Bring proper rain back to COTW, please.

I really miss a good proper rain in COTW.

EW has as good as removed proper rain across all the reserves, following critique of the rainy Mississippi Acres.
Now all you get is a few drops now and then. I also haven’t heard even a single thunderclap, since the weather was tampered with.

(Edit insert line) Perhaps we could get a “Sun lover” - “Rain lover” slider?

Or perhaps we could get just 3 simple weather settings to choose from?:

  1. Rain level as upon release of Mississippi Acres. Meaning that Mississippi Acres, and other reserves, is again about as rainy as it was when Mississippi Acres was released.
  2. A wee few drops (as it is now, pr February 1.st. 2023).
  3. No rain.

(As a luxury addition. Those settings could be set per reserve).

COTW for me is also about being out in nature, and COTW has lost some of the appeal, after you dried out the reserves.

(22 days after Original suggestion I suggest:

Just 4 'fixed' weather patterns to choose from:

  1. Sunny, Period! (perhaps with scattered thin high clouds).
  2. Sunny and light clouds (Randomizing between Sunny and 25% cloud cover).
  3. Cloudy (Randomizing between 25% and 75% cloud cover).
  4. Overcast (Randomizing between 75% cloud cover and 100% cloud cover)
  5. Randomly switch between all 4 presets. "Start at preset X", or "Surprise me". Random would then move from preset to preset, one step at a time, staying within that preset for a random number of minutes (within rough min/max limits), before transitioning into the next preset with a 50/50 chance for going up or down in preset number.

"Rain" or "Rain and Thunder" could be selected "on" or "off".

If you set "Rain" or "Rain and Thunder" to "On":

  • For weather pattern 2, you would have a small chance of a light shower from the clouds.
  • For weather pattern 3, you would have a chance of a more solid shower.
  • For weather pattern 4, you would have a chance of solid showers/persistent rain.)

Reduce of Mississippis rain level killed it a lot it was one of my favorite things about it because of every one crying about it even though irl it rains almost 300 days a year down there I miss it so much

worldly lodge
rugged shore
#

Exactly it was so fun getting to run around in the fields and Trek through the woods while it pouring down rain and it was also beneficial for people that actually have the only happy when it rains perks they basically made that perk bunch useless

worldly lodge
#

There should be an option to choose, because obviously both groups are there. A "Sun lover"/"Rain lover" slider/toggle/something.

rugged shore
#

It would be nice

#

I personally enjoy hunting in cloudy or rainy weather more than bright and sunny

worldly lodge
#

I like both. Both enhances the joy of the other. But sun or rain solo dies on it's own. That is my viewpoint, anyway.

rugged shore
#

Indeed

worldly lodge
#

Some reserves should have an overweight of rain, like Mississippi, others not so much. Like Vuhronga or Mexico. But even they should have the odd chance of of a good solid shower, just once in a while.

I'd like to weigh in on this one!! I loved the rain on Mississippi on release. Personally, I would vote to bring it back! However, the community spoke and was heard by our devs. There is certainly a tough balance to achieve as no matter what the result, you can't please everyone.

I think this is a great suggestion but I am also aware of what it would take to implement this. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be a hard sell to focus the resources on making this happen. If we had enough upvoted, perhaps? These new forums make it easier to identify what the community wants!

rugged shore
#

Yeah that's one of the rough things about it and how so many people really dislike Mississippi

Even after the rain was done for everyone

I've had thunderstorms/downpours too, but NOT after the weather was changed after Mississippi.

I would love to have that again, please tell where you get that thunder and downpour.

I'm not surprised to hear that some say there's too much rain and some says there's not enough and some say its just right .... This is a very subjective thing. And evidently implementing the sliders that allow each player to adjust to their own liking is not a trivial thing....

worldly lodge
#

Ok, I see. Well, lucky you, then 🙂

lilac crest
#

Exactly! Same here. MS still has plenty of rain and Te Awar has plenty of rain too. And the thunder in Vurhonga was odd! lol hadn’t heard that before.

lilac crest
#

Yeah that’s odd. That’s one map that should never have rain.

worldly lodge
#

Never? How do the plants and trees survive, do you think?

#

But shouldn't get much rain, true, compared to other greener landscapes.

#

But true, what some sees as plenty, or even too much, rain, others see as too little/to short periods of rain.
Which is why we could do with some customization here 🙂

lilac crest
worldly lodge
#

Ok, Ok 🙂
I don't remember if I encountered that information.
But I also don't do story lines or missions, so...
For that reason, I would find it annoying IF they had tied the weather pattern to a specific story line bit of information.

Why not a Weekly Calendar?
If in real life we choose the day to go hunting, why not in CotW?
Some fishing games have the option to choose the day according to the weather, it would be great to add this step before entering the map, after all and depending on the ability to predict the weather, it can follow a certain schedule...
I think that choosing the day where it rains the most, or where it is always sunny or with some clouds would be the solution to be able to please everyone.
It is not necessary to add anything excessively complex, stages of 4 hours with the same weather is already quite realistic, a combination of 5 weathers over 6 days is fine, and a day that's just sunny..
Or just Skip the step and continue to Random mode as it is currently.

Having game weather changing in hardcoded, programmed, recognisable blocks and patterns would really bug me.
In fact, because it is a game, and I don't get wet, cold or sweaty, I can FULLY enjoy the effect of random weather.
The weather we have now, is at least random. That, I feel, is important for the weather. That it doesn't move in fixed recognisable patterns.
I'm not a IRL hunter, so I'm not in the habit of choosing a day to go hunting, because the weather is good for it.
I am enjoying a game of nature, while hunting and enjoying the random weather changes.

worldly lodge
#

The player could perhaps be presented with 6 (just a number) different FIXED weather types. Perhaps 6 weather symbols that you could click and you would get that particular FIXED weather during your session. F.ex. "Sunny" and nothing but sunny.
Or: You could choose random weather AND could move a sunny/rainy slider for that random weather.

gusty wren
#

So you just choose to play with random weather and you would skip the forecast selection..
Random weather is the least realistic there is, cycles in game are too short and the rain is almost nonexistent, in real life one would not hunt in the rain (except ducks and Pumas here in the north of Argentina) but in game it looks and feels great

worldly lodge
#

I agree. Random weather is not a depiction of how IRL weather behaves at all. But in a game I generally want a little bit of everything in a relatively short timespan. So for a game, (customisable) random weather is the better solution, imo.

This is the weather in Layton for 3 consecutive uses of the weather forecast ability, if each state follows a certain time I think it will be possible to extend them or set a certain duration and activation time without making everything so complicated 😅

worldly lodge
#

Interesting. I think I tried the weather ability a looong time ago. I think I remember it being not very useful, or too inaccurate, or not working properly. Can't remember which it was. Being a weather-in-game afficionado I would like this to ability to be fleshed out, in combination with these new weather pre sets.

It could be fleshed out to be an actual weather forecast, if the weather cycles were also longer.

I miss the rain. I use the skill "Only happy when it rains" and as you can imagine...I'm no longer happy 😂 my hunting character has been nerfed because the skill doesn't work anywhere near as much anymore. I think the rain storms need to be less common but last way longer if they do happen. Gives the sense of a rainy day and stops those random 30 second showers.

It seems like every time I read this thread I get rain everywhere.

It seems to me lately that the lightning >> thunder is more regular and synced together. I got s regular crash and boom fest in Vurhonga last night when I was hunting Wildebeest at 200+ meters. If you mean precipitations, i would like having some on all maps sometimes. If you mean no changing seasons in Yukon for the "consistent weather patterns", i would have to disagree with you. I absolutely love Yukon, especially because of it's season changing pattern. I was so amazed to find that it changed seasons once I bought this DLC.

I do miss the thunderstorms on Vurhonga (Boi were they massive). However, I play the game much less than before since about 3-4 years because of University, so my time in game might not be comparable to regular player of the game, therefore the weather experience i'm getting might not be a good enough sample size to supports a good comment.

It's when doing a restart on discovery of new areas and after killing a lot of one animal. The spawn system has no relation to the weather system, if that is the case then the animals would not appear in Rancho where the rain is disabled xD..
