hog?

tender oasis
#

6-7 yeah

craggy shard
#

im considering possible missions, maybe a mission unique animal but the question would be what

#

depends what people find the most desirable
