One strategy I used to complete the game faster was to unequip all of the items on the last character I played and re-equip them on the next character, with slight variation depending on the class.
I think there's a missed opportunity here for further replayability. I was able to beat the 3rd stage in 18 hours as a self proclaimed terrible gamer.
I'm curious how it would feel to have items to be bound to the character that you equip them on. That way it feels like you're leveling up each character individually.
This could apply to the upgrade shop as well. Each time I switch character I would refund all and only use the relevant stats for that class.
My prediction is that the progression might feel massively slower, so to aid in this, there's a couple options:

Unlock more slots in the well to retrieve more items per playthrough.
