I am pretty sure those 12 kills can come from a tree stand or tripod as well. I've seen bright pink areas really lighten up considerably after some hunting from a tripod (located elsewhere) and killing 10-12 animals.

I have a problem with a mission in Yukon Valley (i play on ps4 my pc can't handle it yet but i am working on it). The mission is a mine of information and i can't get further in the mission i have searched all over the area. Can someone plz help me

I'm having a huge performance issue with thehunter and its interaction with discord. I am running the game at 1440p, and have changed my settings all around from minimum to maximum, and every setting level has the same problem: If I'm in a discord call, I randomly get disconnected and I have to tab out to get reconnected.
My specs are: i5-8600K@5.0GHz, Vega 64, 16GB RAM
I can run the game at 1440p minimum settings getting around 240fps, which obviously uses my whole system since the frames are uncapped, but even capping the framerate at 144 I still get constantly disconnected from discord calls. It's impossible to stay in a call more than 5 minutes without having to tab out.

not sure how accurate it is, but as a tip, if there's a body of water, try going to any err.. rocky (?) bits, like mud/rocks instead of grass? usually at the end of those little river bits (you can see on the south and west river banks) those rocky places have been total hotspots for me
just kind of sit around those spots and call them in if you can't see anything immediately, i usually can though, especially (as Drabon said) around the recovering burnt forest bits

I just want to reset money levels and quests to make game more entertaining. Ive already done EVERY quest in old maps and im short with just few more quests of Yukon. No more challenges left. Don't quote me on this but I believe animal population 5 in the new files is your lodge (that's what I've been backing up at least) - also turn off the HUD and all icons and tracks and hunt like that. It's insanely more difficult

289 hours in and level 36, iam now pretty neat at using stalker as a main tree (started with it because many suggested it), but in the hunter classic i mainly used a ambusher style, laying scent traps to lure herds of animals in...and now iam asking my self, should i respec and try scent luring and hunting in call of the wild (the tree stand dlc seams made for that purpose) or is it still as lacking as it was when call of the wild came out?

I'm personally not sure why the first few skills in the Ambusher style tree are scent related when you need to unlock scents for almost everything late game and start more with callers rather than scent (at least from my experience) - so it's probably made to respec into later when you have access to the scent lures... there aren't even that many scents in the first place. Now, mind you, at 36 the only one you didn't unlock is blacktail deer scent, so that's not an issue. I'd say if you're happy with the available selection go for it. You can always respec it again if you don't like it.

Crossbows use bow skills. there are some weapon skill trees which cross over to other weapons, like reduced aim wobble on aiming working for other weapons than the one in the tree you find it.
I enjoy bows because they don't spook game as badly as firearms.
and their penetration is insane.

I've shot a female moose in the medved taiga national park behind one of those really high really dense bushes without even seeing it and it didn't trigger so... what even counts as barely visible?

the don't heal. They can stop bleeding out and remain at low health if the animal is large enough and the wound non-serious, but they won't regain health. The only way to prevent that is to hit a vital organ like lungs, stomach, heart, liver, intestines. Flesh wounds are never reliably fatal.

I recently reset my pc and installed COTW but before i reset i copied my save. When i launched the game i couldn't click continue, i could only make a new game. I went to the save folder and my save was already there. I replaced since it was working but when i went into the game i still couldnt load the save. Am i doing something wrong or have i genuinely lost my save?

I carry the 70lb bearclaw bow with all three weights of arrows. The Sohokin MN 7.62 rifle, and a third weapon depending on which mission I'm doing should it have a specific weapon requirement. I like the versatility of the bow and the wide range of animals the MN can bring down with full integrity.

It removes needs zones, meaning animals are less likely to be drawn toward the area and will wander elsewhere. I'd relocate and hunt somewhere else: Every twelve kills removes one patch of hunting pressure, making cleaning them up a slow process.

" the easiest and best shot you can take at an animal (any animal) is at the area sometimes referred to as "the boiler room":
Shooting at this area, a little bit above and behind the animal's front leg, will ensure that you hit something important one way or another. This will make the animal drop pretty quickly and as you can imagine that's better for everyone involved. Keep in mind there is an argument NOT to go for the boiler room if you are shooting from the front, with the animal facing you, because there's a lot of meat and bone in the way of the important bits and your bullets will not always reach. A side shot will always be the safest bet.
Once you have more experience with your weapon, you can also try neck and spine shots. IRL I think a fair amount of people would say that this is a terrible idea but in COTW these are pretty much instant death shots and a good way to tackle both bigger animals as well as animals that might be facing your direction when you take the shot. As mentioned before though, these are more risky shots.

Essentially if you shoot with a gun too powerful for your prey, you get a lower integrity score

When you score a trophy, integrity is a 100% or 0% bonus that indicates you either shot an animal with a fitting/underpowered gun (ammo's description includes a little icon roughly indicating which animal it is good for) or that you blew it and brought a gun that's way too powerful for whatever it is you are hunting. As a novice you don't really have to worry about this too much and in fact the rifle you get at the start can kill most anything with a good shot (like a really good shot if you are hunting anything bigger than a red deer) but as you try and get better scores or just want to make your life easier, this becomes more important.

Solokhin iron sights are a little bit high, so the impact is lower than the point of aim, just FYI.
You can also mount the pistol red dot sight on the .300 Win Mag

The reflex I like thatās how the glass on the red raptor should be reflex also goes on the strecker 20g as well which helps for a duck role or slugs against large animals spent 4 plus hours one day with a mate wolf pack wars shotguns only killed heaps with that strecker 20g with reflex/slugs and nordin but mainly pump 12

Iāve been hunting for a diamond red deer on Fernando for weeks [Xbox]. None. Lots of diamond puma, mule deer, and axis. Still no diamond red deer or buffalo.

@grave halo Current thinking in the community is that the respawns are totally random. So, more kills equals more respawns equals more chances for a max level. But no one really knows. I can tell you from experience, that once I stopped being so picky and started killing more, I started seeing more diamonds.

@brittle plume 285 hours is a drop in the bucket. I didnāt see a diamond for ages. The diamond spawns are random. So, my best advice is to kill as many animals as possible to get more respawns going. Focus on taking out bigger males but donāt be too picky. Kill them all.

So ok, I have a good friend who reformatted his pc and when he loaded the hunter cotw his game started him back at lvl 1. He put the last saved files he had from a disk back into his game and it does not work. Is there something he is missing or a way to get his game back, it was saved to iCloud as well but it's not loading back from that. What can he do to try and get his game files back, note he was/is lvl 60 with every map unlocked and loaded and had a bit of money as well.

when person A shoots an animal and person B harvests it, does person A get all the money, xp, and weapon score as if they harvested the animal themselves?
in the same example, can person B save the harvest for person A so they can display the animal in their lodge?
can person B "steal" anything by harvesting other people's animals?

I was gonna say, you can move your old save file into a safe keeping folder, start a new file, take the new population files from that one, splice them into your old one, and then put your old file back into your save area.
Then you don't lose any of your other data

[Xbox One] Found a level 5 blacktail. No antlers. Picked up his tracks and should be max weight 95kg. Since we donāt have hotfix for console yet, should I shoot it and hope the score isnāt bugged? Or wait and shoot after hotfix?

after resetting the animal populations (the method I used was to inject population files from a newly created game), my game can no longer read and display date on harvests, I thought it was only the old harvests but even the new ones are all null/null/.0
is it common? does anybody know what might be the cause and if there's a fix?

I'd read a thread on Steam that it no longer works and multiple people said that so I used the recommended "new" method
backup save, create a new game, place the animal pop files into the old one, delete the new game, use the backed up one
everything seems to work just fine, it's just the kill dates
I still have the original saves backed up, should I try to put them in and just delete the animal population files? do I delete just the animal pop files in the main save folder or even the animals pop files in the slots/0/, slots/1/, slots/2/ folders?

I check leaderboards and hunting log every time I open up the game because I've been having issues with Leaderboards being blank like 90% of the time so I would check every time to see if it works

hey has anyone had a problem retrieving an animal ? it's on land but any time i approach i respawn in my tent. ive tried approaching by foot and quad same turn out?

uh, I fixed the issue I had with the map (post a bit above this message)
when I reinstalled the game and used my old savefile, the game overwrote some of the files
I've found that all reserves had a brand new found_icons_x files so I copied those files again from my backed up savefile and replaced the new ones
this restored my map progression and discovered outposts, I hope it won't create more problems down the way but if anybody encounters the same problem, this might be the solution, just remember to back up your save regularly so you have the option

Is there a way to hunt class 2 deer with shotguns? I'm trying to figure it out as I'm currently a shotgun purist (carrying all 20ga ammunition for 0-3 classes and 12ga slugs with boomstick for class 4)
The smallest 20ga slugs are still too strong (even though it's the same class as the animals). They give 40% on Fallow and Blacktail.
20ga buckshot is too weak. When I tested it on a stuck Fallow Deer. A 3m front shot to the heart won't penetrate into the organs. A 3m side shot ended up with one pellet in the lung, the animal then got free and died at 0% quick kill.
12ga buckshot has 56-100% integrity. From my experience, you are either close enough to get 100% quick kill, hit too many pellets and destroy integrity, or you hit from further away and the pellets are not enough to kill the animal with enough quick kill bonus.
16ga buckshot has the same 56-100% integrity as 12ga and faces many of the same problems. There might be a sweet spot for effective range with this ammunition but remember that this is for a dlc exclusive gun.
Please, give us the option to hunt Class 2 deer with shotguns.
Comparing the game to IRL. Would 20ga slugs be too much of an overkill to hunt Blacktail?

Is there a way to get back onto the roof of the lodge at Parque Fernando without the scaffolding? My games quests reset a while ago and it's wanting me to plug in the solar panels however none of the scaffolding exists anymore.
I've tried using the ATV to try to boost myself up but nothing seems to be working.

@solar basin it helps for respawns bur itās mostly just random. I have 2 mule deer herds I periodically cull and have been culling for about 2 months now. Iāve gotten 4 diamond mule deer so far.

in the marked area, there was a specific herd and the questgiver had a voiceline confirming they were the sick animals
I shot one and the rest of the herd ran away from the marked area, the second bison counted even though it was killed outside of the marked area

Right i have fixed my problem and ill share how so others can too. The Source of my problem was a corrupt file causing my game to crash and not save correctly, so after some googling i came across someone with the same problem and a way of fixing git which includes essentially testing every file to see which was the corrupt one and then replacing it with a fresh non-corrupt one. These files can be anything from animal population files to inventory. Unfortunately mine was statistics so i now have no way of seeing how many animals i have harvested etc... but at least i can play the game. I followed the truck tracks and found the poachers' camp. Now I have no new objectives and I can't find anything else around. The mission log still says just Find Rambolo and Follow the poachers' trail

I figured it out couple minutes ago. The voiceline gets played once you arrive the camp but if you, like me, don't physically go along the road and go through the bushes, the game doesn't complete the follow the trail objective.
So I had to go back and trail the truck tracks.

@tacit helm if you have the weapon pack 3 DLC, use the .30-06 to take down black bears. They pay upwards of $1200 for full score on even the low-level ones.
You can usually find them resting near lakes and the river on the central and western side of the map from morning to mid-afternoon.
