Okay so in this video, he went around to a bunch of lakes to find drinking zones and then set up a tent + outpost about 150 meters from each one. He shot a male deer each time before setting up the stuff and moving on-- He said it was to fast travel back to them in a looping run for respawns?
Can anyone explain more, because I finished the video but I feel like I've been hunting wrong this whole time lol

@agile citrus @axohhlol On Twitch Colorado Outpost. Also have them at Ouray Outpost, near the larger lake south of Chipeta Outpost (stay on the road), and west of Plains Bison Outpost, Rocky Mountain Elk outpost all have turkey zones for me.
@silver sable Grind as much as possible, then work on some other species. Return to Mulies, grind, repeat. I did this with Plains Bison on Yukon. Started with ONLY Bronze and Silvers. Then got many golds. I now have two diamond Bison off Yukon using this method. Good luck!
@fluid lagoon What caliber? With the 7.62x54r (DLC gun), it only has soft points and I've taken animals out to 150m. With my 7mm and poly tips, I've taken animals out past 350m.

@elder lichen for black bears the best spot or simple way to hunt them is 4pm onwards around lakes. go silver ridge peaks top right corner lakes and you will see double the amount in your picture around that one lake alone. good luck ! 😁

@elder lichen Updated. Also try after dark at that lake, especially to the north of it. If you go mid-range along the river (sorry I don't have a more precise area), and near the bridge over the river, you should find more bears.

Just keep grinding them. Take only males, the biggest you can, as many as possible without wrecking your zones. Go and take another species, come back, rinse, repeat. I got two diamond buffalo when I started with Silver at best this way on Yukon.
Disregard males only. Females can make diamond, so just anhillate them.

thank you @bitter bay , I only use poly, but using both the mosin (single type) and the garand, I noted a better performance on the last one (keeping in mind the bullets different performances) . Since everywhere it is suggested to go for poly, for distances and chances for double penetration, I was looking how to get the best from the softpoint, thinking that a better spread should kill the animal quickly.

@fluid lagoon No problem. I thought the same thing too (better expansion, bigger trail). What I've really noted as of late that the better the penetration on a typical lung shot (i.e, double lung) yields the largest blood trail/fastest/instant kill outside of a heart shot. A 7mm on a Pronghorn, for instance, gets you a perfect score and a near instant kill. It seems more using the largest possible caliber for the animal you're hunting will get you the most effective kill shot. I have my die-hard favorites but I'm looking into a bigger gun for things like moose, elk, and bison.

I thought that a spreaded bullet will give a strong "kick" and shock to the animal, but it seems that this kind of physic (quiet hard to code I think) is not present
I noticed too that the blood trail is only relate to the organs and not other factor. i.e. an arrow has a huge performance, balanced by the distance

Sorry if this is a lot to ask, but does anyone have head-on photos/screenshots or videos of where to hit heart shots (non x-ray?) for Layton animals? I find it quite difficult trying to make shot placement on animals facing my direction without knowing where to fire.
I can’t tell if it’s right above the curve of the chest, right below the head, simple adjustments like that. I know the general location of them though, however miss by a inch or so.

Why do people recommend the MN1890? I’m having bad luck with it at the moment. Having much better luck with the drilling shotgun with the 9.3X74R rifle ammo. Practically putting down warthogs in one shot but struggle to hit a vital organ with the MN1890

The Mosin is a great rifle. It packs a punch, looks/sounds great, and it's fairly light and versatile. It's much better than the standard .243.
Tho I have had trouble with it when shooting head-on (may be a bug), so I prefer to shoot broadside with it
And the Grelck is meant for bigger game, I prefer to have both on me for 3-9

You could use a bow to replace them both if you wanted to, just depends on your play style. Bows can range from 1-9 because of the diff arrows/bolts so they're great all rounders, but it's a lot harder to get those long shots in.

@keen agate I wish I could say the same. My rounds don't even make it through a buffalo's hide at 250m+ after the last few updates. I have to get in a lot closer because of it, but when I'm feeling lazy I just use the .300.
Yeah I highly recommend the bows, they're pretty OP. Just takes a little practice. I'm trying out the longbow now and its insanely good, I think I prefer it over the compounds from what I've seen so far

My game is broken; big time.
I just started the Cuatro Colinas mission "Divine Reckoning" and while I was in the tunnel the wolf from the mission glitched himself outside of the gates so I'm permanently stuck inside now with no way to kill the stupid wolf.
I'm going to try letting it kill me through the gates hold on
I let him kill me, and I respawed and drove the 1km back to the monestary. I killed it (after chasing him almost 500 meters) and now to complete the rest of the arc.

If you have the goose dlc, they are the best money making animals in the game for sure. They give same as deer and come in as flocks so you can get multiple at once. And you can just sit around, do something else and when you hear honking, then focus on the game. Pretty chill way to earn 🙂

If i remember, there are also Canadian Goose at Hirschfelden. A map that i still like a lot, even when it's pretty dense foliage at many places, is why i like it to stalk my prey. Good practice when bow-hunting 😮

Depends on what ammo your using. For the more powerful ammo for the 357, 357 is better but the powerful ammo for the 44 is better than the 357
And of course it depends on what species if your hunting roe deer, 357. If your hunting whitetail, 44.

@topaz snow No fix at the moment and i hope they will fix it at the september update or so. NEED to find ALL 3 cameras before continue with the rest or it will fail. Same if a mission tell you to Take and TRANSPORT it to somewhere else, don't stop or quit the game before it is delivered, or fail will happen as well. Have also had this issue and couldn't wait till there's a fix, so have reastarted a "New game", after knew why this happened. Also do the tasks in the right order, or this mission will fail as well. Hope this helps a bit.. 😉 🙂

always make a backup, If you turn off steam cloud sync and delete the file %userprofile%/Documents/COTW/Saves/save folder (numbers)/missions_missiondata_adf it let me redo the missions and get past a dangerous situation or w/e the name was since I made sure to get all 3 cameras the second time lol

So I'm relatively new to the game, I'm mainly looking to hunt deer and maybe small game, what's the best set up and way to hunt them

Find as many drink zones as you can. They’re your best bet at finding animals since they drink in open areas and usually give you a good shot. Stay with the .243 if you’re hunting mainly deer and invest in polymer tip bullets since they offer better penetration than soft-points. For small game, get the .22 ASAP. It has the right ammo for ducks, rabbits and turkey. The .243 covers every other animal class that involves deer (Up until 6 which is Elk)
And always be aware of the harvest check if you’re going for trophies - Shoot an animal less than twice, use the right ammo, get at least one vital hit, and do not shoot the trophy organ (usually skull)

for moose the best rifle is probably the 300, but the 7mm and the 338 are also good

A good way is to 'Spot' it with binocular, then shoot it, the Spotted animal will show on your map where it exact was at the moment of spotting.. is very helpful

you're welcome, it happened to me as well, even a distance of 20meter, aimed carefully, shot it its lungs, it ran away but never saw blood or found it again, since then for make sure, hwen i've the time, spot the animal, then try to take it down. Enjoy your hunt 🙂

Rathenfeld, up north where you find first tower and outpost, follow the road there where you can go to the left, will find on that corner and to the left/west also. Is one of the spots where will find Red Deer, also there to the right on the water, couple of interesting spots to find Red Deer as well. Of course it's good to read in the menus about them, then will know when they're most active etc (is actually not bad to read about most animals you'd like to hunt etc)

So is their a way i could get keen senses? or am i boned. the perks that i've circled are really essential for me but the ones that i half crossed i could go without. should i spend 90% of my wallet to reset my perks or am i boned?

you need 5 skill spoints to unlock tier 3 i believe
