@spare oasis normally in a game I’d be after max field of view especially on 4K but I feel like using 50 in this game narrows the focus and makes details like grass and reeds pop more. I noticed at 90 there is almost like a bugged eyed perspective. I think the zoomed perspective of 50 is better for identifying animals quicker too. I just wonder how this is set for PC if it is the same experience

I agree, everything does look better closer up, especially when walking through trees. I get a sense of realism because you can look up more with them towering over you.

I often wonder if this is the case. I used the zeroing skill for a couple days, realized I'd have to start over with learning how to shoot, then switched to a different skill without changing back to the default zero. I was missing shots like crazy after that. I don't know if it kept the long range zero or if my couple days trying to adjust to the zeroing changes threw me off.

@mild oar that’s why it would be nice to have to go through a shooting and hunting tutorial to obtain licenses and tags. An instructor at the shooting range to start the game which grants you a short term tag for a certain gender and species of deer would have been a good opening mission for this game, seems realistic and logical.... good luck

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but just started up my game to check my lodge and a message came up saying " Conflict between Cloud storage and offline save data. Please choose which save data you would like to keep" I have NO IDEA what to do. Anyone know? Never had this before and I'm freaking out because I don't want to pick the wrong thing.

@karmic helm hi Nedbella, it sounds to me that your game failed to upload the save data during your previous gaming session for whatever reason. Based on that alone, I would go with the offline save data as it's probably newer. Might be worth your while opening up a support ticket to EW and going from there beforehand.

I got a question regarding need zones.

People recommend not culling the entire population of a single need zone, but I don't see why not? If you get the need zone's population down to just one animal, wouldn't it be beneficial to simply kill off the remaining animal?

More specifically, how do they work? If the zone population is down to just a single animal, will it repopulate? Or will just a single animal remain in that need zone indefinitely?

My question is, if the population for the need zone only consists of an animal or two, wouldn't it be the same two animals that are in the area every time I go to it? Hey!

I've had this issue for over a month now and haven't found a working fix anywhere.
I can't place duck decoys, I just get a message saying that I can't place any more items of that type.
The thing is, I have no decoys down on ANY of the maps. Some people said that a simple restart would fix it, it didn't. I tried verifying the game files via steam, updating my GPU drivers, updating the game as updates came out and even reinstalling the game. None of these solutions have fixed the issue.
Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks!

It gives you the trajectory of the arrow and how you can adjust for it. It makes you able to retrieve your arrows you missed (cause now it is seeking for a needle in a haystack. This is great for long range shooting and training it. it makes you understand how the arrow works and what effect the environment has on it. You can see what way the animal travels due to the light it gives off which makes tracking easier.

Ok I have had this problem for a while on pc and pretty much just gave up but I also got the game on x box to play with friends and this flickering glitch is happening, I’m sure most people on here know what I am talking about. When you join a multiplayer session with a friend and there character starts flickering as well as there model appears inside my characters body. Please is there any fix for this? It happened as soon as we bought the safari outfits. Honestly it’s ruining the game and we put aside today to play so any quick response or fix is appreciated, thank you guys!

Some places are better than others....along the river during the morning is a hotspot for just about everything. Set up a tripod or hop in a stand around 0500 and start calling. They typically don't come directly to a call, instead choosing to circle around (as real coyotes do). They also don't make much noise once they're "on the stalk"...so don't expect them to yelp much once you hit the caller

That's why I recommend an elevated position and binoculars. Makes them easier to spot in the grass.

Is duck hunting still a good way to make money and level up? I watched some videos with people hunting loads of ducks, but I've never seen a group more than 5 ducks and it takes a long time for a small group to arrive at the lake

No I don't think that's normal, but I mostly seem to get new ducks when I change the time. For me it doesn't work like goose, just waiting and they'll come.

Morning everyone, has anyone tried out starting with a save from 0 on a new map ? would that be hard ? since you will have the starting gear and everything ? I just moved from ps4 pro to PC, and I wish to start over from Yukon. But I never started from 0 on a DLC, always had past content.

it doesn't really matter, if you have DLC then you have pretty much everything you need, if you don't then i'd go for layton because there are more animals for .243 and .270

#

but yukon is also nice for the beginning because caribou are really easy to hunt but you need a higher caliber

If you have all weapon packs then mosin and 30-06 are free but bullets cost. You can effectively kill couple animals and use those. Fernando would prob. be best map to start with weapon packs since that map is filled with animals and mosin & 30-06 crushes all the animals there nicely. Easy exp and money.

Went on Yukon, I am struggling, but still its better than playing on the other maps again, just because I played them wayyyy to much on the PS4, before switching for good to PC this weekend. Go around waters. Animals are easier to spot when they are drinking and a lot of times they are also resting and feeding around waters. Check Flinters newest video about need zones. He covers that nicely on that one 🙂

Need zones are areas where animals fulfill their basic needs (food, water, rest). Each zone's active time depends on species. Camping need zones during the active time is probably the easiest way to find animals.

It seems like each animal species has their own vision range

And maybe their own listening range as well

Based on tests, I guess this is a good overall effective animal detection range. This should cover most, if not all species you hunt.
• prone, slow crawl: 10m
• prone, fast crawl: 25m
• crouched, slow walk: 25m
• crouched, fast walk: 30m
• standing up, still: 50m
• walking: 50m
• running: 100m

being 10m/25m/50m a good quick rule of thumb.
This considers you carry no backpacks whatsoever. Walking on tall grass will level up the noise meter by one (e.g. 50m will become 100m).
Conditions like rain and/or abscence of the Soft Feet skill may alter these results for better or worse. Animal levels and alert statuses will also vary these numbers (alerted animals have sharper senses).

I'd be glad to know your experience with these numbers.

@stuck shadow you are accurate with the findings however animal lvl has something to do with the range detection as well also some animals are good at detecting different things such as red deer having amazing eyesight and scent , and the boar have shitty eye sight but really good scent , predators in general will have better eyesight . there's more variables then most ppl think in this game

I think it's more about it being a clean view with no trees, bushes, rocks etc. between you and the animal. One handy trick is that if you can spot the animal, most like the view is clear enough to be accepted by the mission.

I would personally recommend the .30-06 over the 7mm simply for the ammo capacity, if you have it. If not, the 7mm will work, just watch out for wolves

Yeah, the 30-06 is the prized possession of Weapon Pack 3. The air rifle is just worthless imo, unless you’re into a BB gun type of rifle. The .22 pistol is okay, good alt for the .22 LR if you don’t have space for it.

To complete the Mr Black mission, I think first you must spot him with Binoculars or rangefinder, the guy then says "yeah that's him", Mr Black is "9 Legendary" then you need to get real close so you can take a photo of him that fills quite a bit of the frame. Don't shoot Mr Black though. "P" button for camera for any that are unaware. 😉 If after taking a photo the guy doesn't say you got the picture then you need to get more of the bear in the frame or zoom more.

I recommend crawling to him as close as possible then come running at him with camera taking shots till missions done. This works for every "take a pic" mission. It saved me a lot of time and patience

Earlier I shot a Mythical Wolf, i believe I shot him in the right lung. It wasnt an instant kill, he stood still for about 5 seconds and fell over dead. I received a gold star rating, I don't remember what the score was. I went to place him in my Trophy Lodge, but he was only listed as Common. Is that because he didn't die instantly?

Hello I struggle to maintain a solid 60 FPS on The Hunter COTW (please no one make fun of me😅) I have a gtx 1050 and a intel core i5 I know the game needs A BEAST of a pc and I know that. I have set launch codes (on steam of course) and looked all over the net if anyone has tips or can help me that would be awesome (I’m also ok with a solid 50 FPS as well 😀) and to be honest I don’t need 60 FPS I just want it too be smooth and playable LOL thank you if anyone has suggestions or can help.

the lake in the middle right of rotwald has a big herd of about 30 red deer that have a rest zone i've been scouting, got the male up to mythical at one point but haven't seen him in over a day

Blackbuck and Axis deer go down easily with the .243, while red deer, puma and muleys go down with the 7mm

#

and If you use above weapons for the mentioned animals, it should be 100% integrity with one shot.

Ducks and Buffalo are going to be issues however. But if you complete the Parque shooting challenges, you get the .338 rifle for free which should be able to take out Buffalo

Yep we did Parque for a solid 3 ish hours, it was enough to go from new 7mm to unlocking the .338. Unfortunately he doesn't own the DLC's only I do, so he can't do the shooting challenges for the .338 but we're saving up to get him the cash to buy one now. Thanks both of you for your help, Parque was a good suggestion. 👌

Omg I don't understand how you're supposed to track diamonds. I have 500 hours played, no diamonds. We found a diamond weight axis deer and tracked it for 2 hours through it's 12+ herd footprints, called in the herd at least 5 times and he never showed. Finally lost the trail when he doubled back on his steps. Now I'm playing solo, find a diamond weight blackbuck trail. Chased him (walking) for freaking forever. He never once "ran" he never once stopped, never called me, I called him the whole time but his trail never turned towards me. His trail was always "just now" even sometimes I sprinted for a bit just to catch up to him. Never saw him in the distance. Once I got frustrated and sprinted he finally spooked and decided to run towards me. Followed him further, took a shot I shouldn't have because I was so frustrated. He died from a flesh wound and I still have 0 diamonds. He never once went to a damn need zone, I dont understand how you're supposed to track diamond animals when they trot faster then you walk, never stop to eat or drink, never respond to calls. Meanwhile husband sees a level 5 moose while we're hunting and takes a god damn shot with his 243 and of course butchers the thing, and find he would have been a diamond moose. He stumbles upon diamond animals and ruins them and I can't get one after hours upon hours of tracking. Someone please give me some advice lol.

Sure if I find a need zone with a herd and there's a level 5 in it I can assume he'll come back, but this guy I chased so far and he never went to a need zone. Do you keep following it for X hours until it gets to a need zone and then wait for it to return? is that the only way?

If I find a diamond track and find poop which says "just now", i setup a stand or hide in a bush and start calling if wind is good. More often than not they do come in but it takes usually quite some time. You can also back track the animal to it's previous zone and catch it there later.

That was kind of what happened to me, Ormy. I loaded in the game, found a track like 2 feet away. Checked it, saw the weight and immediately started following it. I literally called every two or three tracks I found, and for much of it I was crouch walking while calling and checking out the treeline. You can see in my image above that there is a large gap where I saw no tracks and that's because it was a field-ish area, I had spotted the deer in the distance very faintly and so I sat down to call him in. I waited at least 15 minutes, and when I went to continue following his trail it was still a very clear -> - > - > and not once did the animal's tracks turn towards me like I sometimes see when they're watching me or planning to come in.

if I were to back track to a previous zone, how long do people typically wait for it to return? Is it a guarantee? Like if I find a need zone 0:00-5:00 will it be there every day at 0:00? Or maybe every second or third? Is it sufficient to drop a tent nearby and just change time to 0:00, wait it out till 5:00, then go back to tent and rewind to 0:00 again? Or do people stand there for IRL 8+ hours waiting for the thing to show back up?

Animals return to need zones every day during that time frame. It might take them some time to get to the zone but you will find them around there for sure.

So how does that work for time changing? It's a question I've always had. I dont think i've ever spawned in / fast traveled and found an animal super close. I dont know where I got the idea, but I was under the impression that there is a radius or something where if you change the time, nothing will be around you in a 100m radius but they can walk in? Otherwise what's preventing me from putting a tent on the shore of a popular lake facing the opposing shore and changing the time hour by hour until I find an animal on the opposing shore?

If I remember right, if you rest in a tent on a need zone, the animals will be spawned just outside of render distance or just a bit further away and they will then walk to the need zone. In this case it takes them a bit longer to get to the zone. But this could be totally wrong too! I usually place a tent on a zone, travel to a lodge or other tent and rest there and then fast travel back to the tent. This way I've always had animals pretty close already. Just remember to lie down before fast travelling so animals won't spook right away 🙂

Any tips for lots of mallards? I've got decoys, blinds, and tents set up along the river but cant seem to get any to come in anywhere. Keep seeing they're supposed to work like geese but I get geese in decently. Cant seem to get any mallards

The ducks spawn on the decoys instead of breaking and flying down like geese do iirc

They do spawn on decoys but you can also call them in onto the decoys.

Yeah sometimes I can go to a spot and not get any action but usually if I've got decoys out and I'm in a blind then I can sit there and call them in about 2 or 3 times before I move somewhere else.

Try the lakes. I find for me that the lake in the bottom left with the outpost usually has loads of mallards. That's where I got my 1000 diamond.

Set up decoys at that lake SW, 10 minutes later went back to the outpost and got my first diamond as a mallard. Cheers!

Yes. Be patient. Take your time. Play through the game's mission system. Watch some guides on youtube for stalking tips. There is no such thing as "a bad gun" there is only poor shot placement and the wrong ammo for the kind of thing you point it at. Back up your save file frequently. Try new weapons at the shooting range in south-east Hirschfelden to get used to the drop and accuracy of them - it won't cost ammo when you're at the firing step.

Soft points are fine if you hit the lungs side-on, but they lack the penetration to hit vitals from the front or if you hit a shoulder.

It's okay, yes. But if you see or hear animals, crouch and slow down until you see them. Avoid blundering through the bushes and trees unless you're crawling prone, or until you have the perks which reduce your sound when doing so.

@little totem .243 really only works for coyote, whitetail and blacktail there. Razorback I believe is for roughly the same size range? Shotgun should work for mallards

Once you learn what each color means its easy to find it, but I also made it so i know where everything is

Yeah I know but when people have a animal in front of them they just want a quick reference to check for integrity and the simplest way to do that is to sort the animals by reserve.

Glass often, carry calls, crouch or go prone if you hear warning calls, etc

Just go out for a stroll

I've found 100% of my diamonds and golds just wandering around rather than sitting in one spot.
