What I did was just observe him and mark his location on the map. I put the tent super close but no on top of him. Make sure the tent opening faces where he spawns so as soon as you load in his right in your face lol

There is Matts multimount in the menu when you are in the lodge. There you can assemble them. You can then place them on platfrom written on it. example: bread winner needs massive platform.

The 338 is a little bit stronger but the 300 is good against bison and buffalo since theres a easy follow up but that follow up is useless on moose, elk since they cant be shot more than once so then the 338 is better on them since you get a slightly stronger punch to get double lung on moose

Not trying to be rude, but why does the size of the pellet matter...? Yeah a 12G would have a bigger pellet size than a 20G, but the size/diameter difference of a 12G pellet versus a 20G pellet is probably only a few tenths bigger.

It's the weapon class. A 12G slug and the slugs for the "Drilling" are weapon class 3, but 20G slugs are only weapon class 2. So, according to integrity bonus in CotW, you would not get integrity on a fallow deer if you shot with 12G slugs. In the game, it is like the difference between a .243 and a 7mm.

the size of the pellets is also a key difference. IRL it doesnt matter how many pellets are in a 20GA shell, if the pellets arent big enough to penetrate the animals flesh and hit the organs

I use my 12GA steel buckshot to hunt beavers but I wouldnt use my 20GA simply because they wouldnt get through all that fatty flesh

Having issues with the second Mr Black mission, I have covered the entire search area many many times, set up tents in the hotspots as suggested by other people and he just will not spawn anywhere. I have seen many people struggle with this mission recently so I just want to know if anyone has managed to complete it in the past two weeks, as that's roughly when all the complaints about that mission started (from my Googling)

@edgy surge try to shoot center of mass with buckshot on blacktail (try to go for lung or lung&liver) with 12GA at <30mts you can reliably get 100% quick kill, if it's bigger than mule deer, like red deer, elk or moose, don't bother with buckshot, you'll need slugs.

It doesn't penetrate much, it gets really inconsistent when the animal is not ~90° relative to you, I wouldn't expect to hit any vital that is behind a good chunk of meat, (that's why you go for the softer part of the animal)

im not saying that im saying in classic the guns were much more powerful. but the animals were more difficult

but a .243 in real life is lethal to a whitetail at 150m softpoint and penetrator but it would be a bit op if the game had realistic gun stats. Also if the game was realistic youd almost never get 100% quick kill. Ive heard stories of deer running 500 yards with slugs desintegrating their heart.

thanks. I'm a new player and just did the tripod/treestand dlc pack last night. if I exit the map while a tripod is up, will it go back into my inventory or does it stay on the map? and if it says on the map, can I just throw up as many tripods/treestands as I want?

Items placed on the map stay on the map, unless you are in a Multiplayer session and not the host. In that case, they will be returned to your inventory when you leave the session.

As far as how many:

Per map limit

Tents - 16
Waterfowl blinds - 16
Layout blinds - 16
Tree stands - 32
Tripods - 32

Decoys are 200 per map.

20 decoys in a spread will give maximum effectiveness.

great info, thanks. so really since I'm not overflowing with in-game funds, it doesn't make any sense to pay for building the structures. if I want to have a stand in that spot, I can just sit a tripod right next to it.

Im from South-Africa and the vitals sit a bit more to the front but I know in America the vitals are a bit back so when hunting vurhonga I shoot them on the shoulder instant heart shot(when I say on the shoulder I mean follow their front leg up and in the middel of its body)and when shooting in layton or somewhere else I shoot about half a inch back

how does penetration actually affects the damage dealt to the animal? it feels like 20GA buckshot is literally more effective on Elk or Wild Boar compared to 9.3x74R, like, at close range, 3 or more pellets can hit the lungs and some of them near miss the heart or something, it feels like if i were to be lucky, i could get heart shots at close range with the shotgun compared to normal rifles

If you are having any funky settings issues i.e Blue screen etc. Some people settings have been all been moved to "off". This includes FOV and mouse sensitivty. So go through all your settings and check the settings to make sure they all look ok. The Blue screen is caused by FOV being set to zero.

I think spine shots can still do a lot of damage, sometimes i do 60% with a single pellet from a 20GA to an Elk

Spine was split into two organs, spinal cord and vertebrae. Spinal cord still drops animals instantly but it's a really small target to hit and vertebrae is on top of the cord but it only does none-vital hit now, making you lose a lot of quick kill. Neck shots also drop animals instantly and are not too bad to hit, especially from front and behind but broad side double lung is your best bet to get full score. Big target and easy to hit with the right weapon. Some animals even straight drop with it. Heart shots are also instant drops and really reliable if you can consistently hit it. Hope this helps 🙂

Forgive me if you have, but have you actually made sure it's active? You have to activate it manually. It won't do it just by unlocking like the rest.

I believe that's how it works for all of the green ones. For example, here I'd be activating a different perk (I currently have zeroing active).

@last hemlock once you level up to the 7mm rifle (or buy DLC with the .30-06) or a bow, shoot red deer or elk, male or female. If you have a tripod, so much the better. You will usually get over 1000 per animal. Red deer females are pretty easy to call in. Of course blacktail and whitetail females are plentiful and pay pretty well themselves, and are easy to call.

@teal breach I'm guessing the Elk are the biggest animal that you can reliably single lung 100% on. Sometimes for animals like Fallow Deer, at 150m you can still single lung 100% even if you hit the scapula

the Mosin is very strong, you can literally 100% a trivial roe deer by almost missing the leg and hit the flesh ~~0% quick kill tho~~

@stuck cape If you're suffering the same bug that I am then no, and after two support tickets "the team is aware of the issue and fixing it." Though it's been 2 months so I doubt it's high enough on their priority list. When you re-discover a lookout point, outpost, etc and then quit and reload the game, is it gone again next session? If so, I'm surviving using tents. Lots and lots of tents.

I have a more technical issue than a gameplay issue.

For a while now, the game gave me an error shortly after launching and loading into a map. Usually this would occur in the form of a freeze while bunch of random things in the scenery gained an outline in the selected 'active' colour. Then black screen while the graphics card recovers. Here's the error message.

Now the question I have is related. The way for this not to occur was lowering the graphics settings. Except now I can't seem to find blood trails after a hit anymore. And sometimes the prints don't show up either. Is that something I can try to change in the graphics settings to fix that or is it a different kind of bug altogether?

Well, a couple months back it didn't do this. It ran fine on any settings.

i feel like some ammo can almost neglect hitting vital organs because the ammo is really big and you can hit anything even if it's near misses

If you look on the tool tips for all ammo, including arrows, they’ll indicate effective range, which tells how far they’ll maintain their penetration and expansion values

#

In general you can use this to predict how bad bullet drop will effect that ammunition type. For example, most rifle rounds have an effective range of 150m, so you can expect bullet drop to really impact past 200m

#

On the other hand, arrows have an effective range of about 30m or so, thus you can say past 40m there will be significant drop. Of course, you can test all of this at the Hirschfelden range for guns and Parque for bows

#

The “zeroing” perk for rifles completely changes bullet drop behavior, but effective range is still maintained

yeah, i understand the effective range thing, i think it's pretty straight forward, but what i don't know is how the values are based on, like, i used to think the expansion value is like a multiplier for when the ammo hits something, so bigger projectile expands better than a smaller projectile, but then it felt more like a damage value on other games like, how much hitpoint it take away from the animal's vitals etc. The penetration is pretty straight forward, i think, but then again, it doesn't seem like a low penetration ammo can't penetrate the flesh of the animal or anything, other than bones, and the branches felt like they can block everything even like 600gr bolts

also the accuracy and hipshot for the guns, i'm assuming it's the same, but one's ADS, one's hipshot, but i think the guns usually hit directly at the center even tho they have lower accuracy or something? I guess sometimes the wind blows the lighter ammo like airgun ammo away and less effective on normal rifle ammo or heavier arrows, but idk.

Yeah if using soft points for the right class, a single lung shot usually 100% quick kills

You get higher bleed rate and usually just drops the animal with a single lung if you have the appropiate gun, roe deer just drops with the air gun for example. So it also does higher initial damage. I use penetration rounds when i'm 'undergunned' else I don't bother since it makes me rush shots.

When confronting them, back up and don't turn your back on them. They try to circle you and get you from side and behind. Kill the biggest one first and others might flee. Good luck! also bow with 420gr arrows is super effective!

I normally do white and pink. Anyways higher draw weight bow is generally better, since you’re using the same arrows regardless. Might as well have more power behind them

You have to use the proper weapon cailbre on the appropraite species

If you use a weapon thats too strong for a particular animal, youll essentially "destroy" it and lose the integrity

if you shoot a diamond max level with to high off a gun it will take Integrity off it Typically 100% but some weapons are different That equals to 250 points at 0% Meaning a

e.g) a 1000 Diamond moose if you shoot it twice it with the 338 it would go to 750 scoring silver

this one just shows the max/recommended weapon You can shoot animals with lower tier weapons but you may lose quick kill what will also affect diamond score^
