Only thing they could hint towards is time of day - BUT... Let's say TK says it only exists during night - the prints would still persist during day, so that doesn't make any sense.
And since they're testing for the spawn rates, it can't be something that's tied to a small area alone, for example a certain cave etc.

Yeah i think it's better chance that the glitch was that the game engine was supposed to adjust whatever specific code of whitetail to the great one, and somehow got messed up and changed the lodged one. It's possible that even it's like, 0.05% chance a diamond becomes a great one and that a great one is always fabled color, and that the game assigned the already mounted deer to the same code and swapped it's skin type. idk.

TL;DR - antlers have a "typical" pattern of growth. Whitetails have tines coming off a single main beam, always in a generally upward direction. a non-typical would be tines pointing the wrong way, tines growing from other tines, and generally just looking... well... like that

It's not SUPER different, but things are just judged differently. Like it's a totally separate category. The largest non-typical that I can remember off the top of my head was a whitetail that scored something like 338 inches overall. It was ridiculous.

If you walk the "river of lakes" as I call it on the left hand side of the map from 5-9:30 and again from 12-15:30 you will see whitetail everywhere.

Also another tip for everyone. I seem to have found on my own that white tails/most animals don’t travel very far to get to need zones. I noticed that all of the essential need zones for a white tail throughout the day were about 300ish yards away from each other.

oh, another oddity. in hirschfelden. the story mission where you need to harvest 2 deer in the marked cornfeilds, due to having a need zone literally 10 feet outside of the zone, i cant seem to get any deer to come into it to finish the mission. might be a fluke, but who knows

Quick thoughts, when the pielald in the lodge got revealed the devs said it was a bug, but it's name could be the name of the new super rare, which could be a unicorn whitetail perhaps with that piebald appearance (they exist but are super super rare, think 3 horned deer) a unicorn is always described as a fabled animal, thoughts?

very stupid thought, the amount of data needed to send the number of harvest WT to a server with a counter would literaly be about 2 kb per person., what if they are testing a global spawn rate based on "hunting pressure" by world species? hiding in the background of a beta would be easy.

But... if that was the whole thing, why did the game engine mistakenly label animals the great one or fabled? Why spend time coding in a fake "the great one" medal if you were just watching to see what the community would do. Seems like a lot of extra work and money for something that could be tested way easier.
Plus not to mention the backlash from a community manager promising the community that when they see it their jaw will drop, and then going "surprise sorry you waste 3 days on whitetails we were just gathering data"

expanding the rating system, is somethin i think is and would be nessisary to do that idea. but to test that you need the community to hunt WT. so give them bone on a stick and watch them run and chase it.. and they get there testing data

But.. they could do it without any of the coding that is proven to be new. They could just say "we have a surprise, go hunt whitetail" without the clues. Or hell, "theres a new skin (fabled piebald) in whitetail first person to find it gets a prize." why the secrecy, the jaw dropping promises, the potential to piss off the community? Why go to all this trouble, straight up lie ("if you see tracks that look too heavy, thats intentional", etc) for something like that?
one person is supposed to get the prize and be a legend in the community for finding it... what is there to recieve a prize for if it's what your theory is?
