To bring this thread back to the original topic here are some Multi-mount Ideas for this Reserve

  • Eider Down: 1 Arctic Fox (Male) and 3 Common Eider (2 Male & 1 Female)
    • Similar to the Emergency Takeoff Multimount
  • King of the North
    • 1 Male Polar Bear and 1 Male Arctic Wolf
  • Polar Predator: 1 Male Polar Bear and 1 Male Ringed Seal
  • Impasse: 2 Arctic Wolves (1 Male & 1 Female) and 1 Muskox Bull

    • 1 Stone's Sheep
    • 1 Dall's Sheep
    • All must be male
  • Arctic Clash: 1 Male Polar Bear & 1 Male Walrus

I’m surprised with the inclusion of ||woodland caribou|| on the Alberta map

Guess that means the Caribou on Yukon Valley are Barren-ground, which works out well for this reserves concept

nimble smelt
#

On the bright side, a Canadian Arctic Reserve could still happen given how much space on the map likely exists between Askiy Ridge and Yukon Valley on the map

#

This Reserve could fit right in that space between Layton, Yukon and Askiy

I think both this and #1122396586866135181 would work well

This reserve concept is already focused on big game animals

This allows a Greenland Reserve to add species like Murre, seal species like the Hooded and Harp Seal and waterfowl like Common Eider, Barnacle Goose and Long-tailed Ducks

Polar Bear, Walrus and Seal Distribution on Whitrime Ridge

#

Muskox Range, they do enter some areas of boreal forest and muskeg but are mostly a tundra animal

#

Because the caribou can cross ice floes and swim (New mechanic that polar bears will also utilize) on this map, they range across most of the map

#

In the reverse of Muskox, the Moose are more of a forest dweller, but if their status as a game species in Nunavut is any indication its that they don't mind inhabiting the more treeless tundra if they can find food

#

Grizzly and Wolverine Range: The Wolverine would be much rarer then the grizzly bear but both would be relatively uncommon. The reason for the grizzly bear occuring on the two islands shaded in red is because these bears have been expanding into the Arctic Archipelago on Banks and Victoria Island. The map also has boundaries between subpopulations of grizzlies and wolverines with the grizzly bear being more abundant in the west.

# dull lily This map looks genuinely amazing. I just have a question. Isn’t Whiterime in Cla...

Yes, Whiterime in Classic is mainly based on Alaska

The reasons my version is set in Canada
• Canada has the largest polar population in the world
• Canada is the only country where non-indigenous hunters from Canada and abroad may hunt polar bears
• We have an Alaskan map in Yukon Valley and if we do get another Alaskan map it would likely be on the Kodiak Archipelago

I further chose to base it on the Northwest Territories since it allows for Dall’s Sheep hunting AND Polar Bear hunting

    • The 30-30 could use some new ammo types that can be used for Class 3 to 7 Species like Elk and Black Bear

IDK if anyone here has had Experience with Polar Bears or has friends that have it, But Polar Bears are Really Tough so Tough to the point that at 100 Metres they can be Fatally hit with a .375 H&H and Charge you before dropping (It happened to a Friend of mine)

nimble smelt
mint lintel
#

.375 H&H is The Least Powerful Caliber you'll see being used on Polars so in Addition to this Reserve having a New crossbow it also should have a .416

#

And Polar Bears have a Much Wider range in Canada than People Realize (The Bright Green is where you can Find Polars and the Tiny Red dot is my General Area)

mint lintel
#

This guy has Killed Dozens of Moose, Elk, Grizzly, And Bison but Polar Bears are the only thing he shoots Twice

nimble smelt
#

Thats more then enough reason to have them as a Class 9 Species when they come to this game, I do have to ask though, does he have any experiance with muskox?

mint lintel
#

He has Slight Experience with them, but he Hated Hunting them Because he Couldn't tell where the Shoulder was from 300 Metres Away XD

nimble smelt
mint lintel
#

Yes but he does Recommend .270 At the Minimum for them But only at Close Range

#

If anything I'd bump them down to Class 7 Because if you can Hit them Right they go down Pretty Easily (So I've heard)

mint lintel
#

To Quote my Friend "with Moose, Elk, Grizzly and Bison I never need to Shoot them Twice but Polar Bears are a Very different ball game. You absolutely cannot take a single chance with them so it's best to shoot them Twice or Even three times depending on what your rifle is Chambered for"

#

This Guy has been Charged by Grizzlies in Alberta and was Only Mildly shook but when he Is Driving around Hudson Bay in the Winter and sees a Polar Bear his face goes Red

mint lintel
#

He isn't Weary of them, He's Terrified of them

nimble smelt
#

I suppose "Terrified" is a more suitable word though

mint lintel
#

Got the two Confused LOL

#

And Polar Bears are much Bigger than People Realize, Most Grizzlies average out at around 900 Pounds while Most Polar Bears average out at 1300-1600 Pounds

So yeah Class 9 Is the Only place they Belong for Call of the wild Because of their size, Durability and Aggression

A potential weapon pack for this reserve: Dangerous Hunts Weapon Pack

  • Weapons: 416 Magnum Bolt-action Rifle, Reserve Draw Crossbow and 405 Winchester Lever-action
  • The 416 Magnum Bolt-action would cover Class 8 & 9 Species and will cover Class 10 Animals when we get those (Based on the 416 Remington Magnum)
  • The Reverse Draw Crossbow is a must as we only have one Crossbow in the game right now
  • The 405 would be a Lever-Action Equivalent to the 375

I second the No moose because they are just on too many maps already and the NW Territories and Nunavut (Which are what this map is based on) aren't well known for moose

mint lintel
#

The .223 Remington is One of the Most popular Calibers for Wolves In Canada too

nimble smelt
# daring tapir Could we get peary caribou instead and also no moose?

Peary’s Caribou are found on the Arctic Islands of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories and as the map shows, this is more of the mainland, hence Barren-ground Caribou are more fitting

But the Peary’s Caribou (alongside the Mountain Caribou) are on my “Non-essential Species list”

#

As for Moose @mint lintel , I did include the moose with the intent of having them be restricted to the southern half of the map, I could go further and have them restricted to the Southeastern Quadrant of the map

As for Arctic Wolves and wolves in general, I could bump them down a weapon class
I do think the Grey and Iberian Wolves should be bumped down to Class 4 as a lot of the good anti-wolf pack guns cover Class 4 species anyways

mint lintel

Ah good idea, Frankly every Class 4 Firearm should drop wolves instantly with a Double lung shot

That being said i think they should swap out red deer on Emerald Coast for something else, they if anything ruin the vibe there

deep halo

# deep halo Okay valid but Canada without moose is like America without unnecessary guns

I get that, you always have Alberta to hunt them on, but if we’re getting more Canadian maps i’d want to get a totally different experience. In the Arctic i want to go for arctic fox, polar bears, musk ox and so on, in British Columbia i want to go after wolverines, stone sheep dall sheep. Otherwise what is the point if the same animals are always gonna be there?

nimble smelt
#

Here are some points I would like to make regarding the Moose debate

  • Seeing as how Elk & Caribou/Reindeer are both divided into subspecies, doing the same for Moose would make each map with moose feel more unique, for example NEM would be the only map for Eastern Moose while Yukon Valley would have the giant Alaskan Moose
  • British Columbia is just as famous for moose as it is for its Stone's Sheep, Mountain Goat and Mountain Caribou, plus Moose are often hunted alongside Dall's Sheep in the Northwest Territories
  • If a Canadian Arctic map ends up set on the Mainland area, then yes there could be moose present but they would probably have a limited distribution, which would prevent them from overshadowing animals like Polar Bear, Muskox, Dall's Sheep and Walrus (They have a limited range in Nunavut: https://www.gov.nu.ca/sites/default/files/publications/2022-01/Moose.pdf )
    • Now if it was set in the High Arctic, then no moose, but also no Grizzly Bear or Dall's Sheep
  • As others have said, Moose hunting is basically associated with Canada and only one province has no moose on account of it having no big game animals at all (Prince Edward Island), in fact some moose hunting does take place in Nunavut (mostly by locals for meat)

# hardy osprey They just seem so scared of Africa but I pray it is

They are overthinking it that is the problem facing future African Reserves

All they have to make sure they do is make the terrain and animals fit the part of Africa the reserve is set in

For example if the reserve is a plains game reserve set in Namibia, don’t include animals like mallard duck and Thomson’s gazelle

hardy osprey
daring tapir
nimble smelt
daring tapir
# nimble smelt An African Reserve focused on plains game like Greater Kudu, Hyena, Impala, Wate...

Yeah and i think they realise that since they look through the most popular threads often (this was said by Vivi recently in the ”Is it time for another Q&A” post in feedback. I would also be happy with that suggestion as long as it brings remodels too. That’s why i think they don’t have it planned in the near future because they are following their roadmap of other things they want to achieve, but i really hope i’m wrong. As anyone else on here i can only speculate on what’s to come

daring tapir
#

Just was thinking about this: when they asked about which map we would want (which was Emerald Coast or Australia), they did a poll for this i remember i saw a picture of it, wasn’t the Arctic on that poll? And their reason for not making the Arctic happen this year was they wouldn’t be able to do it justice? How come we were able to vote for it if they didn’t even have the resources then? Someone please make this make sense

nimble smelt
#

I imagine if we get a Canadian Arctic Reserve a lot of the weapons from the new weapon pack would be great for the smaller game animals like Arctic Fox, Ptarmigan and Arctic Hare

Then the 257 would cover Caribou, Seal, Arctic Wolf and Dall’s Sheep

quasi garnet
daring tapir

The poll that was was before i was active in the community so i don’t know the dialogues from that time do you guys have any answers to my recent comment?

quasi garnet
daring tapir
quasi garnet
# daring tapir Yeah but the strange thing is is that it was in a poll for what map we would wan...

Idk. No clue why they would offer it as an option if they're not ready for it. Same with Africa. It's misleading. What I have noticed in the past few questionnaires/polls however is that you can start to get a decent idea of what an upcoming map might be. Look at the antler variation and fur variation polls from last year. Almost all the options to choose from ended up being on Askiy Ridge. Something to keep in mind and look out for.

daring tapir

So to bring things back onto topic

From what I could read regarding seal hunting calibres in Canada

A calibre like the 30-06 is very useful for taking seals on ice from long range, especially the larger species like Bearded Seals

But when hunted from boats apparently smaller calibres like the 22-250, 223 and 243 are used

I may update the weapon classes for both Ringed Seal and Bearded Seals (which could replace the moose in order to keep my species list at 20 species) to reflect this considering their respective sizes

#

Species List Update
• Moose is now listed as Western Moose
• Bearded Seal added as a Class 5 Species (they are a larger species of seal)
• Arctic Wolf down to Class 4

nimble smelt
#

This could definitely inspire a multi-mount or two with Muskox and Arctic Wolf

#

And this would be another fantastic multi-mount idea inspiration involving Muskox

The name “Muskox Huddle” would be appropriate

# daring tapir Wouldn’t class 5 be more realistic?

Weather wolves get bumped down to Class 4 or 5 it is obvious that wolves are far from being a Class 6 species

As far as the subspecies go the Iberian Wolf definitely needs to be bumped down to Class 4, the Grey Wolf (which should be split into Northwestern Wolf (Askiy Ridge, Yukon) and Eurasian Wolf (Medved)) could either be Class 4 or 5

Some potential new items that would come with this reserve
• Decoys for King Eider and Tundra Swan
• A new motion-based decoy for attracting predators like Lynx, Fox and more
• Hopefully a functional boat for players to use

Tundra Swan and King Eider Decoys

#

And something like this would be a good addition to come with this map. It could attract animals like Arctic Fox & Canada Lynx on this map, Coyote and Bobcat on Rancho, Foxes on New England Mountains or maybe even the elusive Snow Leopard in the high mountains of Sundarpatan

Considering that the Salzwiesen also came with a new weapon pack and new dog

I think that a weapon pack and a new log cabin themed trophy lodge should come out with this reserve

Another feature that would help this reserve stand out from other caribou/reindeer maps

Massive herds of Barren-ground Caribou

For gameplay purposes these herds wouldn’t number more then 40 and would roam about in specific areas of the map

I think I will draw a range map for each of the herds present on the map later today

Since I forgot to make the caribou range map here are some images of a barren-ground caribou from the Dolphin Union Herd, a herd that migrates from Victoria Island to the mainland

The Barren-ground Caribou Herds of Whiterime Ridge Wilderness

While the caribou and reindeer in the game are somewhat sedentary, I want the Barren-ground Caribou of Whiterime Ridge to move across the map in large herds that number between 20 and 50 caribou

The herds so far present on the map include

  • The Grizzly River Herd (Orange Line), which inhabit the northwestern parts of Whiterime and come into contact with caribou from the Arvik Coast Herd and Northern Mountain Caribou, they travel in 3 large groups numbering 45, 35 & 30 respectively)
  • The Arvik Coast Herd (Cyan Line), which mainly lives in the Arvik Coast region, they are split into 3 groups with each one numbering 25 caribou each
  • the Whiterime North Herd (Magenta Line) spends their time on Arvik Island (whale shaped island) and often travel down to the Whiterime Ridge Peninsula in two large groups that number 45 & 50 respectively
  • The Whiterime South Herd (Yellow Line) travels in 3 smaller groups that each number 20 caribou per group
  • The Tuktu Basin Herd (Green Line) travels in 4 similar sized groups (20 caribou each) along the Tuktu River they get their name from
  • The Aiviq Point Herd (Red Line) is another large herd with two groups that both number 45 caribou each that live in the eastern parts of the map

Because they stay on the move your best bet for hunting them is to figure out the path your target herd uses and set up an ambush. There are also smaller groups that follow the same movement patterns (these groups are between 5 & 10 caribou)

#

As mentioned I have decided to include Northern Mountain Caribou and I have included their range map, as far as gameplay goes they are no different from the Grant's Caribou, Woodland Caribou or Mountain Reindeer, its just the Barren-ground Caribou that move about in large herds (And the barren-ground caribou will swim across water to reach their destination)

This is a photo of an event I just found out about: This black bear apparently thought it was a good idea to try and feed on a seal carcass already claimed by two female polar bears with cubs in the Torngat Mountains of Labrador (Source: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/torngat-mountains-black-bear-fights-polar-bear-1.7644788), this would be a good inspiration for a multi-mount featuring a Polar Bear and a Black Bear fighting over a Bearded Seal carcass (And while black bears are not present on this map, there exist a multi-mount featuring Roosevelt's Elk and Puma despite the fact that they don't live on the same map)

Considering the news of the Desert Bighorn Sheep coming to the game soon, this means that a map like this could be a possible location for a map that introduces Dall's Sheep, its part of the reason I chose the Northwest Territories as it allows for the hunting of animals like Dall's Sheep and Polar Bear (The Walrus was a slight creative liberty since they are mostly hunted in Nunavut)

nimble smelt
#

Whiterime Ridge Wilderness P.S.A: Whiterime Ridge is home to the ferocious wolverine, the largest mustelid in the world and an animal capable of driving off grizzly bears and even the occasional polar bear off of their kill. They are also known to raid campsites and cabins for food and leaving their scent all over, leading to another name: Skunk Bear. Please ensure you lock up your cabin or lodge extra tight to keep the wolverines out

Soon we will have 2 of the 4 North American Sheep required for the Grand Slam of North American Sheep. For Dall's Sheep this map, set in the Northwest Territories would be the perfect map to have Dall's Sheep, and it would also come with species like Polar Bear, Muskoxen and Walrus

I felt like Rug Mounts would be a good inclusion for this Reserve simply because of the bears and seals

This set of animal information is inspired by #1445173202643845195 and I will be starting with the Wolverine

Wolverine (Whiterime Ridge Wilderness)

Main Diet IRL: They are primarily scavengers that will either feed on carrion or bully predators like bears and lynx off of their kills, but they are capable predators that feed on animals like various rodents (Beavers, Porcupines, Marmots, etc), hares, birds, smaller predators like foxes and ungulates like caribou and sheep

Other food items: Of course the Wolverine is an omnivore as they will consume bird eggs, roots, insect larvae and berries

Target Prey Animals: Hoary Marmot, Arctic Hare, Spruce Grouse, Snow Goose (When landed), Tundra Swan (When landed), King Eider (When landed), Arctic Fox, North American Porcupine, Dall's Sheep (Below level 2), Barren-ground Caribou (Below level 2), Northern Mountain Caribou (below level 2), American Mink, Western Moose (Lone cows or bulls below level 3)

Predators it can spook: Canada Lynx, Arctic Wolf (When alone or in pairs), Grizzly Bear (Below Level 5), Polar Bears (Level 1 to 3 bears)

Predarors that can spook the wolverine: Arctic Wolf (When in a pack), Grizzly Bears (Level 5 & Above), Polar Bears (Level 4 & Above)

#

Arctic Wolf (Whiterime Ridge Wilderness)

Main Diet IRL: While the Arctic Wolf themselves mainly prey on Muskoxen and Arctic Hare, they also prey on Caribou, Fox, Birds and Lemmings. Other wolves in the Northwest Territories also hunt caribou, muskox, moose, sheep and smaller animals like rodents, hares, birds and fish

Target Prey Animals: Snow Geese, King Eider and Tundra Swan (When landed), Rock Ptarmigan, Spruce Grouse, Hoary Marmot, Arctic Fox

  • When in a pack of 2 at least: Arctic Hare, North American Porcupine
  • When in a pack of 3 to 5: Barren-ground Caribou, Northern Mountain Caribou, Dall's Sheep, Muskoxen (when alone), Ringed Seal and Bearded Seal (If they are on land)
  • When in a pack above 5: Western Moose, Muskoxen (When part of a herd)

Predators it can spook: Canada Lynx, Wolverines (In packs larger then 3 animals)

Predarors that can spook the Arctic Wolf: Wolverine (When alone or in pairs), Grizzly Bear (when alone or in pairs), Polar Bear (Unless they are in a larger pack)

#

Grizzly Bear (Whiterime Ridge Wilderness)

Diet IRL: Grizzly bears in the Canadian Arctic feed on caribou from spring to autumn and have been known to also prey on muskox, moose and smaller mammals like ground squirrels. They also feed on fish, carrion, berries and other planets like sedge and arctic cotton grass

Target Prey Animals: Northern Mountain Caribou and Barren-ground Caribou, Muskoxen, Western Moose, Ringed and Bearded Seals (When on land), Porcupine, Arctic Hare, Hoary Marmot, Waterfowl, Rock Ptarmigan, Spruce Grouse

Predators it can spook: Canada Lynx, Wolverines (Only bears above level 5), Arctic Wolf (When the wolf isn't in a pack), Smaller Polar Bears

Predarors that can spook the Grizzly Bear: Wolverine (If they bear is below level 5), Large Arctic Wolf Packs, Larger Polar Bears

nimble smelt
#

Polar Bear (Whiterime Ridge Wilderness)

Main Diet IRL: These bears almost exclusively hunt seals with the Ringed Seal being the preferred target though Bearded Seals can also be taken

Secondary Diet IRL: When seal hunting isn't as productive polar bears will hunt just about any other animal from birds and caribou to more dangerous fare like walrus. They also consider humans a perfectly acceptable target

Target Prey Animals: Seals, Walrus (Below level 4), Caribou, Muskox (When alone), Waterfowl (When landed)

Prey Animals it can spook: Everything else

Predators it can spook: Canada Lynx, Wolverines (Only bears above level 4), Arctic Wolf (When the wolf isn't in a pack), Smaller Grizzly Bears

Predarors that can spook the Polar Bear: Wolverines (Only bears below level 4) Large Arctic Wolf Packs, Larger Grizzly Bears (Level 7,8 & 9 Grizzlies can spook smaller polar bears)

And idea came into my head relatively recently regarding map sizes. I know a lot of people didn't seem to like how small Salz is and while I would love to see some more small maps like that, I also wonder how open people would be to maps that dwarf all others in terms of size.

In terms of Area Size I was thinking of these bigger maps being twice the size of a standard hunting reserve

And for what reserve settings would work with this idea naturally this Canadian Arctic Reserve would benefit but so would a reserve set in Central Asia and of course Africa 2.0 ( #1195097534239088720 ), especially so that all 7 members of the Dangerous 7 can all comfortably fit on the reserve

Another Reason to want a Canadian Arctic Reserve set in the Northwest Territories: Animals like Dall's Sheep and Wolverine can be backfilled to Yukon Valley, additionally Wolverine could also be backfilled to Medved Taiga

Edit: I did not add these to the species list since I am not 100% I want cryptids to be something that can be encountered on future reserves

Edit 2: I did have a whole write up on potential cryptids for this reserve (Waheela as a prehistoric bear dog and Saytoechin as Megalonyx jeffersoni) but when I thought about it I didn't like the idea so much since it would lead to less work being done on other aspects of the game

The only country that allows non-indigenous hunters to hunt polar bear are the Canadian Territories of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories (where this reserve is set)

Canada is the best place for polar bear hunting IRL due to the Arctic Regions of Canada being home to the largest polar bear population with most hunting taking place in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. The Northwest Territories is also one of the main areas in Canada for people wanting to hunt Dall's Sheep. Muskoxen are also a popular species to hunt in the Canadian Arctic
