#Surround sound

Is it just me or does the surround sound not work at all?

If I am on 5.1 speakers/headphones in other games, sound goes from the speaker/side it should (back, front or whatever). In this game, the sound just goes really randomly. As I am trying to hunt partly realistically, I am playing without dog's coloured border. If I down an animal I set the dog on track and go after him, if I lose him or he finds the animal, he barks. But for whatever reason I am not able to find him in the direction he barks from. Same goes for animal's calls for me (I also do not have call visuals turned on). Although SOME items in the world work fine (radio, electrics, water pipes or whatever it is on Mississippi Acres Preserve. etc.)

For more immersive gameplay I would really love this to be fixed. I do not believe it is problem on my side as like I wrote, in other games (specially FPS ones), the sound works exactly how it should.

Hmm... I haven't noted this problem in my gameplay. I use Bose Quiet Comfort headphones plugged into the PC when playing COTW. I don't know about the dog sound, since I don't play with the dog.

I turn on Dolby Atmos and use it with Dolby Atmos for Headphones and I can locate the direction a sound is coming from almost immediately. Before that I was struggling. Dolby Atmos for Headphones has a free trial so you have nothing to lose by trying it. Search the Microsoft store and give it a go.

Felt this too, had a support ticket on hold before sending , waiting for some extra footage to send, but definitely an issue. When playing without sound cue visualisation and when using the dog (like mentioned) this is quite an issue.

If anybody is interested in how I hear it, here is a not so quality video, but works alright for the explanation. I sent dog after a kill. I stopped walking to him so I could test it. From the map view, you can see he is right in front of me (30 meters away), I even put a marker there. Then I wait for him to bark. As soon as he barks I am trying to find the position I hear him from. At the end of the video I am looking exactly where I hear him from and you can clearly see, the sound is at totally different place. I am using headphones for this. I would also hear him the same way on my 5.1 speakers (tested).

That happens a lot, especially with the dogs. It's terrible

For me it is not only dog. Which is shame, I would like to play without animal call markers and dog's colored border, but with this issue, it is pain.

Yeah, probably. I also had mic up, so the noise is from that, otherwise my sound is clear. And like I wrote in the main text, I have no problems in other games AT ALL.

Realtek is not fully compatible with Dolby Atmos, it reduces the sound of things between 30 and 70% and does not distinguish echoes or directions of sound in many occasions..
Download FxSound Volumen Booster, Just run it and it will always be active, it is compatible with Dolby Atmos and distinguishes all volume ranges in the game, it also improves the sound of animal footsteps and ambient sound without drowning out other sounds, just adjust the volume from the task stick , there is no need to change the sound levels unless you want to make more ambient sound

# hybrid girder Sad I have to download third party program to make work something that works any...

It's not the game, it's Realtek, it's old crap just meant to emulate Windows sounds, not compatible with most current systems as of 2018 or the front panels of most current motherboards, Windows has been here for years should have stopped using it.
Use FxSound or any other volume control program, compare the sound quality of both and you will understand, not just in CotW but in any game or just playing music on any platform

The sound is better for sure, unfortunately it did not solve my problem.

I would like better surround, and also simple left/right, sound as well. The dog audio is almost always from the left channel for me... I end up using the in game phone app to see where they are rather than following the sound... it's really too bad.

I would love for this to be fixed because trying to figure out where the bird is flying above you or in different directions is almost impossible half the time when bird hunting and for some reason caller's murdering my right ear

When using 5.1 and a Mountain lion growls at you it comes out of every speaker so you don't know where it is
