help my game keeps crashing on start up

any ideas why this is happening?
Have you tried relog on steam?
when hunting in multiplayer and aiming at the same group of animals, how do you know whos kill is whos prior to claiming it, while xp is gained and i think maybe even cash, the harvest opportunity is lost right if one person claims its voided for all others?
@short dragon i have done that 10 times the game has crashed around 30 times
hmm
Yep
Does it show any error or just instant crash?
Crash then the send crash report
Best time to hunt geese at?
@short dragon apairently one of my critical files yeeted its self and that is what broke my game
p.s i know i cant spell
RIP
Around 7-10am Cosmic
I just grinded out the .357 on Hirsch until I got polymers. Moved onto blacktail from there.
Its a lot quicker if you have dlc, tho. Using the .22 on ducks/geese or skipping the .357 in favor of the .45 or any other pistol available can help.
Just kill anything you can, just like with the rifles for rifle scores
got it
If you're quick enough, you can take out that thicc turkey in your pfp. 1000 xp, easy
how do you track better
i was chasing a boar for like 20 minutes
fresh droppings my ass
i killed a lynx while i was tracking it
cuz it was taking so long
When that happens, just go for another tbh I do the same
yeah but it's so fucking boring tracking an animal and having to do it all over again
Go for heart or spine shot š¤·āāļø
don't go for spine
do u think i can just land a heart shot after running for 30 minutes
Hm
The spine is not a vital organ to my knowledge, so i would say your better off aiming for the lungs, heart and or (if you have too) liver.
@last hemlock Also just don't run.
You won't have to worry then.
then explain how i track animals
Running = Animals spooking further which = more tracking.
Well, how you shoot boar and it doesn't even drop automatically?
At least should drop a few meters away not like 10km
he's probably aiming for the intestines or legs. Aim more far forwards so you can hit the lungs or heart.
no no no
You can not hit the skulls of animals, that is a trophy organ that if damaged ruins the animals score.
Aim for the lungs or heart. It's an easy shot and brings animals down in under seconds if you are using the right weapon.
say why do you run like you're mordbidly obese in this game
It's because it's suppose to encourage you to walk and stalk your animals. Running isn't a good way to get around.
It spooks animals.
Tbh, devs should work on the movement in COTW, a peaceful walk makes 200% noise
Well just don't wear backpacks, that's really the only way to not spook everything.
they should tweak how animals don't care about the slug in their body
Well they do care, if you hit them in the lungs.
And also what animals are you targeting using slugs? Which slugs are you using?
16 gauge
if they don't care about the 9.3x74r in their body already
speaking of not caring
i shot a deer with a 9.3x74r and you would not believe it
it actually died
lol
Well where are you aiming?
Like i have said before, the skull is not a vital organ and will ruin the animal.
front of the animal
it was running because of a warning call
which i still don't know why they do
Nahh dude, you have to wait for a broadside shot.
The only time I aim on front of the animal is for heart and it's while bow hunting nothing else
Well most females always score 0
@last hemlock Are you on pc? Cause you seem like your gonna need some help.
Since it seems you know nothing about this game.
ew
Do not aim for the brain.
i thought that they would die
if a high speed projectile got into their skull
guess not
I've seen a lot of animals even on brain hit, they still run like hell
Imma host a server @last hemlock Name is Charliedakat885
no need
kekw
i just wanna shoot innocent animals
That's not the point of the game being honest. It's about collecting diamonds and rares.
That's why there's levels.
Each animal has a different level set for diamond and such.
Well you mount it in your lodge.
Tbh, nothing it's just for flex @last hemlock
That's basically it.
That's a little guide i use to use for the levels
But i know em all now.
what is useless?
flexing
well I like just filling up my lodges, it's a fun thing to do.
i've visited the archery range in the steppe
still dosen't make the mission compelte
what a good and functional game with crystal clear directions
nvm
How do you guys go about grinding need zones?
Do you mean how do we herd manage within a need zone?
can u place waypoints by pressing a key and it appears where u look
like not on map
i'd like to know how far i am away from an animal before it BOLTS
When you spot an animal and you zoom in it appears as an icon in the map and you can use that as a reference
Then why the heck I can't spot them with my scope
Yup, thanks anyway
leveling up takes ages
I'm still lvl24
11 here
But since it was taking ages to lvlup, I just started a new account lol
Leveling might seem it takes ages at first but it ramps up nicely with better gear you unlock. As CarbyPatty said, do missions while hunting and it adds up fast š
Ok let me scroll up
How to grind need zones? There are couple ways. You can 1. run around and spot animals in zones / find them around. I'd suggest go around waters for drink zones since those are easiest to find. or 2. open up a multiplayer session and when players find zones while you are the host, those zones are added to your single player map too. But other players can also overhunt and delete zones so that can be a bit risky if you do it with randoms. Having friends to help you on that will help.
Thanks. Is the wiki correct that all animals have need zone times or is it random? I have need zone times that do not match with the wiki's
Yes they do, but the time might not be correct
Yes, all animals do have zones. Haven't checked the wiki so don't know if they are up to date.
I thought there were a herd of bears riding moose coming through this forest
Nope, just two rabbits.
sfx are still unbalanced and sometimes I think even buggy
Is there some trick to the Andersson .22LR? I am missing very close shots, something seems off?
you have the classic giant rabbits, and the other day in yukon the ONLY thing I could hear was my own footsteps, sounded earie
It seems like it shoots a lot higher than the sight
I tried all 3 zeroings
yea, I can kind of tell a hooved' animal, a rabbit, and a bear now
and then a coyote because the steps are so sparse usually
a rabbit sounds like a freight train
Bears tend to take a quick jolt at once
Yea, the footsteps seem like they get too loud too quickly, and then they arent exactly centered on the animal
It could be my headset, but I dont think so
Does anyone know if anything other than the actual scope counts for Beatty #9
Im assuming and hoping the red dot does
What is the best way to hunt a map? Should I shoot everything I see in an area, should I only shoot high trophy males, etc?
I guess I should specify best way to cultivate diamonds on the map
Shooting everything you see it's only if you're desperate for credits
Otherwise, shoot hgh trophy males only
Will a female of an animal only ever spawn a female of that species or something?
No, there's always male
I'm more asking why do you not shoot the females?
If you shot everything, wouldnt that up the odds that something diamond spawns on the map
No point in shooting them, just for credits
I guess I am making an assumption that the population of animals holds constant, and that killing 1 spawns one somewhere else
Shoot every male is my philosophy
Like, I spent 4 hours looking for high trophy Elks, and didn't shoot any of them I saw, till I see a Albino Elk in there, females are jsut credits farm
If itās a herd with multiple males, shoot the biggest one first and save the rest for other shots
Im more wondering about the spawn mechanics
Are all say.. bronzes blocking a potential diamond spawn
Doesn't matter how many you shoot down
Or does it not work like that
Nope, if you shoot an animal with a a trophy score 2 things can happen when it respawns, it has a chance of it respawning bigger, and it has a chance of it respawning smaller
Damn, while I was talking here a lvl4 elk waiting right in front of me
So if you shoot a bronze male, it has a chance at respawning as a silver, shoot the silver, has a chance at respawning as a gold, and so on
So, trophy scoring animals and non trophy scoring animals dont share the same spawner?
aka a female and male moose wouldn't occupy the same spawn slot
Iām not sure what you mean by āspawn slotā
Well, there has to be some population threshold right?
Or else eventually you would see no game or the entire map would be covered
Right
So, when you shoot something, something else has to come in
Oh yeah
Thats what I am calling a spawn slot
So yeah, there will be an equal number of males and females on your map because of respawns
A female canāt respawn as a male
And a male canāt respawn as a female
Ok, cool thanks
Np
So, I assume you keep the females because A. They cant respawn as anything diamond and B. They could still preserve the Need zone?
Youāre exactly right
Cool, starting to make sense thx
Now obviously if the female has a rare fur color, you shoot it
Like me, every time I see a lvl2 with a fur color bang
Are all species females non trophy scoring? What about say.. a coyote? That goes by weight, right?
Right
So, the males and females are the same, or is one sex actually heavier
Some females have trophy scores but naturally are always smaller
Are there any species where the females are bigger?
Ok, need to jot that one down somewhere. Im working through the maps in introduction order.. kind of
Hares too
I did Layton first, but I know Hirchfelden was technically first
I have two missions left on Layton, both involving a 44 magnum to continue.. but I needed a change of scenery
The handguns arent as fun as the Bow, Rifle, or Shotgun
In that order for me
I cringe when I get a handgun quest haha
Yeah I agree, BUT handguns are well worth it on the fun scale once you get the bigger ones
From what Iāve heard, the .454 rhino is stupid powerful
I have the .22LR Andersson?
I feel like something is wrong when I put the Exact sight on it
It shoots to the right of where I am
I donāt have any trouble using the sights so sorry canāt help you there
Iād recommend you try it out some more at the shooting range
Itās near the starting outpost on an island
In Hirshfelden
I did, at the archery range. Thats where I figured out that it was shooting right
Its better without any sight, so I just keep it that way
I was just trying to get the handgun score up for the 44
Just gotta stay at the grind and for the love of everything nice donāt use the .357
Boy, I can already see these mountains in Hirshfelden are going to be my bane
Yea, I started using that colt 45
I went ahead and got everything but the Smoking Barrels DLC when it was on sale, still trying some guns out
Have you tried the M1 yet? I heard itās a great rifle
Its what I am testing now, it covers the spread of animals in this area well
Gonna be hard to top the compound bow with the hi tech sight though
My favorite so far
With the penetration perk, things just.. die
Yeah bows are great in this game
Iāve used the crossbow and compound so far, gonna give the recurve a try soon
I didnt give the crossbow a fair shake, haha
I tried to use it on a mission I had to kill from a ground blind
..hit the bottom of the railing infront of me
and put that back in storage haha
Happens to me all the time with every gun lmao
The reason I donāt use blinds much anymore
I also tried to shoot through the crack in the door.. only to realize that crack isnt really there haha
You said you have most the dlc right? Give tripods a go, theyāre like better blinds, and you donāt have to worry about railing
Tree stands too
Tripods seemed so good, that I didnt really want to use them yet haha
It was almost fish in a barrel when I set one up on a lake in layton
Pretty much, but itās great for diamond grinding
I think I have only seen an 8 bear, and then 4's in the non predators. No diamond potentials yet
Level 4 can actually make diamond on certain animals
Yea, someone explained that to me the other day, with the TruRac system
I have a 4 moose that scored well into diamond
Yeah itās definitely rarer to make diamond, just keep at it
Worst case scenario, itās not a diamond and it respawns
I guess its better than seeing one and.. missing haha
Though maybe not, since you know where it exists on your map
Right
Thatās one thing I love about this game
The animals are permanent until death, you donāt have to worry about them despawning just because you missed
(With exception to certain bugs and glitches)
Imagine despawn when you're about to shoot hmmm reminds me something
I've only had 2 or 3 animals disappear after I downed them, body, blood trails, and footprints. All just gone
adios
But I did run into crashing issues and missing caches, which checking the local files fixed
non topic I just missed vital organ hit on lvl5 elk
Will it be hard to find again within the same day?
What gun did you use? If it was a flesh hit with no bones, and itās not too big caliber, you might be able to get a 2nd shot
I was trying to track a heavy bear, I noticed the footprint appeared way less regularly
and with huge gaps
From what I can tell big animals can leave less tracks so itās more important you hit a good shot
I used the 7mm, aiming for the heart cuz it was literally free hit but I missed it, so he is just bleeding out slowly
If you hurry you should have another chance to bop it
Oh man, maybe I should take the less falling damage just for this zone..
these cliffs..
yea getting too close isn't great
any tips on hunting deer with buckshot?
i suppose you just place hunting blind near a need zone and wait
yea either hide in a bush or a tripod and call them close
and probably just give em 2 shots as quick as you can, just to be sure
my layton map is fucking dogshit for whitetail
how do i fix this?
i change the time to whitetail drink time and at most find three zones if that, and i run all the way through roonache into that split in the river
i just wanna grind for a diamond or rare whitetail buck š¦
Start from the top end of the map instead
If I start from the outpost in willepeg I find quite a bit
On balmort railroad
lol
so should i just run the railroad?
Or jsut spam call near the Roonache Outpost right next to the resting zone of the black bear
Nah, go walking and stop every few steps to call
Done it during night time btw
ok
Whats diamond weight for pronghorn
can someone help me with vurhonga?
i just need the drink times of lions, cape buffalo, and any other speicies yall know of, i wanna start hunting that map
@vestal silo pinned to this very channel is a-a-ron's spreadsheet which has all the information you've requested.
ok
Honestly, it's well worth taking a look at, the information on it is staggering. I prefer his newer "sorted by reserve" sheet.
Is hunting pressure applied from where you shot, where the animal was originally hit, or where it went down at?
the spot where it was first hit
What if you shoot it and it doesn't die, then you find it later and hit it? From the second hit?
afaik, it'll still show up in the first spot
Interesting, thanks
And how many kills before it wipes need zones (without blinds/stands)
not really sure about that
hmmm that seems too little
Iād say 2 kills is a good number to stop
Any more than 2 and you risk deletion, plus itāll take forever to clear up pressure if you donāt have a tripod
depends on map as for hirschfelden just go get some geese all pressure deleted in 20 mminutes
I think geese on my map are invisible
Iāve heard them get really close and Iāve seen their shadow on a sunny day but Iāve never seen one
so if you delete a need zone, a new one appears?
But elsewhere
basically when you turn an area into a mass grave, the animals move over a bit
Ye
yea one time i got a 4 it was a diamond so who knows
Yeah level 2 and 3 moose are very frequent
Level 4 not so much, but I have a diamond and itās a 4 so yeah. Never seen a level 5 before
I've seen a 5 once
Yea I got a level 4 and a 5 diamond moose been for but that was like 2 months ago
Oof
Iāve seen a bunch of big estimate level 4 kudu and spring bok, all have made just a couple points off diamond
Iāve killed 2 diamond kudu but that was original score 954 and 962
I just saw in a video it's 4 to clear
And then 16 or so from a stand/blind, since I guess you get 1/4th the pressure?
That happened with a lion to me yesterday dark brown level 9 troll
What are the best rifles for distance?
7mm keeps power at range for medium-big game
Where can I post a recording of a really strange yet funny bug? xD
nvm. guess it's too powerful??? :/
@teal breach I have never gotten the 30-06 before or tired it, but i can tell you hands down, the 7mm Magnum is all you need
But, it does come with the cost of only being able to have one shell in the magazine at a time
We talked about shooting the males in herding animals to preserve the need zones. What about non-herding animals?
Like bears and coyotes on Layton
Exactly the same principle, shoot the mid to high level male animals
Purely for the respawn? Their need zones will still disappear, since they are solitary, right?
Yeah it's purely for the respawn and their need zone will disappear if they're solitary.
Thanks moggy
new player here. addicted to the game now. can you please confirm the sound bar and how many meters they represent? 1 white bar equals? 1 red is? and at what range do animals start to hear you? thanks!
@cosmic totem from what I understand it isn't so easy. Several animals have different modifiers to their senses (Some have excellent eyesight, others have better smell etc), and also environmental modifiers like rain. I feel like it takes a lot of time getting used to things. I was too impatient at the start and constantly got animals running off again when I tracked them, but that's how you learn. If you want to find out what spooked them, in the codex profile you see how many animals you spooked by what. Look at the current numbers before you start stalking, and if it runs off, compare to current numbers.
Usually, I go upright (but almost never run) up to 100m to a stationary animal at a needzone, then crouch fast, crouch and finally latest 50m in, I go prone. But it depends and it's a learning curve. Observe and improve
If you can, I recommend that you get the skill that lets you spot an animal and see its behavior as soon as possible
Itās a really helpful skill for knowing when to crouch or when to crawl
Is it? I always thought that you should be able to see this visually wether the animal eats or freezes and looks to you etc..?
Plus, it only helps if you see the animal. Oftentimes, I get warning calls before even seeing the animal I'm tracking XD
That's the most difficult thing, judging how fast to track. Too slow and it's getting away from you, too fast and it spooks. And those dropping ages aren't useful at all. I had "old" droppings and find the animal 100m further, slowly walking or stopped at a needzone I didn't yet know.
Question about needzones, sometimes I find walking tracks of an animal and detect a needzone really far away. How does this happen, and can it be forced somehow? How do you guys go about scouting a new map or area for needzones?
much easier to just sorta walk in the direction of the tracks and wait for a warning call
and yea the need zone dot may appear a little ways away
Which 12g shotgun is better?
idk. pump action can be fun, but the 2 shots is usually plenty anway. the Grankin shotgun you get from Medved missions has some boosted stats.
I find pump action more useful because of the capacity
What are the best places ik YV and CC for wolves
is there a way to get a lodge without buying DLC?
no

I'm trying to hunt coyotes in cheelah for the mission, but no matter where I go I can never find any even when I use the caller
Coyotes can be daunting. Try placing a few tent in the area and fast travel between them.
I'll give that a try, although it'll take a while since I don't have enough money for a tent
What's a good rifle for Cape buffalo?
the 300 i would say
Ok Ty, been using the 7mm
Is the mn1890 an good rifle overall?
Ive heard a guy on youtube say Weapon Pack 2 is worth it just for that Mosin Nagant (MN1890)
The MN was the daddy of rifles pre 2.0. It hasn't got any worse, rather a lot of other rifles are now more useful.
ooh
well eventually Ill buy pretty much every piece of DLC but for now Im just using my .243 and .270 with hyperion scope (should I put a hyperion on the 243 as well?)
Sure, put it on and see if you like it. Once you've bought it, you can fit it on as many rifles as you like
i don't think there's a better scope in the game than the hyperion anyway tbh
And I know a lot of players agree. Personally I prefer the Argus and it's stronger zoom
I still use the hyperion, even when I own the Argus. I keep the Argus in my bag if I would have a very long shot
The thicker edges of the Argus scope distract me
right, can always switch anyways
Anyone else uses the ranger perk instead of zeroing, especially for use with the 3-aimdot Crossbow scope, or maybe the non-rangefinder bow scopes?
no, i can't live without my zeroing
i think it shouldn't be an active perk
it's so much more useful than the other ones, the rest don't get used at all ever
I don't fully see that reason when it comes to the crossbow. I can understand it if you're into longrange rifle shots
well with the crossbow you could do without, it's true, but i'm not gonna switch back and forth
also when i range the crossbow to 50m and aim with the lowest dot i can get pretty good shots at 100m
My idea is that with the spotting skill and ranger, you don't even need a bino anymore. Just use the weapon scope, spot and range included š
I feel like 100m is too far for the xbow.. but I intend to go to the range to get used to 70m shots with 420 and 600gr bolts and try if I can manage to not spook the rest of the herd.
I don't like the need to constantly switch between items.. bino, weapon - no good shot yet - now the animal moves, new range - bino..
well i think without the perk it's ranged for 30m right? so you wouldn't have good aim on 100m targets
i was getting jackals at 100m with the 300gr bolt it was great
Would have to find out what range the black line under the lowest dot would be
there's many ways to play the game, that's for sure
yep
But as I already stated, I do feel the bows have less usage in this game compared to classic, as the spook range doesn't feel that much of a difference and isn't so relevant because of needzone-magic-magnet š
i dunno about that, i think the bows are great, but i havent really played classic
In classic from what I remember (it's been years), you spook an animal, you can track it for miles.
I just love the fact of not producing a loud bang and the challenge of sneaking close in. But I gotta learn a lot more and improve, so far as soon as I saw something high skill, I usually just took the .243 or in case of my first and only diamond so far - the .22lr (rabbit lol)
That wasn't intended, I just saw some rabbits a bit down range and got the 22 with me
Boom diamond š
Hi everybody, probably it is a recurring question, but I would like to understand how viable is an ambusher build with the lookout special (that I think has more sense in a stalker tree). I think of a tactic that involves tents close to drink areas + stands and medium-short range weapons. Someone wants to share his experience so far?
You are aware that the skill is not about tree stands or tripods or even in-game hunting stands, but purely for the lookout towers from where you explore the map?
IMO it's not viable
that's why I said that the lookout special was more interesting in a stalker perspective, giving you points to scout. I was thinking that while the ambusher plays more the waiting game, it would be useful for him to get some areas in case he wasted too much a respawn zone.
To be fair, I am doing a bit of research about the ambusher way of life, and I find different points of views but very few technical, like the value of scents or the strength of callers.
Wtf is an ambushes build, a lookout special, a stalker tree? Am I in the wrong server
Just get the good perks on both sides
Skills, not perks
@last hemlock There are two skill trees in the game, one is called Stalker the other is called Ambusher
Can someone tell me where to find Ronda Ibex
@terse lagoon they spawn in the northeastern part of the map
Thereās like 3-4 lakes specifically that they like
Does a 89-115 estimate Ronda ibex have good chances of making diamond
It says Ronda requires 126
But they require 107
The answer is still no, but I think that chart needs to be looked at
@main grotto I never use the bottom skill tree, besides like one thing. The top skill tree is the best
Flinders minimum diamond requirement also says its 126
But on the harvest screen, itās clearly stated that itās 107
Mustāve been 126 in the past
@last hemlock I think it can be debated for several things. One, if you're actually hunting form a stand, many of the stalker stuff don't really apply, and things like better callers can ge really interesting. Two, the spotting skills and being able to spot with the weapon scope instead of only the binos sound useful to me, but otherwise I kinda agree and my build is heavy on Stalker skills.
Iām gonna guess that minimum estimate is 94-120, because 89-115 was 5 points off
You have to spend lots of points to get the scope-spotting, and I think we can all agree thatās universally necessary
each of both "pure builds" would be inefficient, I think there is a consensus the best strategy highly focuses on stalker but with a few key ambusher skills
you won't kill many diamonds by waiting for them in a ground blind
A mix of both is best but I like stalker a bit more
Hunting from a stand isnāt great in cotw unless you have the zone of a max lvl
Any tips for finding red deer in cuatro colinas
I have 13 spot guide for reds there if you want to take a look š https://youtu.be/qVmoKNq53eo
Truracks red deer are looking awesome and are coming soon. To help you get that legacy diamond, here are my favorite places where to hunt red deer in Cuatro Colinas. I went and visited every single lake and the whole river in the map to get you 13 best locations! I hope these ...
Tyvm my dude
Happy hunting! š
gonna try spot 3, 0: hopefully i get lucky
For anyone interested, I did some testing for the "Ranger" Perk in the Handgun tree, on short ranges, and I'm really disappointed by it. Seems like errors add up to almost 20% on lower ranges. At 50m, I had ranges indicated between "51m-67m" up to "42m - 56m" - That's 5m difference and clearly doesn't allow a good shot with a bow. On 18m, I had indications
So very very sadly, it confirms the Meta that pretty much all Youtubers here suggest: Zeroing. We have a total of 9! active skills or perks to choose. But only 1 is really useful. Real pity.
Yup. Zeroing is pretty essential and the other perks are lame as hell
Iām familiar with there being issues with multiplayer. But Can anyone tell me why I can host MP no problem, people come and go no problem. But I canāt ever use the ājoinā option, I can only create. Sometimes Iād like to prowl someone elseās maps lol.
might have to do with port forwarding, your isp or whatever random issue with the game
Check if you are not behind NAT 3
Happened to me when I d/c'd during a storm. I now backup my game folder. I downloaded the tool to help me do it, pinned in steam forums
Im not sure if you could rename the local files and hope steam cloud downloads it?
I think that would be your only hope, but someone else might know another way
For crashes, try verifying the integrity of the game files
Right click on steam, properties, local files, Verify Integrity
That helped me when I had some issues with crashing and the caches didnt appear
well if it was 2 years, you might be able to get an old save
because they changed how saves work
and changed where they were
so you could still have your last save from the old system?
idk, you would have to google where they were
They were in the same location, one under COTW (the new location), and the old was the game spelled out or something
Yea, it kept my mission progress, and harvests and such
but I lost cash and levels
when it happened to me
and any guns I had bought
How is the Vasquez noise radius compared to the bow?
You are taking it better than I would, haha
Killing a lot of stuff and doing missions helps
I think geese are your best bet
Or buffalo
I just finished all the missions in Layton and was about 41 when I finished. The quests arent bad for the most part, but I also enjoy hunting coyotes at night, so... Some of the blind kill ones annoyed me.
Any tips on mule deer hunting on parque
8-12:30 is their drink time, and they can be found on most lakes
Mule I have good luck near the lake in Junto Al Lago, I usually set up a tripod on the East coat so I can cover the whole area. This is one of my go-to spots for Mule deer, Puma, and Buffalo. Also the lake closest to Bosque Muerto outpost, thereās an area to the north? That is full of dead trees you can see really well. I set up a tripod depending on wind and find mule deer, puma, and buffalo.
Also Depending on wind direction, I will start at one of these outposts and just make my way to the other. I see plenty of buffalo and mule deer. The coast closest to the lookout tower where the water cuts into the land is a great spot. Iāve got a couple diamond ducks here too.
@wintry basin #šļø“rules
@shrewd hare Mods discussion is banned here? What the hell?
Yea. They are not officially supported.
Ope
Any tips on turkey hunting? I bought 5 decoys and got the callers but they aint really coming, should I put em at feed zones or doesnt it matter?
Console life over here š
keep calling and be very patient, they take forever to waddle over lol
Tried to shoot a turkey with a handgun yesterday. Didn't work out. Haha
when is coyote drink time
or do they even have a drink time
theres this mission on layton thats a pain in the dick and i wanna get it over w
ping me if you have an answer im playing cotw so i wont check for a bit
Uh how do I get the .22LR pistol? I have the weapon pack so I have the rifle but I have no option to get the pistol for some reason
22LR pistol comes in weapon pack 3 i think
Iām sad
Why sad
be more happy
Feel the happy
Any idea why an animal creates such a track? Down to the map border, then east, I aborted tracking then.
- It was not spooked or fleeing, most tracks were walking, some trotting.
- The hunting pressure area was done after the track existed.
Hey, where can I find more diamond roe deer
probly nowhere
Does hitting female animals replace male animals?
Iāve had level 6 female bears.. either thatās normal or theyāve respawned to be higher ?
Hey whatās the fur colors like on Iberian wolves?
Is ogro mission specific?
Is pristine rare?
What about winter?
Is fantasma and sombra also mission specific or can they be found elsewhere?
Is grey common?
Iāve found a few egg white
Omg, the 7mm feels like cheating. Just got 3 lion from 180m distance, eeasy
No idea why they didn't spook though.
they dont spook they just get mad
Well they just walked around their area for a bit and went back to drinking. But they didn't go further than 30m
anyone know how to setup private MP or what sort of friends you have to be? Steam friends dont seem to work and IDK how you would find/join a private, Cheers
feel free to ping me
idk never had trouble with joining on steam
Join through steam right?
Just found that out, like join game. IDK why I didnt think of that
Yep.. it's buggy
Anyone know the percentage of this spawning it wasnāt a reaspawn I got Yukon today
I really want to know how rare this really is I have never seen anyone else get one
I'd say it is quite rare. I have seen Diamond-Albinos and Diamond-Melanistics. But i have never seen a Diamond-Leucistic before.
I have two Questions.
#1 How many different Fur types are there for Geese?
#2 Are there only the Missions with Allan Bradley on Silver Ridge Peaks? Or are there some with Remmi Warren and some other Guys which i can't see?
Common, grey, brown hybrid, bald leu, light grey leu and mela should be 6
I might be forgetting some tho cause im crazy tired
all of the plains bison rares have a 0.22% chance of spawning
for some reason they were a little lazy with the numbers
Thanks
Hold on
Whatās the probability of getting 5 plains bison rares in like 3 days then I wonder
@ancient stirrup #šļø“rules
@shrewd hare Alright š¤¦
i think its just luck. plains bison i seen thousands and shot lots of them i only seen one level 5 and that was a troll diamond.
plain bison rares aint that rare or dont seem that rare
diamond rare must be pretty rare that is a great trophy. congrats !
WTF, I shoot a blacktail with the .357 revolver. 2x vital hit. Bleed rate: Low and it runs off?
Weird, it passes integrity up to class 6 and can't drop a class 4 animal?
And I mean Ok not instadrop, but so it doesn't run a marathon before dropping
Yeah .357 is yucky
I donāt use handguns
I used the rhino for a while when I unlocked it, but I think I had some missions?
Iām grinding for the .454 rhino rn, looks fun
Some people really like it
I have legit been staring at this deer for 30 mins... longest resting zone ever
But first itās small steps so Iām trying to get the poly tip bullets for the .44
Or not poly tip but high pen
Yeah I think most people like the rhino with the better bullets too. Which is probably why it disappointed me a little, but I quit using it before I got them lol
Would you recommend I use to pen-favoring bullets with the .357 or just go with the low pen bullets on the .44
Uhhhhh
I guess it depends on what youāre going for?
Iām not the one to answer that lol.
Oh alright
I preferred the higher pen on the .357 oofie, but that's just me.
I wonder what animal would work best for farming pistol score
Canāt hunt geese or buffalo so my 2 best options are gone
I'm trying hare (with the .22lr DLC pistol) and jackals (with the 357) on the plateau in Vurhonga
What DLC is the .22LR pistol from again?
I thought it was weapon pack 1 but I canāt seem to find it
Just looked it up. The .44 gives you a broader range of animals to choose from with the new animal system, but I used to choose the .357 any day before they changed it.
Turtle as I posted above, I was quite surprised how bad the 357 (hollow point) was against blacktails. Lung hit only very low bleeding and ran forever
Bad not back
Wp2 comes with the .22lr rifle, but I never got the pistol, so no clue.
Is the hollow point the higher pen or expansion round? Havent messed with pistols in months
Expansion
.22 rifle? nope, I never bought the goose dlc but I still have the rifle
I think it came with wp1?
I got mixed up.
I hated the expansion rounds, IoI. They only worked for fox and roe, and other small game. The high pen rounds are decent for blacktail tho, but they weren't enough for whitetail unless you had a clear heart shot
And the pistol, with the eckers .30-06 and the .45 air rifle are in WP3
Hm.. just remembered, you might have better luck with the .45colt Oofie, unless you want to opt for the .22 pistol.
Yeah, I never got that dlc IoI I skipped all the ones that came after it even tho I'm tempted to get the m1. Still hoping for more classic weapons one day
Not if you want to pass the harvest check
Yeah, I tried geese for levelling rifles with the .22 but find it so boring, sometimes you wait forever for the next flock, one time I didn't get but single geese for over a real life hour then aborted
Ouch
If it would be like I remember classic with the mallard in the Bajou, that was awesome lol
But I find I have to wait way too long for geese for it to be fun to grind
So I find handgun levelling to be a real pain
Jackrabbits, Blacktail, Ducks, Roe deer are all pretty easy enough to level up on.
Just try neck/brain on blacktail though.
Rabbits can be a pain to even find, and then you just kill 1 and often the others don't come back
And no idea why, I seem to have some aiming/zeroing issues. On the range it's easy, zeroed to 50m, everything from 10-50m is right on the money. I do the same against a rabbit sitting still - and I hit the dirt under it.
lol the game just proved that complaining a bit mostly helps. Whitetail male with 357, single lung - all checks passed.
That was the expansion rounds, not pen
One question there, the quick kill.. is that a thing of the past and for certain missions only? Because now it's just important that you hit a vital organ with 1-2 rounds
quick kill is technically still a part of the scoring, some factor in xp and cash
but losing quick kill doesn't ruin the medal anymore which is a great improvement
rIGHT THX
Does anyone elseās āsoft feetā like not work, i tried resetting my skill tree and I still make a lot of noise when walking Iāll have one red bar, while other people with the same skill will only have while noise
White*
Hello! Tell me how to pass the quest Out of comfort zone on the map Silver Peaks
Best advice for grinding diamonds/rares? Atm I'm taking out the highest lvl males at certain need zones, but idk how far that'll get me.
@torn obsidian soft feet seems to be working fine for me, even with backpacks on. Could be a bug in your game
i see youtuberes having every single corner of their map uncovered, do they just run around uncovering everything or is there another way?
you can drive around with the atv, and using the lookout towers clears up areas
it would be cool if you got all the lookout towers of a map that the whole map uncovers
its not hard to do
ye i suppose ur right
Takes a sh*tton of time though, especially to clear up all the green question marks
eh who cares about the lore
100XP lol
Best places for herds of caribou? Doing the mission where u gotta take pics of variants
That lake right next to the outpost in crimson plains has caribou drinking
And if you arrive early enough there will be a nice side dish of bison. Got a melanistic female bison from a herd drinking at that lake
Thereās also usually some herds drinking in the swamps all around trapperās peak
One more spot that has a lot of caribou for me is the lake to the right of the lookout tower of the crimson plains on the map
MP is a gamble
Even if it does have better trophies, just know that it has way more game breaking bugs
Like you might shoot an animal but it wonāt let you claim it
I heard MP is pretty shit. Idk why this game still has so many bugs but I don't wanna shittalk the devs
It's the fancy shmancy engine probably
so for the mission in parque, yearbook photos, i took probably 200 pictures of a herd of red deer, and no notification it counted
there was blackbuck in the frame too,
need a pic of blackbuck red deer axis and mule
sometimes the photo missions are really finicky and it wants you to take photos in a very specific order
well the black buck is listed first
so maybe, but i ended up getting within 60 meters before standing up and running at the herd, blackbuck too just clicking
If the engine is the problem, reevaluate it
If it is the engine then that's quite the undertaking, especially for a purpose-made custom engine like this. Combined with the small dev team something like that would completely fuck up whatever workflow they've got going and likely delay any future projects from releasing for a few months to even past a year if the problems are bad enough. Honestly for a game as buggy as this I can only imagine what the in-code dev notes look like.
what's the best spot for red deer on val?
thanks
Np bro
I wish this game had more manpower and resources behind it to make it truly great
so the 7mm is a definite upgrade to the .270 (that was luckily free for me), right? Afterwards the 338 is the next goal I suppose? Combined with the best scope
I waited until I could get the Poly tips tho
how much of an upgrade is the 338 over the 7mm?
7mm is for animals 4-9 and 338 7-9. 7mm is more versatile but loses on the biggest animals but it can still take them down with a proper lung shot.
so the 338 is more of a competitor with the .300 than with the 7mm
if you count DLC weapons in that as well
yes
7mm is the best gun in the game and the 338 you use for the big stuff
Which makes it the best gun...
7mm is indisputably ONE OF the best guns. I personally use it over every other rifle rn. But I still think it lacks that power for those really tough animals, therefore people have the right to argue against it being the best
Itās the most versatile rifle
7mm is not very good at taking class 9 animals
Technically the bows are the most versatile
Best gun doesnāt=most powerful gun
That why I changed it to most versatile rifle
And yes the bows are the best 600 grains can go through a buffalo
Dude, just because something is powerful doesnāt make it the best lol
Well hereās this, the 7mm on its own is probably the best rifle, but for an entire loadout, you can be quite a bit more efficient at killing by having a few different guns with more narrow class of ranges. Like you can use the .300 in combination with the m1 to have better stopping power than the 7mm
I could say the 22. Is the best if something powerful doesnāt make it the best
6.5 can brain shot something from 400m
Ok?
But itās not the best
I donāt understand what youāre trying to point out here
The one time I make a decent argument it gets completely ignored š
The only thing that makes me use the 7mm is when I am hunting wildebeest
What is the best gun in your opinion
I donāt know
š¤¦āāļø
The drilling shotgun
Bruh
Fair enough
But it has terrible range
Versatility+Usability is what makes a gun the best
Thatās why the 7mm is the best
The rifle part is good till 150m
Atv is clearly the best weapon in the game. It kills you 100% every time!
Thanks Ormy for putting my super rare in there
damn I sparked a whole discussion haha
should probably refrain from asking between the Eckers and the M1 š
Eckers ftw
Neither use a bow
im first gonna go easy on myself and level rifle stuff as much as possible
M1 is good for whitetail management
I can easily kill 4 deer in a herd with the eckers due to its low recoil
True
No you can go way higher
Whitetail even?
I think red deer
Itās class 3-7
Ah so a Mosin and a 7mm/.338 would be a good combo
The 30-06 is better tho
300 30-06 243 22
Eckers>7mm>Mosin>M1>6.5>270
Or
338 30-06 243 22
I think that need to bring the 6.5 down an animal class
And the 22 up one
And buff the 22 penetration
22 is fine
In real life I use a 300 on whitetail but that doesnāt mean in game it should be classed for whitetail
Buff shotguns range
To what?
Yds or meters
Meters
A duck rework would be better than a shotgun rework
What about buckshot
I donāt know anyone that uses buckshot at 100m irl
It is bad cause I think you still need vital hit
Irl When I hunt the farthest Iāll shoot with buckshot is 50 yards on deer
I think the ammo needs a buff not the shotguns
What ammo needs a buff?
Buckshot
10 gauge slugs are good
'but in real life'
yes
Can players that join your server destroy your zones?
@pine spruce I know about need zones
Is there like an excel sheet or something with all the max weights and trophy scores?
@zealous shard if you join flinters discord it has everything for every map, thatās how I get my info. Flinters a YouTuber if you donāt know
@zealous shard There's also the one pinned in this channel.
Permitted Ammo
Class,Species,For a dark version of this sheet click this link!!!
1,Canada Goose,https://docs.google.com...
I got what I needed, thanks guys
š
Thatās flinters ^
Maybe it's shared there too but it's pinned to this channel, no need to join another server to access it. š
actually flinters is updated and organized by map, and I canāt access some of them from mobile
From experience, anyone have theories over diamonds being spawned into multiple maps, same area and all?
Nah itās map by map fs
Animals might vary but I've killed 4 diamond mallards, same lake, same spot on lake, 4 different multiplayer maps
Thatās called a hotspot
imo cotw is very Arcady
Ok, but what does that have to do with help-and-tips?
My big tip is to scan around waterholes
i'm in flinters discord and don't see anything like that
It has the same spreadsheet in cotw spreadsheets
how much skill points and how much perk points are assignable if youre at level 60?
22 each
You get a point every level, from level 2-37, it alternates between skill and perk points, with skill at 2, perk at 3, skill at 4, perk at 5, etc.
Once you hit 37, you get a point every three levels, with the next one being a perk point at 40, skill at 43, etc., to the max level cap of 60, for a grand total of 22 skill points and 22 perk points.
right, I just maxed my rifle perk tree
was curious what combination of perks I could take after this
Does anyone know of a spreadsheet that functions as a diamond checklist aswell? Dont really like these picture type ones?
wow buddy i have just the right thing for you check it out ! here is a guide on steam š
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2172501355
wow thank you wink wink this is just what ive been looking for its almost like we scripted it š
So you asked for something you made? Weird flex...
is the red dot sight still plagued with that atrocious big red dot?
Yes. But realistically you shouldnāt be taking super long shots with the red dot
is there a way to increase animal render distance? because mine seems to be stuck at about 400 m
i have no idea im having the same "problem"
No, the render distance is right around 435m and you can't change it.
I have owned the game for a while on ps4 a few months ago I bought all the DLC but havent really dived into the game yet any tips for a newcomer?
any advice for finding where an animals feed zone might be? if i have the drink and rest zones
I've found them by following their tracks, or by catching them using them with binoculars from a good vantage point. (Also caveat that I am a noob)
yea i can follow tracks, and i may end up doing that.
i just need a specific zone, from midnight to like 3
Does anyone know diamond weight estimate for lynx???
does use of the headlamp at night increase your visibility to animals?
Quick question, if I start a server and someone discovers a need zone, will it save to my local save game?
does use of the headlamp at night increase your visibility to animals?
@worldly stirrup
From what I've experienced, nope!
Any need zones discovered in mp are saved to the hosts map
Thank you :D
What happens if you shoot an infected animal then die befor you can retrieve the animal ?
I shot a bison that was infected then died right after
Infected?
Itās a mission where bison are infected with a disease and you have to harvest them to keep a healthy population
I was thinking zombie bison or something, lmao, I don't do missions normally so that's why i didn't get it
@rose sky The "infected" is just a storyline. The animals are normal and are harvestable. When you die from an attack or something, you can just walk over again and harvest it.
put it in the wrong chat, this will help
A spreadsheet in a exe file? Really? lol how dumb do you think people are.
Iāve never even found a Good One lol
lol
Lost a lvl 5 kudu on a zone with like 7 feedzones, any tips?
what are some wolf hotspots around yukon
Southwest Yukon
What bow is the best? Excluding the crossbow and the longbow? Is the recurve worth a crap even if you can aim it?
if i zero for 300m and the target is 350m how high should i aim
in other words how many meters is the space from the center dot to the one below it?
Anybody know how to fix the "theHunterCotW_F" error? I just switched over to PC and rebought the game for it. It let me play one time, then crashes on launch ever since
Try running an integrity check for the local files?
Yeap tried that, all comes back good. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times now. Same crash every time
Ive got a ticket in with support but I figured Id see if anybody else had this issue before and fixed it, or ever heard of it and had an idea
Someone suggested checking the windows event log
I took a look at it, but honestly idk how to read it
Other person said something about their Nvidia drivers, but it was 2017
@cerulean lance reset ur computer
it worked for me
Btw does anyone know if you can buy ammo is single players cause idk how to
anyone got some wild boar spots on colinas, like what areas do they feed in?
@spring gorge you can find wolves in the burned out forest too, between there and coppertop lake, just look around and follow tracks, can usually se them far off too
best map for reed canda goose
I got 4 bucks which one is the most worth it?
weapon pack 2 or 3 imo
i'd say tents because they're so useful, but more guns is just more funner
The ATV's are super useful for opening outposts
is there unlockable rifle mission on yukon?
Three hours late but I would totally say drop that 4 bucks on tents also. 4 more fast travel points for you
Tell me if this will work: A) Walk up to jackrabbit feeding spot and jackrabbits skedaddle. B) place down tall lifeguard chair and sit down. C) Wait for rabbits to come back assuming they do not look up. D) shoot rabbits
Yeah I was sure placing the stand would spook them so I just walked up standing and plopped it down. 3.5 in game hours sitting in my tennis umpire chair and no rabbits here yet, but I am sitting it out in the interests of science. Plus this is a feeding zone in a half hour. I figured I'd set the chair up well before that time
Blacktail buck gave me a clean double lung shot at 90 yards and ruined the experiment
Anyone have tips for hunting mule deer on parque? I want a diamond before I leave for basic
Is call of the wild pay to win or do you get enough money and stuff from playing the game
is there unlockable rifle mission on yukon?
@terse lagoon when you get the DLC you can get the rifle
@eager bay I donāt think there is a way to āwinā but you can get money in the game pretty quick and wonāt have any issue with getting guns or ammo. But some of the ācoolerā guns are in the DLCs
Makes sense. I just donāt want to go and spend countless hours hunting for a vary little pay or vary little rewards.
Is Layton Lake District a dlc
no
Whatās a good early game load out for Layton lake that can handle most game
I have all of the weapon packs
And tents
If I play multiplayer is there a chance my population gets swapped or reseted after a host leaves?
@simple quest 30-06 can kill everything except mallards, rabbits, and coyotes.
wtf is class 9 on layton.
nothing
moose is an 8
the gun class systems is wonky as hell. but i mean i get it, just some of the guns don't make sense
30-06 should be just as good on big game as a 7mm magnum, the 9.3x74 is larger than a .338 but holds integrity on smaller game
the .270 is a popular deer and coyote rifle. but is unsuitable for roe deer and coyte in game
that's what I was thinking, like did he not read the question above..
If I don't collect an animal I hit, will the same animal be reborn?
how can I renew the animal population?
kill and harvest the males
If I don't collect an animal I hit, will the same animal be reborn?
@upper holly yes
thanks very very very thanks
one thing I'm not sure I fully understand is the meaning of this stat - easy, very easy, minor, etc. I assume this is reflective of whether the animal might be silver, gold, diamond, but not sure I know how to interpret it exactly.
I'm guessing that at least it tells me how perceptive the animal would be of scent, sound, sight, etc.
And I assume I'm not going to find a diamond that is Very Easy
a 2 on a 5-medium scale would be a silver, a 3, would have a chance for gold, a 4 would be a gold and sometimes have a chance of diamond, and a 5 would be most likely a diamond
Ah okay that's quite helpful ty
np
on a 3 scale, a 1 would be a silver, a 2 would be a gold or diamond, and a 3 would most likely be diamond but may be gold
three point scale applicable to tier 1s?
sorry I've been playing 2 weeks still a nub. I mean ducks, turkeys, rabbits
kk. Wouldn't have thought that for even the lower class deer good to know
Is there a need zone map for CC
Need zones are different for everyone
Trying to find a wolf need zone in Colina Rota for a mission
Well I can say that wolves are mostly to the south of CC but I can't help you find a needzone
colina rota is the whole south region
well there you are
š
best option is just to walk around the lakes either early morning or late evening
pretty much before the game considers it day
or after*
how to be good at COTW: walk around lakes
Pretty much
Seems about right
Hey, i have a question what's the best dlc weapon pack?
Depends what you hunt
I spotted a wolf need zone in Colina Rota but the mission isn't registering as completed
@ember kite a lot of people like smoking barrels if youāre medium-big game oriented. Weapon pack 1 is also really good
Smoking barrels gives you the M1, Muzzloader, and something else while weapon pack 1 gives you the crossbow, recurve bow, and the .22LR rifle
@prime stirrup oh okay I'm very new to the game so
Ok
So does anyone know why my ibex zones were deleted and then replaced with mouflon zones?
I didnāt let my pressure stack or anything, itās just like the ibex left and the mouflon suddenly moved in
Iāve had the same issue with jackrabbits deleting my whitetail zones
Weapon pack 1 is by far the best, smoking barrels and pack three are tied for second imo @ember kite
@last hemlock thank you for the answer
I clicked new game thinking it will just restart the map. But it get rid of all my progress, I have spent hours in this game. How can I get it back, please @ me so I see your answer
Don't know what it is but I just can't seem to be able to sneak but stay near animals. For example, tracking and distance is my biggest issue right now. For tracking, I'm either too slow to catch up to the animal or too loud because I'm trying to catch up to the animal. For distance, when I'm trying to sneak up on something in general it'll spot me when I can't even tell where it is by sound - I've had movement sound the same for when an animal is right on me and when it's far away, so I can't really tell what sound is from what distance. Is it easy to overestimate how close I am to an animal when I hear it moving? Any general tips on this?
Sorry for the long text, but I'm really struggling with tracking and stealth in this game.
don't worry about catching up so much, the animal will likely get some where and then stop for awhile
Good rule of a thumb is when you track an animal, you want to follow them to their zone or get close enough so you can call them in. You can pretty easily walk 150-160m from an animal, crouch to 60-70m and then go prone and crawl the rest of the way. If you can hear an animal, try find a bush where you can fully hide yourself in. Preferably crawl there to avoid being seen or heard. If that's not possible, stay prone.
^^^
Oh and keep an eye on the wind. That will screw you over even if you are perfectly hidden.
And there are two speeds you can move and these go for crouch and prone too. If you "run" while crouching, you can move slight faster but it will make a bit more noise. When going through bushes you want to go slower to avoid making too much noise.
I've noticed that some animals back track to where they came from, is that the case with all animals in this game?
@shrewd hare Is there like a specific distance I'm being heard from say when I'm on 1 white bar, 2 white bar, 3 white bar for the sound meter?
Because I think that's what I'm messing up on the most.
I keep thinking im far enough but it seems I'm not.
Not sure if there are any distances for that. They will just show you how loud you are. Soft feet skill from stalker tree will help you with that.
I have a stalk bow hunt guide where I explain and show how to get close to the animals if you're interested š
Sure thatāll actually help me be honest
I canāt even get close enough with a rifle haha. But I guess thatās normal for a level 16?
I want to make guides for different styles of bowhunting and I'm gonna start with stalk hunt! How to get close to the animals, what distances to keep in mind, how this all works in practice? Let's dive in!
If you enjoyed the video, subscribe for more!
https://bit.ly/2wUFx6Y
F...
You can use the same for rifles. You just don't need to get as close š
Yeah fair, but even then Iāll be over a field and still spook š
Is there any way to tell how close an animal is by sound?
It all kinda sounds the same to me unless theyāre like a few meters infront of me
Iām using headset too idk how
If you can hear them walking, they are at least within 40 meters.
It was around 35-40m you start hearing their footsteps. Some animals are quieter.
Oh.. that kinda puts things in perspective š
Iāve been fast crouching when I hear footsteps
F
2 bars
Yea they will hear you pretty fast š
But for a beginner it's not too big of a deal really. Try spot animals from zones and by water so you get a clear view to them.
I figure most who sprint right by animals in videoās use the skill that makes them quieter?
Lol
Yea, it's one of the best skills in the game.
Probably why I scare some off a lot š
It seems like in videos people could be as close as I usually am and never scare off haha
Luckily I can get it next level so yay
if you're tracking an animal the 'walk', 'trot' or 'run' combined with the age of droppings can give you an indication of how far away the animal is, but even very old droppings could mean that the animal is just 30 meters ahead and just grazing at a need zone
so never run when tracking, always walk or crouch-sprint
if a mission requires me to down animals from a hunting stand, do hunting blinds (my own) and tripods count as well?
@idle needle the wording of the mission usually specifies hunting Stand or hunting Structure/ground blind. In my experience, tripod does not count.
so tripods might not count but hunting blinds should be synonymous with the hunting structures you can buy at the fixed spots?
No
It will specify which type you need in the mission description. Some require the ground blind, others require the tall stand
ah like that
