So for anyone who's curious about Nvidia Driver Hangs (with possible infinite loop errors). My setup is Win7, Skylake i7-6700k
at 4.2 Ghz when boosted, and 16 GB 3200mhz DDR4. 980Ti FTW (not overclocked) from EVGA with their ACX cooler. I have a Dell 1400p 144mhz GSync monitor running at 1080p and a second Asus 1080p 60 hz screen. This is a system that can run any number of torture tests simultaneously while running game benchmarks for over 24 hours with no errors or issues. I run the game on ultra, minus motion blur with well over 60 fps the majority of the time. Every other game without well known issues works flawlessly.
I first noticed this when I forced the issue with the Borderless Gaming software, before I knew about the launch option. But my hope that I could maintain borderless window drove me to full blown denial. You can find other instances of this error in Mad Max, and Just Cause which also use the Avalanche Engine. That's not to say it's their fault, it could just as easily be Nvidia's fault. But is very unlikely that the problem is on the user end considering how prolific this crash seems to be. And by prolific I mean documented not only in this game, but other games using this engine.
If you have a setup remotely similar to mine are are getting this crash window or full blown system hangs requiring a power cycle after loading into your game and walking around, first try running in fullscreen mode without steam overlay enabled before you try any other of the janky shit you see on the internet. The goal is a stable game, not one that only crashes every so often. When I did that I played on and off for close to 12 hours without issue. Today I enabled the /borderless command and it caused a full system hang minutes after loading in. I reverted to fullscreen mode have enabled steam overlay and so far have not crashed after about an hour or two of play.
