very different, don't try to put real life knowledge into the game
Tho, the calibers seems to be somewhat accurate sometimes, like the 7.62x54r having the same stat as the .243 Winchester, but stronger in every possible way, and the .223 being one of the worse rifle cartridge in the game for big games, etc.

You either, aim for the heart or the brain, or use a penetrator to aim for double lung, you can also try to aim for a lung and a bit of the spine for the soft tip ammo
the liver or stomach doesn't really do anything, unless you're using a very powerful cartridge, the bones other than the spine in this game felt like it's there to slow down or block the shot, just like the flesh, it doesn't slow down the animal or, do anything, really

I switched to SP for the .300 a little while ago. As long as the shot placement is good and I don't hit the shoulder, it provides better results.

They do kill animals. I've found unexplained dead animals and my brother saw a lion kill a springbok.

No, it's just an issue with the way multiplayer works. If someone in a multiplayer session kills an animal and leaves the server without harvesting it, this is what other players find. An animal dead with no shots taken and the weapon they used previous to this animal.

@signal gyro No. I've seen them on single player and on servers where it's just me and a friend. None of us shot said animal. They don't kill animals often but it does happen. And like kernal said you can't pick them up.

Make sure your saves' folder in Documents isn't being protected by your anti-virus. Turning ransomeware protection on WinDefender kinda of "locks" your Documents folder, meaning it can't be tweaked or changed by applications. In other words, your saves won't update.
Another similar reason why games shouldn't be installed in UAC folders, like Program Files. Sometimes applications don't have the right privileges to add/tweak stuff, meaning saves won't be created. Lastly, make sure you're running the game as Admin, if necessary.

very simple actually
i just had to delete the avalanche studios folder in the documents (the game was closed while i did so) and when i started the game up again it created a new folder
the other folder just stopped saving the game after some time

Oh, that. When deleting the game's save folder, make sure you have Cloud Saves off because otherwise they will replace the faulty files with the ones it had stored.

Heck, I can down 2-3 ducks/geese in a row so that's at least 800-1200 per flock. Given they usually come back pretty quickly and don't mess up NZs, I'd still go for them.

It looks like whatever you did before didn't actually fix the whole issue with the saves. If you left the Cloud Saves on, chances are they replaced the files you removed with those it had stored in its servers, thus making a mess. I think you are probably better off starting clean. Turn off Cloud saves and manually backup your saves every day or so.

When I bought the duck/geese DLC they came with a bunch of free decoys for each species. If you only have one or two setups then you don't really need more unless you're trying to maximize the whole thing. I usually just put a handful of those up per place (4-6), use the caller every once in a while and that seems to do the trick. I had cases where entire flocks of geese kept showing up every 5-10 mins.

@last hemlock the whole burnt forest and the forests to the east. The lakes in that area too. If you put tents on the railway tracks over the '3 pronged lake' you can funnel them as they travel around the bays north of the lake

Hello I am having a issue were it sounds like animals are on one side of me but they are actual on the opposite side of me. For example I hear the animals on my left but actual the animal is on my right. Any help would be great and I have my speakers plugged in correctly because this is the only game it happens on. Depending where you are currently. If you own the 7mm its definitely parque. If you own the mosin (solokhn mn1890) you should pick cuatro.
Actually the .30-06 holds integrity on most animals in both reserves.

I've been playing for a few weeks, mostly in Hirschfelden, and I only have found several golds, but no diamonds

Hirsch is one of the hardest maps in the game for sure. Easiest way is to check water and if animals are drinking. If you want to spoil the exploration you can google and find animals drink times pretty easy and then just check around lakes and river during their drink time. Diamonds are supposed to be rare and harder to get, that makes them special 🙂

I'm currently stuck on Fleischer 1. I simply cannot find any red deer (at all) in the area the game needs me to find droppings. Heck even the mission of hunting a red deer near Bondorf lake doesn't have any deer there, and I've been there day and night looking for tracks for NZs.

Yes you may. I made a post with the same combined chart at the start of the beta. Someone on reddit discovered that the 7mm was different in the game than the chart displayed. He asked here and got an updated weapon class graphic. I used that to make this chart

Whenever I try to change a key bind, it reverts to what it was before. Can I have some help please?
I’m left clicking on aim mode, then clicking Q. Before, it did it properly; but now it just reverts it back to right click (or even changes it to left click).
Also, whenever I try to scroll in the settings, it scrolls wildly to the beginning or end of the list, and I can’t control it.

There's one thing I don't quite understand yet. The calibers are lot a more permissive now but that doesn't mean they are deadlier to compensate, are they? If you shoot a level 8 animal with the .44 revolver (4-8), that animal is still not going to drop as quick as you'd like, right? If you want to be efficient you should still get the caliber closest to that animals' class?

So if you want to lower your chances of animals spooking with fast travel, go prone and then travel. You will appear prone too and animals won't see you right away.
For ducks you can use the same tactic. Put blind and tent really close. Then travel prone and crawl in the blind from the tent.

If you find duck need zones it basically means ducks are in the area. They will be attracted to your decoys and land near them. If I remember right the max number of decoys was 20 for full coverage.

Goose hunting is almost the same. Put layout blind and decoys in a field and use the caller when geese fly by. They will then land and you can blast them. No need for multiple setups and fast travels unless you want to.
Max lvl for ducks is 3 and 5 for geese so if you spot any of those, you have a potential diamond 🙂

I don't think anyone has ever managed to pinpoint the exact numbers with the sound/sight icons. My best estimation is:
1 white bar = ~25m
2 white bar = ~50m
3 white bar = ~75m
1 red bar = ~100m
2 red bar = ~125m
3 red bar = ~150m
(The ATV is known to spook everything in a 300m radius, and for showing 3 red bars. I don't think a human running around makes as much noise as a quad bike, hence my estimation staying at 150m.)
Of course the difficulty of animal, their awareness and their senses are an important factor as well. When hunting a particular species it is important to know which senses they rely on the best (info is on the Codex). One with good hearing will hear you better than average. A resting one will be less attentive so the detection threshold will be slightly lower. Higher difficulties "boosts" their senses a little, make them more alert and less likely to make any kind of call.

Most, if not all, trurac animals are broken. As far as I can tell, I’ve seen every trurac species have slight or heavy brokenness. Water buffalo are probably the most broken. I know fallow deer are too, but I think it’s just a level issue. Shot a level 4 diamond tonight that obviously had a level 5 rack and weight.

I think the score/level is a bit busted at the moment. Animals that are supposed to be gold or diamonds are giving players a medal bellow that... apparently it happens a lot with water buffalo. Legendary animals aren't always diamonds but they should -at least- give you a gold medal for them.

Ground blind is basically a ground shack you use for cover. Tripod is like a tall tripod thingie with a chair on top you sit on, it's the DLC equivalent of a tower stand, but portable.

In terms of stats? None, I think. The DLC ground blinds exist mainly for ground blind missions. If the vanilla ones are in a bad spot or too far away from the animals you want, you grab one of the portable ones and plonk them in a more advantageous location. The tripods are basically the exact same thing but for hunting towers.
I think tower stands and tripods are supposed to give you a sliiiight advantage in terms of scent, since you're higher up, but there's no hard proof yet.

Forgot to mention but hunting pressure works the same way as in vanilla ground blinds or stands. Shooting animals from these gives you much weaker hunting pressure, meaning you can keep hunting on the same spot for longer.

when I first began to play I kinda liked the 'archetype' of sitting in a groundblind near a need zone and just wait for animals to come... the problem with this approach is sometimes, if you are there just before that zone's 'schedule' begins, you need to wait tooooooooooo long for animals to come; sometimes I'd rather go there in the middle of that schedule, but then they're already there and I spooke them u_u
on the other hand, when I'm stalking, I struggle to know when I'm too close to animals and should crawl, and when I'm still far away and could be chasing them like forever if I crawl

The thing with stalking is, you have to take many things into account like your visibility and wind direction. What I do is, if I want to get close, I prone for a few yards, then spot them to see how spooked they are. If they are attentive+ I usually wait until they are calm again before I start moving.
I usually don’t get too close though depending on the animal, but that’s what I do.
I got real close to a herd of resting moose because they were all laying right next the male moose I shot earlier who died there and I wanted to get a picture, but I had to get within like 10m and I wasn’t about to do that.

Like MKVI said, you can usually tell when an animal is suspicious by it's behavior. Deer usually stop, give a few steps and stop again with a leg in the air (like a pointer dog) when they think they heard something suspicious. They stand up straighter and tilt their head a little when they think they saw something or "sniff" the air (wave or wobble their head slightly) when they smell you. Other animals act slightly different to your presence, like bears standing up on two legs.
Generally, if an animal stops on their tracks or what whatever they were doing and start looking around for a while, it usually means they sensed something (not to be mistaken with their animation of just casually looking around when eating/drinking). When they go back to eating, drinking or roaming, its because they have calmed down a bit though they may still be cautious.

Is it even possible to get diamond fallow deer atm since some people are saying trurac animals are bugged? Been hunting them pretty hardcore the past 5 days or so and I got 7-8 at 227,6 or something. It almost seems they are capped there lol

A lot of the things are wrong in the game
it might be listed as "rare" but you can still go out and see multiple in a herd (little bit less common than dark)

When ever I change to windowed mode to swap monitors then change it back to fullscreen. It just reverts back to the original monitor

if you have different set ups just jump between them where you tents are you will see some will spook sometimes some wont

If you have Cloud Sync on, it will usually backup your saves (and transfer to a new installation) but I still prefer to save the old-fashioned way.

What are the drawbacks and benefits of resetting the animal population (deleting the animal_population file)?
Do animals gain levels over time and resetting lowers it back or can resetting actually spawn animals with bigger levels?

in layton there's this mission called vualez - the big coyote tour, I'm asked to kill 1 coyote from each of 6 different regions (btw, the most annoying mission I've seen so far, I HATE hunting coyotes or foxes, and I've never encountered a mission that asks me to kill more than 3 animals) with a .270
but as you know, .270 is now only for classes 4-8 and coyote is 2

hot take the zeroing perk is actually pretty useless and a waste of perk points, infact zeroing perk messes up the crossbow scope for sure and can be easily rendered moot with time at the ranges

I have a pretty in depth video about the topic. Xbow is easiest since it has decent scope but it's zeroed from the top instead of the middle like other bow sights.

yeah but the zeroing perk doesnt seem to take into consideration the various ammo weights the light weight bolts go almost 10 yards further than the moose bolts atleast thats the way it seems to me
and with practice you can get those long range shots without the zero perk freeing up 2 perk points you can use elsewhere

so I tried to take down some wolf that's coming at me after I killed one, I used the 20GA slug and aim for the head, basically 3 out of 5 all doesn't have trophy intact

Good thing is, now you don't need to worry if you get quick kill. Just use proper ammo and go for lungs. It doens't matter if the animal runs, you will get best medal.

I think you have to start near the cabin and follow the tracks from there, Conni is meant to give you updates every once in a while. If Conni hasn't said anything then it's either bugged or you're doing it wrong.
