go to rathenfeld and go to southwest. find a herd of european bison. shoot them, follow their tracks. they are slower than you alot are in a herd and they give alot of rifle score

@last hemlock teals don't fly around the map like mallards do currently, I think it's a bug because when you spook them they just fly out of the map and only return to their spot when you are out of render range.

If you use elk scent they will come to the spot where you sprayed the scent. You want to move to side from that so they don't smell you. shameless plug I have made a video about scents before if you want to see 🙂

walk around and follow the tracks till you come across a resting or feeding or drinking zone then figure out what time they will be there and set it up to where you can get there a little while earlier then just wait till all the animals get there and pick out which one you want @steep geyser

400 meters is the render limit for Animals @dusk hound As for starter guides and what is still relevant, I'd suggest looking up Flinter on youtube he has some good stuff for beginners on there. Now the only thing that really isn't relevant advice anymore, which you might hear in older videos is the ''go for spine shots'' idea, that used to be the case but is no longer relevant. Use the right caliber/grain on the right animal and go for heart/double-lung shots.

Lungshots are reccomended as usual. As for what you can hunt with it, I usually wouldnt go higher than wild boar personally, and you cant go lower than kudu I believe?

Okay, so, if you already have a 7mm, and can carry it, all .270 is really good for is kudu, WT, warthog and boars

I stacked up 300 of the free .243 ammo and just shoot everything that i can get a decent shot on so far

I managed to get a clean one shot on a fox at 300yds and finished off a previously wo7nded fallow deer in the same spot 5min later

Set up a blind and jumped on top of it and laid prone to get as clean a shot possible

You may want to invest into bow, you can kill absolutely a lot of animals in one place :) I often go to open servers and look for a pretty big herd, then do a little massacre xD

the game seems to not understand sight/bore axis because i started at 50m and got a dead on hit so i thought i should shoot high at 100m but it was also dead on and was dead on all the way to 200m

confused me when i did that

confirmed it when i went for a point blank shot on a target from touching distance and it was dead on instead of slightly low due to the fact the scope is higher than the barrel

@proud mist I think it's a translation thing, in german it's "Ethikbonus", always understood it like in real life, don't use artillery on sparrows, but also don't throw pepples at bisons, tradeoff between most intact carcass, but also least harm to animal

But, I don't have a clue, what's best fitting for American wildlife, especially with ammo types like right now in the game, I don't have a good feeling what's good, because I don't use them irl

I don't know how true it is, it's only my guess, but I noticed that animals, which didn't die quickly, would have lower integrity bonus

lawl, yeah nah, slow kills ingame really doesnt do a thing aside from having an impact on the quick kill bonus, if you shoot multiple times or with a gun thats too big for the animal however the integrity drops :v

And yeah, it's a... same word for two different things sort of deal

i bought the game on sale for $17 which was only the base content and then put $8 on top for the lodge and crosspoint weapon pack

When I'm playing on my solo server i'll be fine and I'll be a little bit laggy but after 15-20 minutes my screen will stop and lag and the sound will bug out and it'll bring me right back to my Xbox home screen. What can I do so that doesn't do that anymore. I've tried unplugging my Xbox but that doesn't work

No, it was patched. If you hit spinecord then it is but it's a lot more hard now. Double lung or heart is the way to go now.

Wouldn't hurt to try. Just remember, some changes take a restart to become effective and if the culprit already removed files you may need to run an integrity check again.

AV can be good if someone careless is using the PC but if you know not to go to naughty sites and don't download questionable stuff, they can be more of a pain then they are worth. They are designed to block bad stuff but in order to be super effective they often block good stuff in the process.

One other thing we can try. Resetting the network adapter.

Click the Search icon (magnifying glass) in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen and type "cmd" into the search bar.
You'll see the Command Prompt app as the best match at the top of the list. Right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Depending on your computer settings, you may be asked to provide an administrator password before you can continue.
A black box with a flashing cursor will open; this is the Command Prompt. Type “netsh winsock reset” and then hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
Wait for the Command Prompt to run through the reset. Once it’s complete, you’ll see the message “Winsock reset completed successfully”.
Restart PC.

The Hunt Club Beta is most likely what is trying to connect. I thought if we could disable it through a setting we could maybe get around it. You can turn it off from within game but.... you can't get to the menu so....

@abstract wind Set up in areas with large numbers of animals and kill LOTS. Basically kill everything. Just hunt. Tree stand DLC can help reduce hunting pressure. Several tents and stands in areas with large numbers of ducks, rabbits, and deer can get you leveled rather quickly.

@harsh fable I haven’t had too much trouble on the mule deer. Find the occasional level 5. Usually in a very unexpected place. One in the southern part of the swamps. One in Lago Bebe. Another I don’t recall location. My problem seems to be axis and red deer. Can’t find a max level anywhere.

From what I've experienced, every animal has a secondary caller, which isn't their own. Bison just ignore everything which is annoying because they're why I got the perk.

What are you guy's opinions on adding varying claw sizes and lengths to the upcoming Grizzly Bears according to their levels? The higher the level the bigger the claws to add some identifying feature to tell the difference between the sizes of them. I think this could be implemented into animals such as the Lions and Pumas also. Let me know what you think! 😃

Animals will smell you before they see or hear you. Keep the wide part of your scent cone, found on your compass, pointed away from the game. If the wind changes, flank around until it's back in your face. Scent eliminator lasts for two in-game hours (forty minutes IRL) and reduces the distance animals will scent you.

Animal hearing is very keen and varies by species and weather conditions. Expore at a walking pace to minimise your noise level, and avoid blundering through bushes and trees until you've unlocked noise-cancelling perks. Even then, do so slowly. When nearing your prey go into a crouch, or go prone, to further quieten yourself while moving. Being stationary is being silent.

Like sound, sight is another keen animal sense to account for. Standing up on a ridgeline makes you visible for hundreds of metres, so crouch or crawl prone to crest hills. Use the bush to conceal you; move slowly through foliage to mask your outline. You'll be harder to spot while in bushes or inside hunting blinds, and a big tree trunk at your back conceals your sillhouette. Animals see movement well, so move slowly or not at all when stalking game.

Thankyou so much !! @clever bear last night I killed a black bear! 3rd kill and I was managing to get vital shots on everything. I will say I'm glad you responded as the wind did cause me some trouble. I'm glad the scent thing lasts so long! However I know it's not 100% effective all the time so wind still needs to be looked at.

I've since learned that scent eliminator is two in-game hours of time, which works out at forty RL minutes. I'll have to edit that info dump.

Aw well that's still a while! :D still great help! It's such a relaxing game as it's so slow paced. Kinda forced to slow down and stop rushing. Something I seldom do irl so it's nice to have to. I had so much fun.

Not got the stomach for hunting irl. But damn is it not interesting playing a simulator and seeing how much effort is involved. I didn't expect to do so well aim wise. Probably all the time I spent on shooter games lol

The game teaches you patience and I like that about it. Lotta games are all about hurrying up, this one needs you to slow down.

Indeed! Like I learnt that it's best to get eyes on. Go prone. Crouch closer. Sit and wait for them to turn to the side and stand still. Aim slowly, when animal isn't moving and you have full side view take breath in, make sure you're over vital organs and close enough to hit the area you want. Then and only then, fire. Reload if it's not already fallen and walking limpish after that shot, hit it in the lower front between the legs or anywhere besides shoulder and hind in the side. Then crouch and go to shoot sight. Find the tracks and follow(crouched of course incase it was just a flesh wound and to not spook it further. Takes longer to catch up but stops you having to keep chasing a running animal ) :D

Made me laugh because I built a hunting structure. I went in. I called a few times. Checked my phone irl. Next thing I know I hear branches moving around me but couldn't see a thing. After a while I realised I had 5 deer just past the tree line infront of me hahahaha. Havnt had the same luck since but was quite amusing

If you think you just winged an animal, wait a little while. If your map gains a purple splotch then the animal's died and you can follow the blood trail. If not, it's likely the animal/herd will return to where you shot it and you can put the wounded beastie down with a follow-up shot.

Calls have an effective radius. Check in your inventory for that range; anything outside won't be affected when you call. Additionally, some animals are more receptive to calls than others (I find boar to be especially blasé about calls). Roe and Fallow deer are easy to lure in.

It's worth unlocking outposts to begin with. This is easiest if you have the ATV, since you can drive all over unlocking outposts and thus fast-travel. This often brings you across animal tracks and sometimes need zones.

Be mindful of the noise you make. Animals will spook and run off long before you see them if you're running around full-speed. Slow to a walk, take your time. If you hear a call, stop moving and, as Jimmy said, use your caller to try luring them.

If you see need zones, be sure to activate them. It encourages spawns of the specific animal to keep coming back to that area.

As you play more you'll discover more need zones which help, but as a beginner you can't go wrong with just wandering around, you'll be bound to find something

You may have better luck 12-15 when they're drinking, they should be a bit easier to see since they'll be near water

For those area specific ones though, sometimes the only thing you can do is just get lucky while a herd is passing through the area

@proud mist to my experience, yes. Do i have the evidence, no. I know 45-70 is an underpowered round but i notice it kills most bigger animals very quickly with the hollow points if you hit vitals, you have to hit vitals to do any damage though. I'd say try it out i haven't had any bad experience with it yet

@soft gulch Reindeer drink at dawn, so from 5-9AM in game time. The higher level males will stand quite far back in bushes and reeds to drink, but are rarely found solitary (so if you see a herd of trivials, call them all in and see what comes running from the back)
My hotspots are:

the far southeast corner - the little lake JUST above the outpost, as well as the larger lake to the northwest of it
the very large lake (and the two below it) in the centre-right of the map
the three little lakes towards the right side of the gigantic crater (on the left side of the map).

All of these places have a fair number of reindeer at dawn, are easy to get to and have very good spots from which to call and ambush.

@cyan axle only number 3 I'm not exactly sure on location. But I've been hitting every single body of water both visible and "ice" harvesting a literal 100s of reindeer and have only seen one level 5 that only scored about 927 :(

Holy moly, that is rotten luck. Two of my diamonds have been at the third spot, no joke, so I'll elaborate on it:
It has an outpost in the middle, there is a lake to the north, a lake to the east, and a lake to the south (as well as a couple of other smaller ones around it) but the outpost is to the right side of the gigantic crater. The crater is the massive white area in the southwest quadrant of the map

"Shoot him twice" there's why you have no integrity. Try a smaller rifle to the 7mm and only hit them once.

Hitting them in the skull is not a fast kill, nor is hitting just the vertebrae. You must hit something vital like brain or spinal cord, or lungs/heart etc to down them quickly.
