personally the birds seems to have a higher chance to get a rare one, and they also cost less money to hunt, assuming you're using the right ammo, they also come in bunch, so you can harvest them really quickly for quick cash

@edgy surge Huh? It is able to push other Players away by ATV, but I don´t think it would have any effect on downed animals. Well, I never tried that. But worth of trophy can shrink when you shot bad (trophy organ destroyed, no quick kill, whatever). And I think is is not able to move dead animals around, not by ATV, not on feet.

@dreamy dust In my opinion: Weapon Pack 2. You get the 7x65 Mosin, a 16G / 9x? Drilling (German double-barrel Shotgun with a bullet-barrel under it) and some kind of weapon class 2 (in former versions of CotW) Revolvers. The Mosin is like .243 and .270 in one rifle, the Drilling like a 7mm (but maximum 150m zeroing) and the slugs are weapon class 3, too. About the Revolvers, I think they´re class 2. Well for Blacktail, Whitetail, Fallow Deer etc., but even for Black Bears.

@neon parcel Try not to be a stalker when you first start out, save that for when you level up and can put some points into certain skills. You want to sit back and call the animals to you.
You are gonna get nowhere in the beginning "stalking" them. Find you a nice area, set up in some bushes where your visibility is good to where you can see the animals but they cant see you and call away. Do a call every minute or so, then you should be seeing some progress. Best bet is to start slow with deer then as you level go from there. That is all I got for you and GL out there.

when you get stuck in a boring or annoying one, skip and try a secondary one or go to another map
missions will give you way more xp and money than "standard" hunting itself; of course, hunt anything you have the chance to while you're at it, unless that interferes with a mission
also, what LowDown13 said: stalking correctly requires several skills, your best bet at low levels is going to a need zone, hide in the bushes or a hunting stand and using your caller
and when you down an animal, don't go harvesting immediately if other animals got spooked, use your caller and some of them may come back

usually, if the animal died, it creates a hunting pressure zone to where the last shot was(i think), so if you see a purple cloud showing up on the map after a while, that means the animal had bleed to death

maybe if you ask specific things the veterans can help you
as a very broad advice I'll tell you that this game is kinda "slow", it requires patience, and it gets easier once you level up, get skills, and learn animal behaviour
don't run, use your binoculars, use callers when you spot animals, and wait for them crouched, hidden near a tree or in the bushes
oh and layton lake maybe is an easier map than hirschfelden, lots of areas with great visibility

Hi guys, does the weight affect how loud I am or not?
+a whole different question, I started leveling the "ambusher" tree, so I have 4 points in scent tinkerer... but I have no luck what so ever. it says it lasts 5 minutes and the scent is going in wind direction... so I use the anti smell perfum on myself and the scent lure on the floor somewhere in the open. I myself meanwhile hide in one of those hunter shelter stand things and painfully wait. where am I doing something wrong?

I only killed one just minutes after starting the map, and one at 300 meters... and I think I only was able to actually see another one

they tend to run around a lot when they get spooked, so it is hard to locate them through the grass when you hear them just running around
try to locate drinking/resting need zones and just get them while they lie down at the water
they are like bigger foxes in their behaviour, just zig zagging in the bushes

i just wanted to appreciate all the help from you fellas. I have a much better understanding of the game now. A lot of help was to actually swap between maps to get a hang of the animal behaviour. for example in the dessert or in the winter map you can just watching the animals after you missed a shot (as there is no forest in the line of sight). thanks a lot you guys

I went back to Medved today to finish a mission taking down a lynx in the plateau area on the east part of the map. Wish me luck. I’m hunting one of the northern lakes during drink time. Lynx are difficult!

much of what you can read out there comes from player experimentation afaik, so maybe your best bet is experiment yourself: see if sleeping 1 hour does the trick; if not, see if once 24h pass they do spawn, etc

I think the .300 is still more reliable, over the 7mm, for like lung shots, or maybe some bad ones like liver, intestine, etc. The gun itself also holds more ammo in case you failed the shot.

I really feel that the new .50 cal cap gun should get full integrity on class 9 animals. The gun itself is great as is, the devs should just make it full integraty on class 9 too.

But technically, 7mm is better for the scoring system, cuz it's 1 gun covering a whole range of classes, but you have to literally be extremely accurate with your shots, and hope the gun is accurate
Yeah I think the armor piercing shot for the .50 cap gun should have the same class as the .45-70

yes, Its just makes load outs awkward, I like to cover all classes in my load out, and it feels out of of sorts, yes they can leave the balls as is, but make the other round viable for class 9, even increase the minum from 4 to 5 if they want to but it must be good for class 9

I think from my experience, as long as it's not "common", they counted as "rare" for Hunt Club quests
I remember doing scrub hares hunting in Vurhonga, i've got like 5, none of them are common, but all the same fur type, and it counted as 5 rare fur types

For this known issue "Issue with single-shot rifles (including the .50 caplock) where you can’t fire the gun after using shooting range" a temporary workaround is to remove the weapon from your inventory at the gun cache and move it back in again, at least until it's patched.

What's the right way to complete the mission trampfine a family picture I've taken many pics of single bears and a few of two different bears in the same pic in the right area but it's not accepting them

I just completed that mission like 2 nights ago. i "believe" i took a picture of a single black bear 2 times. different bears of course. it has to be in a certain region if thats what's messing you up. but i think it only works if your binoculars can "spot" the animal. @dreamy sand
as in the animal is close enough. i think the game doesn't count it as a photo of the bear if its like 800+ km out lol
So actually i have a question. when i'm in game and im walking my noise meter has 1 tiny red bar. how damaging is that for a hunt. like of course if i see the animal and i'm stalking it within like 200 ish meters i slow down to a crawl and very slowly walk up for a good range to shoot it. but when im just bumming around looking for animals calls and such how often should i walk and not walk. i fear that me walking around is scaring animals i haven't had the chance to see because their behind the hill a bit.
and the reason i ask that is when i watch tutorial videos i see the guy just haphazardly walking at full speed not caring. and im wondering if im being too cautious

@crude ruin Honestly, It's best to crouch walk. Keep in mind driving a quad around creates three bars of white and three bars of red and scares every animal in miles. I usually just crouch walk so i dont scare the animals off.

That's what i figured. im getting the (skill or perk i forgot) that makes it so footsteps are a little quieter. it's not much i know but still. and yeah i've gotten used to crouch walking. thank god for auto walk lol

I wondered the same thing. In my stats it says I scared 6000 animals so far (couple hours in the game). But it's like 5000 scared by noise

but I don't have the perks for stalking yet, so mostly if I just walk to follow a trail the noise-o-meter goes to 2 red bars when I come by some bushes or what not
But I need some advice myself. I have 30.000coins now. I could ether save it up for the rangemaster 338 (but I don't know if the weapon is even worth it, going mostly for deer myself). Or I could reset my skill tree and spec into stalking (I have everything in ambush as of right now and it doesn't seem to do well with my playstyle - I'm lvl 19). Or - I could invest in more tents and tripod stands - but at this point this feels like a first world problem

from my limited experience (others might give better advice), I'd say even if you're more a stalker than an ambusher (I think whatever style you fancy, stalker has overall better/more important skills anyway), you'll want to train a few ambusher skills (there's a couple of them for tracks iirc, for example), so I wouldn't bother resetting them for now, maybe in a few weeks you'll know better what exactly you want and need
as for the .338, provided you didn't buy any weapon pack, I'd recommend it, or at least, it was the 2nd weapon I bought (after the .270, which I barely use btw), cos I wanted to hunt european bison
if we consider weapon packs, then I don't know how useful it is, cos I only bought the pack 1 myself and that was for the .22
in any case, once I bought the .338 and maybe a couple more things, I realized money will hardly be a problem, it was always my character level what prevented me from buy things

But even when I was mostly Ambusher, I would still stalk right up to my targets, as I prefer to get close, and hit the animal with maximum penetration and correctly, so it drops right there and I dont have to go tracking after it. but even though I am always super quiet my scare ratio is huge towards hearing. Probably cause you take a shot even with a bow, and scare everything around for x meters depending on weapon:

it's relatively easy to overcome the smell effect by going against the wind, but there's not much you can do about noise

another thing about your respeccing to stalking: by ambushing and waiting and calling you can get many low trophy animals, but the harder ones won't fall that easy
from my limited experience, you'll have to track and chase the most valuable animals anyway

I think that is the animals level. E.g. Large antlers, heavier etc. I think you would get more points from a 6 Moose than a 5 but it also depends on how you down it.

I think you should always go for a higher number than a lower if possible but like I said, I'm in the same boat as you and don't really understand it.

Yes.
You should hit vital organs ((double) lung, heart) and use the correct weapon class and gun (you can see it in animal description on "codex -> fauna" in your Huntermate.
And it would be the best taking your target down by only one shot and this quick (former quick kill bonus).

A Quick question to see if someone else got the same issue as me.
When I do multiplayer as a host sometimes when the other player are shooting the hunting pressure goes from nothing to bright pink and I know that only ONE animal has been killed. It never happens when I play solo but as soon as I start a multiplayer it happens a few times every session. I've lost several need zones because of this issue.

I was watching some videos and people were talking about the consecutive harvest percentage too. Does that still factor into the diamond rating also? And do y’all have tips about finding diamonds or is it the kind of thing where you just have to keep playing and keeping your eyes open for them?

Consec doesnt matter, and need zones are a good place to look but luck is the biggest factor for diamonds
Just be dedicated and you’ll find diamonds eventually

Not always, theres a very slim chance for some 4’s and 2’s to make diamonds, and max difficulty by no means is a guarantee
Difficulty is a ok judgment to go by but sometimes it just doesnt matter

how do I find it? the only wolf need zones I found are Resting zones but that was only through binoculars, I can see the wolves resting but when I get there, all I see are regular tracks, they don't leave the bed tracks like other animals

@dire ice eh, my PC is overheating because of that xD I think the two best ways to disable it are: (1) running the game in windowed-fullscreen mode (instructions somewhere) because Windows/Video cards usually do not apply anti-aliasing in windowed mode, and (2) disabling it/forcing it off in drivers control panel for your video card (like the Software Radeon/Catalyst)

@frigid ember turn on your lamp (the L key by default) and it'll show tracks at night within the light's cone.
They also show up while using night vision binoculars and the rifle sigh from the High Tech weapon pack.

Need a little help with scoring/trophy rating. From what I see the final score is separate from the trophy rating. The so called "Diamond" as I have yet to get one, is based on the size of the rack correct? Now does consecutive harvest still play a role, or does this only impact cash and xp earned from the kill now?
And does harvest check have an impact on trophy rating? Say this buck could have been a diamond, but it isnt since I didnt get a clean kill or use correct weapon?
Does animal need to be at highest difficulty in order to be a diamond?
