I just bought Silver Ridge Peaks and I want to start hunting turkeys. I got the wild turkey crowd caller and mouth caller. It says that the crowd caller has attraction strenght 55 and the mouth caller 40. Other attributes are the same. Is there any reason to use the mouth caller instead of the crowd caller or is there any other difference between them I don't see?
The same with turkey decoys where one is male and the other is female. But I guess the male decoy is to attract females and the female decoy is to attract males. Am I right?

Mouth caller is to attract them to you and crow is used to get a vocal response from the turkeys so you can check their location. Decoys shouldn't matter which you use. You get max attraction witih 5 decoys so no reason to put more than that.

I used 2 male and 3 female decoys and it worked. The turkey was more interested to the caller than the decoys tho. Need to test them more.

the noise of the rain drowns out the sound of your footsteps a bit, so you can afford to be a bit louer

All callers work on both genders. The text is just flavor text.

Does are less shy than bucks for most herd species. Bucks tend to stick closer to treelines and are less likely to walk in close to a caller.

in my experience, callers are not very useful to kill high trophy animals... unless they're alone
low level animals will always be attracted first, so either you have to kill them (and spook the good ones) or they'll make warning calls when they see you (and spook the good ones)

when it comes to herds, I try to kill the highest trophies from afar and let the others flee

So I'm stuck on the Silver Ridge mission called "Old Haunts: Photograph any animal carcass you find". I've found a few pools of blood in the ghost town but nothing else now for over an hour of walking and quading all over the town and all over the entire valley. Not looking for someone to solve the mission for me, but any tips just pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks!

Basically to solve it I had to photograph the blood splatters on the ground, even though the mission explicitly stated: "Photograph any animal carcasses you find" this poor wording led me to assume there were actual carcasses somewhere in the area and to spend a lot of time needlessly searching for them when all I had to do was find 5 different blood splatters on the ground. Additionally, I didn't even need to find the 5 different splatters of blood. I simply photographed the same splatter 5 times in a row and was able to progress to the next stage.

I really hope they fix both the wording and the actual process of this mission in future and I wrote my solution so anyone who has this problem in future can refer to it.

I cover the aiming with my latests video. Each arrow has a slightly different spot to aim and 350gr seem to be slightly broken.

700gr feels the best so far. Just use the arrows tip to aim. 540 you need to aim slight above the tip and 350gr just don't work properly with zeroing as of now.

@mortal vigil From what I've heard, the animals you killed can respawn randomly as a male or female. But from exp, theyll most likely be males if they were fairly high lvls, that may just be my game tho, idk. My advice is to keep purging the herd every couple of days until you find something you like.

Regarding the "level" of an animal, is that an overall rarity indicator? I'm not sure if i get it
Like a level 5 fallow deer is probably diamond, but red deer can go up to level 9 it seems. So if i shoot a level 5 red deer it's not diamond, but a fallow deer is while the chance of them spawning at level 5 is equal? 😄

It's not the best solution, and it might not even be a solution, but the mission where I had to grab the rock climbing gear in the new reserve was bugged for me and after I gave up and went hunting, a doe trampled me and the mission was magically fixed. So uh my suggestion is find a tall mountain and take a leap of faith.

@mortal vigil it’s not based on numbers, I don’t actually know why there are different max levels. To answer your question, no there isn’t as many lvl 5 fallows as there are reds because the numbers aren’t linked, every animal has its own rarest level (the max) and all the other levels too

@snow warren Different animals are scored in different ways. Some animals, such as bears, foxes, ducks, etc. are scored by weight; whereas others, such as deer, goat, buffalo, etc. are scored by their horns/antlers.

Generally speaking, if an animal has horns/antlers, that's what it's scored by. If it doesn't, then it's usually scored by weight (however, this can differ in the case of some animals, such as turkey; which are scored by their beard and spurs).

So I'm watching old videos and I'm seeing people insta drop animals in one shot by hitting the spine, or both lungs. I've done both of those things before but my animals ran off. Did things change from when these videos were made or am I just bad?

What gun are you using and which animals

For instance I used an M1 on a black bear and got both lungs and it ran a decent distance before dying. It wasn't far but I was expecting an insta drop from that shot.

i use the martenson 6.5 that the ammo is class 4-8 because i LOVE how i can shoot shit and super long ranges but i feel like i can't get a quick kill in most cases. i haven't really killed level 6 animals that much so it could just be bad shots. the 30-06 has the same ammo score but is it better taking down level 6 animals? i really love how to 30-06 looks so i'd be down to have that when hunting level 6 animlas

I've realized. I was only using the crossbow when I'd tripod hunt, for if I called anything on top of me. Picked up the advanced weapons pack or w.e and been playing with the new bow on SRP and it's nuts. Ride my ATV into a bison herd and kill 10+ every time with 1 arrow each lol

every animal that respawns has an rng number set for it, like a prize wheel. where it has a very low chance on landing on a rare.

Caribou are basically everywhere, except for the starting area and the wetlands.

Yeah I found diamond 'bou in the wetlands plenty of times, in the starting area too, they're just pretty uncommon. The areas I've noticed without any are the teekon and the lake south of it

yes when i first spawned in at srp there was a herd of bison right next to me so i decided to experiment, followed them prone, crouching, walking even running and they didn’t spook for a good 10 seconds

Hunting pressure

#

You have killed an animal on those spots.

#

4 overlapping pressure on the same spot will delete a need zone and animals will try to avoid the area until the pressure is cleared.

That is the spot where you have hit an animal it has died from that shot

#

4 pressure on the exact same spot will delete zones in the area. So if you kill 4 animals from the same herd in the same spot, then zone is deleted if there is any in that spot.

Also if you kill animals from a hunting tower, it will apply less hunting pressure.

So from a tower you can kill 14 animals without losing zones in the area.

I bought weapon pack 2 hoping for the drilling rifle to replace at least a couple of rifles from my loadout... until I saw that the buckshot for lower animal classes has an optimal range of 25 meters...

so I ended up not using any weapon from that pack, cause I can't figure out a loadout better, more convenient and that suits my playstyle better than my current one: 22lr, .243, .7mm, .300

and no, I won't have map-specific loadouts until ew implements a way to switch between them
