Are you able to have more than the 12 or 13 pins on a Arduino nano? I’m not sure what The A pins are
Analog, I.e can run something like a potentiometer.

You could have more if you get yourself some 595 chips, it’s a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it the possibilities are endless

OH uses PCBs with LEDs. You could check out The Warthog project on YouTube. Pretty sure he has a video showing how he taped LEDs to the backside of the panels.
