This reserve is more based on Northern Argentina and serves as the second waterfowl focused map, with a wide variety of South American duck species. It is also where one can pursue large flocks of dove in the farmlands. Other species present include familiar species like Axis Deer and Blackbuck and new species like Caiman, Armadillo and Capybara.

(Credit for the name of the area and several species inclusions goes to @rough lake)

Additional Feature that should of been added a while ago: A feature to deafen waterfowl sounds

Returning Species

  • Puma
  • Wild Boar
    • Alternatively the Wild Hogs from Mississippi would also work here
  • Axis Deer
  • Indian Blackbuck
  • Cinnamon Teal
  • Collared Peccary

Potential New Species

  • Rosy-billed Pochard
  • Silver Teal
  • Brazilian Teal
  • Ringed Teal
  • Red Shoveler
  • White-faced Whistling Duck
  • Black-bellied Whistling Duck
  • Giant Wood-rail (As suggested by Rexio.45.410)
  • Chaco Chachalaca

  • Common Perdiz/Spotted Nothura
  • Eared Dove
  • Monk Parakeet (yes you can hunt them irl)
  • Picazuro Pigeon
  • 9-banded Armadillo - Class 1
  • Plains Viscacha - Class 1
  • Coypu/Nutria - Class 2

  • Brown Brocket Deer - Class 2
  • Capybara - Class 3
  • Yacare Caiman - Class 4
  • Greater Rhea - Class 4
  • White-lipped Peccary (as suggested by Rexio.45.410) - Class 3
  • Fuluvous Whistling Duck
  • Yellow-billed Teal
  • Yellow-billed Pintail
  • White-cheeked Pintail
  • Brushland Tinamou
  • Red-winged Tinamou
#

New Weapons

  • 12 Gauge Semi-auto Shotgun
    • Given the amount of bird hunting here a 12 gauge semi will come in handy

New Items

  • The 3 new teal will come into the same caller as Cinnamon Teal for the sake of simplicity
  • The Pochard, Shovelers and Whistling Ducks all have their own callers
  • All the new ducks alongside the Dove and Parakeet have decoys
  • The decoys for the Dove and Parakeet have spinning wings
#

The Brocket Deer and Fox are Class 2, the Capybara are class 3 and the Caiman as class 4

#

(From top to bottom: Brocket Deer, Yacare Caiman, Plains Viscacha and Pampas Fox)

#

And before anyone ask, yes it is legal (and apparently encouraged) to hunt Monk Parakeet

These are awesome pictures, kind of what I was picturing actually

I would remove the Blackbuck and instead add the Pecari Labiado (Tayassu pecari) which is very abundant in wetland areas in northern Argentina 👌

stone patio
#

I was considering adding the White-lipped Peccary

#

Can we bench the Puma in favor of Jaguar please

stone patio
#

No, I came up with this reserve to be focused on smaller animals (11 bird species and the largest animal being class 5) hence the title “South American Waterfowl Reserve”. That is the explanation I will give. There is also the fact that the hunting of jaguars is prohibited in the majority of the countries they live in

warm birch
#

Yeah that makes sense.
Makes me wonder if they could add a rare animal like that and give the "invalid target" prompt when a player attempts to shoot it. 🤔

stone patio

Fair enough 😅

I actually really like this idea, it's pretty unique and different from all of the other ideas that I've seen people post.

rough lake
#

Something that I would expect to see in this reserve to one side of the main outpost is a Eucalyptus tree, in the ranches of northern Argentina it is customary to have one to provide shade for domestic cattle, as lightning rods to protect houses, and so that monk parakeet use it to make their nests instead of electricity poles

stone patio
#

Given the amount of bird hunting that could be expected among other things, a skeet shooting range would be a fantastic addition to this reserve

Another New Weapon that will come with this reserve alongside the 12 Gauge Semi-auto will be some sort of Rifle that can cover either classes 2-7 or 2-6, I’m just not sure weather to do a 7mm-08 Scout Rifle or what not

#

The Prized Bird of this Reserve: The Rosy-billed Pochard

#

The 2 Whistling Ducks: The White-faced and the Black-bellied. The White-faced Whistling duck also live in much of Sub-Saharan Africa while the Black-bellied ranges up into the Southern US

#

The 3 Teals (in order): The Ringed Teal, the Brazilian Teal and the Silver Teal

#

The Eared Dove and the Picazuro Pigeon. While we will never get the giant clouds of dove in this game, they could have larger flock sizes that number up to 30 birds

#

The Perdiz or Common Nothura, another upland species that lives on the reserve

rough lake
#

I will mention that the Viscachas would use the same mechanics that the European Rabbits currently use.
The Viscachas live in burrows called "Vizcacheras" very similar to the Burrows that we have in the game, but unlike rabbits, the Viscachas only come out of their burrows at night to feed and move away within a radius of 100 or 200mts for later. run to hide inside if scared or attacked..
They also tend to accumulate rocks, bones, branches and even metal objects in front of their burrows, adding some would be a good detail to differentiate them from those that exist now.

@rough lake at first I thought the animals that made those burrows were chinchillas.

I forgot that there is a very common small game species in the wetlands of Northern Argentina, the Giant Wood-rail (Aramides ypecaha). It would be great to have it, I can't imagine a wetland without any of them, or at least have their song on the map XD

• Name in Argentina: Ipacaá
• English name: Giant Wood-Rail
Conservation Status: Least Concern (According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature)

Size of 48 centimeters.
Dorsal olive brown. Abdomen and flanks cinnamon-pink. Rump and tail black.

It inhabits grasslands and marginal shrubby areas of forests along watercourses or in the vicinity of lagoons, marshes and floodplains. It is present throughout the country, being an abundant species.

It usually appears in pairs. Frequently ventures into open spaces, either in the field or on plowed land. It is an extremely walker, with a rhythmic gait and an erect tail that is constantly twitching spasmodically. When alarmed, it starts a quick run and can make a relatively short flight, just above the grasslands.

It feeds on mollusks, arthropods, and other invertebrates, as well as plant matter.

His voice is very powerful and audible at a distance. On certain occasions there can be crepuscular choirs, which seem to derive from a large number of individuals, who are as if adding, in a chain, one after another, after the pioneer. One of the indigenous names of the bird, "ipecaá" derives, although not in a transparent way, from the onomatopoeia of this phrase. It emits it preferably in the evening twilight, but during the breeding season it does so at any time of the day.

#

I have yet to come up with a proper name for this reserve but I do having something of a story

Basically the Warden was given this position by his father (who wanted to retire a few years earlier) and has decided to expand the hunting opportunities on the reserve. As it stands the reserve is famous for 3 things: Doves, Ducks and Dorado and he was to make the reserves other game animals worth coming here for weather you want to hunt deer and blackbuck in the savannah or caiman and capybara along the rivers and lakes. One of the Side Missions will be similar to the Trophy Lodge mission on Parque but you will only have to get gold medal animals. (Basic Story I know)

(Here is a picture of a Golden Dorado for those unfamiliar)

rough lake
#

As soon as I can, I will make a context for the reserve using the problem of livestock exploitation in the wetland areas of the Gran Chaco, and the conversion of the ranch to hunting tourism, it would be a good option to represent the importance of hunting and conservation in northern argentina 👌

stone patio
rough lake
#

That's right, they devour too many native aquatic plants, erode the wetland floor with the constant stepping of their hooves, and with their droppings they disperse too many acacia tree seeds

grave spruce
#

How about new blinds for this map? Like fixed around the lakes maybe 2-3 per lake or area you have those blinds that are dug into the ground.

stone patio
#

These waterfowl blinds should be able to hold more then one player, with one player blasting the callers while the other 2 shoot

Well I just thought about it. I don't know. Do you think the devs if the map ever happens would make the gun a 3-7 or a 4-8 class weapon? Since it does shoot a 35 caliber bullet?

I haven't played the game all that much. I didn't know that the mosin was a 2-7 class gun. It needs polymer tips so bad.

INTRO:
**Warden: **"As you can see these areas are not very productive, they are not suitable for cultivation, the soil is very sandy and too wet all year for any planting, there is a small farm to the north but it only produces enough to feed the chickens, the 2 main activities to make a profit from these lands are felling trees and raising cattle, because my family loves these lands they never extract from them or exploit them more than they need, nor do we hunt more than what we go to eat, however the cows still devour many plants from the wetlands, they erode the low areas and their droppings disperse tree seeds to places where they should not be and they have to be moved to another area after several months, and more than 200 years of doing the same is taking its toll on this land...
Now that my father has given me the reins of the ranch, I think it's time to make a change..."

"Nature has blessed us with a great abundance of game animals and I believe that years of experience in these lands and knowledge about them will allow us to manage them properly, that is why we began the transition to convert this ranch into a game reserve, There are still things to do but with your help and great hunting experience I'm sure we can finish this...
Do not underestimate the field work, after all through everything so you will know the whole ranch, I will be guiding you and sharing the experience that through generations has been inherited to me, by the time we finish you will be one more of this land...
Let's begin...."

I think that structure would be a great addition to the Duck & Cover Pack in case this reserve is released since in the wetlands of northern Argentina the Broadleaf cattail are extremely common and grow in any waterlogged terrain, they are normally used as a hiding place for hunting, it also has no effect on the landscape cutting them to assemble hideouts as they regenerate incredibly fast

Love the idea, but COTW has Parque Fernando located in Argentina

#

A perfect South American COTW waterfowl map would be in Bolivia or Uruguay

stone patio
#

The description given for Parque puts it down in Southern Argentina (a shame the icon on the map puts much further north) where as this one is a lot further north (within Argentina). Plus Argentina is big enough to hold 2 reserves at least and I still wanted the reserve to have some big game on it

stone patio
#

I might as well bring this reserve up again

stone patio
#

I wonder how people would feel if I added feral sheep and nutria to this reserve?

stone patio
meager oar
rough lake
#

It is feasible to add Nutrias, they are very numerous and harmful to the ecosystem when their population increases, they inhabit the same habitats as Capybaras

#

However, there are no feral populations of Goats and Sheep, they are raised as cattle but when they are abandoned by their owners or separated from their herds they are quickly preyed on by Pumas 😔

stone patio
#

The Coypu (Nutria) for those unfamiliar

rough lake
#

The Puma subspecies of northern Argentina (Puma concolor cabrerae) is somewhat peculiar, it is much smaller than that of NA or Patagonia, weighs less and looks slimmer, they are mostly nomadic, they follow the packs of Collared Peccaries and White-lipped Peccaries that are also nomadic , they only establish themselves in a territory when they have cubs, normally near the pig dens or near a rural settlement where they can constantly hunt sheep or goats to feed and teach their young to hunt, they are quite harmful at that stage, they arrive to exterminate entire herds of goats or sheep if they are not controlled 🔥
It's the reason there are no wild goats

stone patio
stone patio
#

Gonna bring this one back up

rough lake
#

In recent years the use of air weapons has become very popular in Argentina, I would not rule out adding a PcP Air Double Barrel Shotgun to this reserve

Ammo Birdshot pellets .50 (Class 1)
Ammo 9mm bullet pellets .50 (Class 2-3)
Ammo .50 pellets (Class 4-7)

The definitive Air Weapon xD

spark imp
#

This request is amazing, just wondering if it is legal to hunt this specific subspecies of caiman in Argentina. I know that for a lot of species of caiman, it is illegal to even own one, let alone hunt it

stone patio
spark imp
stone patio
# spark imp

That isn’t in no way referencing weather it is legal to hunt or not, it is simply saying that illegal hunting is a threat to their populations

#

Now that the topic is brought up regarding caiman in the context of this thread, I may be going down a rabbit hole for a bit

rough lake
#

Yes, I think we should remove it, although they can be hunted on private land, they are not included among the species that can be part of a "Coto de Caza" (Hunting Reserve) 😦

stone patio
rough lake
#

If we better leave it to the criteria of the study in case they design the reserve xD
I just saw that the Collared Peccary is not on the list, you can also add it since this area is its native habitat

#

There is also another native bird that can be added, Chaco chachalaca (Ortalis canicollis), later I will make a summary and details of taxonomy and behavior to see if it is worth adding it, if we rule out its hiding in the trees mechanics its behavior is identical to the one Rock Ptarmigan, they make a lot of sounds just like them

stone patio
stone patio
rough lake
# stone patio Also is the bird?

It is that...
The species of Chachalaca that inhabits the north of Argentina has a more terrestrial behavior than the subspecies of other regions, it would be great to place it with a behavior equal to that of the upland birds but no need to shoot them on the fly

#

They have smaller wings and are clumsy flying, they do not fly high or for long

stone patio
stone patio
#

Seeing as how I have a name for my Arctic Reserve, I figured it was time to have a name for this waterfowl-focused hunting area located in Northern Argentina and this is what I narrowed down too

Potential Reserve Names

  • Rancho del Chaco 1️⃣
  • Rio Iberá 2️⃣

The first name is alluding to the fact that this hunting area is currently a cattle ranch that is set to be converted to a game reserve.
The second one is because there is a large river cutting through the area, and as a result part of the reserve is covered in flooded savannahs and swamps that the numerous waterfowl species call home

Choose 1️⃣ or 2️⃣ for which name would work better

If you have a better name for this area I am all ears

median flame
#

Aroa sky's
Is a suggestion of a name from me but I like 2️⃣

stone patio
#

The second name idea was inspired the Iberá Wetlands in Argentina

rough lake
#

Normally the properties in North Argentina are not called Ranchos, here they are called Estancias, it is the legal synonym used to register a property with the purpose of producing cattle, they also carry simple names of some native tree, animal or plant that is abundant within the property, or a name that denotes the relief or geographical feature of the area since in the past this was the way to recognize an area when passing through it...
Taking this into account, I would like to propose one of the following names:

**Estancia el Totoral **
(Totoral is the name given to a wetland area where many Totoras (southern cattail) grow)

Estancia los Bañados
(Bañados is a name given to a large group of wetlands)

Estancia el Tajamar
(Tajamar is A name given to a piece of land or long bend in a stream that diverts the flow of water and reduces its depth, usually enough to create a wetland)

**Estancia los Siriris **
(Siriri is the local/common name given to all species of wild ducks or whistling ducks)

I really love this map concept, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this DLC if it were ever released (I’d even pay a bit extra if it meant I’d get more waterfowl species). I personally like maps with a more rural setting rather than complete wilderness so an ex-cattle ranch would be amazing. The name is excellent btw, makes it seem like a really immersive map which I’m sure it would be with how much thought has gone into it.

This is the coordinate of the map capture that I made, if you zoom in on the sides of the main water channel you will be able to see the palm trees with the grasslands (apparently at the time that Google made the satellite capture there was no water xD)

That area looks like this, when there is little water in the main channel it has tall and dry grasslands, and when there is water in the channel the grassland is reduced and short and green

For weapons for this reserve so far

  • 12 Gauge Semi-auto Shotgun (Howcome we still don't have this)
  • 350 Legend Bolt-action Rifle (Classes 2 to 7)
  • Based on the Ruger American Ranch Rifle
  • 50 Calibre Double Barrel PCP Air Shotgun (As suggested by @rough lake a while ago)
  • Birdshot Pellets for the ducks and upland
  • 9mm bullet pellets (Classes 2 to 3)
  • 50 Calibre Airgun Pellets (Classes 4 to 7)

And that leaves room for one more weapon (Seeing as both my Canadian Arctic and West African reserves both have 4 weapons)

  • 45/410 Revolving Carbine, basically the Mangiafico 410/45 Colt in a carbine form
  • Comes with 410 Slugs which would be a Class 2 to 4 Ammo

I believe the shotgun should be 3+1. The 20 semi is 2+1 and it doesn’t feel like there are enough shots to effectively kill everything in the flock that could be shot and the 12 has more power than the 20 and thus can hit birds at a further range. I consistently shoot 5 shells out of the cacciatore but the legal limit for waterfowl in my area and I believe most of the US is 2+1 and I’d like to keep some realism while also playing a game this is why I think 3+1 is a logical number.

also, the locals liking hunting or not doesn't really matter much to this game, the player character was canonically raised on a south african game preserve, and is a globetrotting professional hunter that hunts just about everything that moves even if you don't accept Vurhonga Savannah's backstory for the player. Also, many Nepalese people are religiously opposed to the idea of hunting wildlife (as is mentioned in the DLC), so local's opinions doubly do not matter in the creation of maps. A good map offers new and interesting prey to players who like to hunt all sorts of game - even if a region is better for one thing or another. For example, Sundarpatan is tailored to big game hunters, while Revontuli is tailored to bird hunters.

I don't want to continue this debate, you just insist on being wrong, and passive aggressive about it the whole time which makes me want to keep reminding of just how stupid you're being. It's a shame that such a closed-minded and unpleasant person has done so much good work for suggesting interesting map locations in this game, because I was really hoping I could make myself useful in helping to make your work even better. See you round.

We already have Parque Fernado based in Argentina why would we need a reserve for species that should've been added originally. You can add all those species into the current map and they would fit in.

the land and the ecosystem exists independently of us, and the goal should be depicting it

Truthfully some of the bird species should have been on Parque to begin with

Argentina is more than Patagonia, you know

And that is why… because it messes up animal populations!

topaz sentinel

They backfill old species into new maps. They remodeled Blackbuck and Water Buffalo but there were already exclusively found in Parque, not anymore with Sunderpatan. Same with Axis Deer and Emerald Coast. Same with Mule Deer with rancho and silver ridge peaks. Any zone that gets deleted from Parque for a new species would make the map more enticing. Good theres only cinnamon teal on Parque Fernando do you not understand that? I can go to Silver Ridge Peaks and hunt Mountain Lions same model as Pumas or Mule Deer. GOOD IF THE ANIMAL POPULATIONS ARE MESSED CAUSE ITS AN OUTDATED DLC MAP!

Funny how we went from me being called stupid and passive aggressive because my stubborn ass refuses to include Jaguars on my concept list and now people are debating backfills

If a map is designed for those species to eventually become returning species doesn't sound like a good map.

Looks like they learned with there new maps anyways adding as many NATIVE species as possible tigerLaugh

# meager oar Backfill ≠ Returning species lol

I got it. But there’s no difference both are returning of an older species just one is in a new map one is in an old map. Fine Axis Deer and Water Buffalo and Blackbuck were returning species. Doesn’t change Mule Deer being backfilled. Most of these species can be introduced to Parque

I have one more potential species for this reserve, and no it is not the Jaguar.

I am introducing the Yellow Anaconda

It would be a Class 2 reptile where head shots are a must

As for multimounts with this snake I have a couple

  • Caiman Crush: 1 Yacare Caiman being constricted by 1 Yellow Anaconda (both would be female)
  • Hungry Snake: 1 Yellow Anaconda (Female) and 1 Brown Brocket Deer (Male)
  • Serpentine Battle: 1 Puma (Male) and 1 Yellow Anaconda (Male)
As one can tell from the multi-mounts, the females will be the ones scoring diamond, and while a large yellow anaconda may only get 12 1/2 feet long and 120 pounds, their larger cousin alongside Jaguar will feature on a reserve concept I am finializing

Since Sundarpatan came out with roughly half of their species being illegal to hunt IRL in Nepal (yes Blackbuck are a protected species that is off limits to hunting in Nepal), this opened the doors for what is possible regarding species, I still believe that all future reserves will still be set in countries that allow hunting which means my next reserve concept will not be in Brazil but in Peru, and there will be Andean White-tails there too (Can't be a Peruvian Hunting Reserve without them)

Now I have an extremely good reason to never include Jaguar into this concept: the #1272921994840768632

Some additional big game species I will be adding to even out the amount of birds on the map
And for reference there are 13 potential waterfowl species and 8 upland birds

The extra potential big game species
Broad-snouted Caiman - Class 4: It has a wider distribution then the Yacare Caiman

Pere David's Deer - Class 6: The largest animal on the reserve , they are mainly found in the wetland areas of the reserve

Feral Sheep - Class 3 or 4: An animal with many unique colour variations, they are found in the drier areas of Argentina

All the Feral Sheep variations, I would imagine a multi-mount would be needed to display several of the variations
