@coarse gale i think most of the Elks and Blacktails i found are around the south of Norden, and for whitetails seems to be everywhere but the middle of Balmont might be a hot spot for them

is it the one where you need to hunt a wounded deer? it should be making warning calls near the mission area you just need to run at it and do 50% damage onto it

i'm not sure if it'll disappear if you fast travelled or leaved the game, you can try go back to original camp site to see if the deer is still there

the wounded deer only have 50% health, so you just have to do 50% damage, it's also constantly making warning call while standing still like an animal with broken AI

I don’t believe fliers exist for bullets, but unless you have the archery perk, increased confidence, then long ran he shots ~70+ m with bow and crossbow will randomly offset and may not land in the same place twice

I'm more used to short distances but there's a quest that needs at least 150m distance and most areas I've come through have foliage and trees at a distance of 100m or less and callers only have a 200m reach to begin with.

Anything I could have done better here? Be closer? Is there any way to hit both lungs with the recurve on a moose? I'm just level 6 so I don't have the extra draw strength perk yet. Would that help to get a quick kill on a moose with the recurve?

Recurve is not really strong enough for moose. Even with maxed skills I'm not getting double lung. Crouching does help with accuracy since it's more stable and easier to aim.

ok i see, heavier arrow actually gets more energy on target from the same draw weight compared to a lighter arrow, but of course it falls faster because gravity. So the 540 gr arrows of the recurve are more like a 2.5 class. Barely works for a 3, but should work better than the 420 for the larger class 2 animals? I'm looking at the ammo/scoring sheet from thegoodguys.

Moose are probably the hardest class 4 to hunt imo, Lions die very quickly, Bisons they just simply walk away while you can go ahead and do follow up shots, Grizzly are kinda similar to the other bears, Cape Buffalo is not really that difficult if you're good at close quarter, cuz they always just simply run towards you. Moose they can run kilometers with a double lung 9.3, and they run away very quickly, they also make you back track a lot as they sometimes run in circles. I hate hunting Moose, and you also can't get 100% integrity against them with the 470

@teal breach sit yourself in a need zone at night low noise - you will often attract multiple at once so what I do is use a bow for a couple before firing a gun and in your case it be the handgun. This approach has helped me balance my use of weapons out.

try do a lot of Bison hunting at Yukon, they're very easy to kill in multiple number especially with a quad bike, so you just have to buy like a hundred round and unload all onto the Bisons

the most economical way to do this is to probably get a million .243 soft tips, fire the pistol at a bison once, and kill them by unloading the .243 ammo onto the Bisons

It's fun jumping off a quad and blasting with the shotgun. It's refreshing after sitting in a tower for 60 minutes!

Shotguns have lower zeroing ranges than rifles and pistols have the same as shotguns I think. I believe (I may be wrong) that the only rifles that don’t zero up to 300m are the drilling rifle and the 470 nitro

OK, any tips on mallard hunting? I've found need zones, setup my blind and decoys, and then wait and call, but no ducks come in. I just sat through a full 15:00 - 17:30 need zone without seeing a single duck.

The only way I can find ducks, is to setup a tent near the need zone and fast travel in. That only works once though, because once I've killed them, the need zone disappears.

so i bought this game a couple months a ago but i never really gotten the hang of it. When i go searching for animals i almost never find any , and when i do i keep messing up my shots so, i would have to track the animals for 20 minutes or more. any tips would help me a long would be greatly appreciated.

dont start following just any tracks you find on the ground in hopes you'll find the animal on the other side

they might lead you to a spot where the animals like to hang out tho, so keep your binoculars out and watch if anything is hiding behind the tree line or wherever you're looking

#

also just walking around might make more noise and spook more animals than you think

#

when it comes to taking shots, make sure to shoot them in the chest from the side, hopefully getting both lungs

#

and use a weapon that's powerful enough, the .243 you start with won't drop anything bigger than a small deer unless you get a lucky heart shot

for perks? build into what you use most is a good bet, however there are perks in each tree that help with all weapons, if you are just leveling up stick to rifle for muscle memory, breath control, and zeroing, after that its rally whatever.. i like sprint and load from handguns and move and shoot from bows and fast shouldering from shotgun.. outside of that its whatever you want

You need the decoys to get them to break from the pattern and start to land. You then use the caller to get them to land closer to you.

Or you might be able to break them only with the caller but it's really small chance for success.

usually i just call the spines as in "neck", "back", "shoulder", "tail"

"neck" is always an instant dead from my experience, you can instant down a Moose with a .243 soft tip

#

"shoulder" and "back" are just vital organs, but for the "shoulder", you can sometimes do double lung and a "shoulder" for 3 vital organs, and sometimes you can hit the "shoulder" and "back" to get double spine, which is somewhat similar to double lung for me

#

I rarely go for the "tail" unless the animal is just sleeping with their ass to me, so there's no choice but to shoot the pelvis or the "tail"

#

I think you can still get 100% QK to the tail when you're using the 20GA slug against warthogs

@twilit crypt i think your shot only hits the "shoulder", since spine shots no longer guarantees a 100% QK, that shot is basically as good as a single lung

I think they did that because that's how it works irl or something? but say, you use a 12GA buckshot and hit the spine of a deer multiple times, it counts as a lot of spine shots and can basically instant down something like a Fallow Deer

I imagine that'll be hard to have consistent testing, but what i do found out is that, animals can't hear .30-06 from around 300m or 350m away, where they can sometimes hear the Mosin

cuz i hunt a lot at the same spot on Yukon, and the range is always either 300m or 400m, there's all sorts of animals over there except for Wolfs and Red Fox

from where i'm standing to that need zone, you get Bears from the right hand side, Bison on the far left, and Moose, Caribou right at the need zone, then the ducks are just everywhere at the waters, it's very consistent

the ducks actually can't hear the gunshots and will not react at all even when another duck died beside them, but when i tried to shoot the ducks on another place, i missed, and they all start to fly away

Guess I will just have to test, I found a good duck spot but there are also alot of moose, deer, and elk in the area. I usually avoid shooting the ducks there but wondered if I use something small if I could get away with it.

I think the .410 is significantly weaker than the 12GA birdshot, I can't get 100% QK with Red Fox and Goose with the .410 shotgun

yeah, I've been using the .410/.45colt handgun to hunt ducks. It seems about as good as the 20 guage and I get alot of points for my handgun score racked up. I was thinking of the 12 guage pump but wondering if it would really make a difference.

@twilit crypt make sure you look at the other perk categories some of them have stuff that pertains to all weapons, like archery has less wobble aiming while running for all weapons. Hangun perks has one where you can estimate range while ADS with any weapon, no more need for rangefinder.

Just wanted to post a tip by the way, I shoot alot of ducks once they fly out of shotgun range with a .22. Sometimes they get out in the 150m+ range. I hit esc before stopping ADS and mark a way point on the map straight out in front of me 200m. It makes it way easier to find ducks since they don't leave tracks.

Has the night vision been updated to have a power-button functionality?
Just read a steam review in October stating it cannot be turned off which means it's useless during the daytime - requiring extra gear to be carried or constant switching.

it's balanced in such a way, so that you must use the normal bino when it's day time, if you don't have the best bino in the game, you'll have to grind for it, you can't just buy the night vision bino and turn the night vision off

or i guess, they can implement that, but the night vision scope is like, 3.5 weight

but then now, it's pointless to use it, cuz no one is gonna use it for night hunting anymore, it's too heavy

the 3 pin bow sight confuses me. I don't have zeroing (and probably won't get it) but the top green pin doesn't seem to be correct for any range. I'm using CB-70 with both increased draw perks so maybe that's why? My arrows just flight level enough now that there's never a need to aim lower at closer ranges?

it's as if the yellow middle pin or the 3-pin sight is the tip of the single pin (position A). see picture:

and putting the rid pin on a 100 meter target still hits the dirt. I don't have parque fernando to better test various ranges. I've been using the door and walls of the shooting range to test 25m and less shots.

You get a point every level, from level 2-36, it alternates between skill and perk points, with skill at 2, perk at 3, skill at 4, perk at 5, etc.

Once you hit 36, you get a point every three levels, with the next one being a skill point at 39, perk at 42, etc., to the max level cap of 60, for a grand total of 22 skill points and 22 perk points.

@twilit crypt The 5 pin is really useful if you dont have the range finding sight. The middle pin is your zero so then set your zero to 40 which is what its set to without zero and the bottom pin is 0-10 meters next one up is 20m middle is 40 next one up is 60 and top one is 80

Expansion causes a larger bleed, penetration ammo relies on hitting multiple organs, so you need to be more accurate since you need to hit more organs, but the angles that you can shoot from are different, it is more open horizontally since you can shoot through more fat and muscle and sometimes bones, expansion ammo only needs one organ, so you have different possible angles, more open vertically and from the back.

You should use whichever is useful on the situation, gun and animal.

Let them find you. I usually have some encounters in the North East of the map quite easily. They usually rest on the hill in that part of the map and in the low lands to the North East of it in the morning to noon time.

When I go hunt Ibex at those lakes, mostly the one most close to the hill, I often come across them or they get stirred up by me shooting the Ibex and will come for me.

Why not just disable Steam sync, and copy the files in

"C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Avalanche Studios\COTW\Saves\STEAMID#\slots\2"

and paste them in

"C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Avalanche Studios\COTW\Saves\STEAMID#

How to disable Steam Cloud Sync.

For me Penetration is better, and for Gemsbok the 300. is good at pretty much every range. If you don't have the 300. You can use the 338. it works just as well.

Solokhin doesn't and never will work for foxes. Currently the .223 is the biggest rifle. After scoring 2.0 you can use the .243 and 30 30
